Someone I knew didn’t like the fact that highlighters were used for the nacelles when they kit-bashed it. I think they said it made it look cheap.🤷‍♂️

The 4-nacelle design seems like something you'd want just for the redundancy to put on long-range explorers that are going to have to spend a lot of time outside Federation space and away from Federation resources. You would want a ship resilient enough to function with a loss of one or more nacelles. In addition, the Cheyenne-class seems to be almost ideally designed as a separatable ship, giving both sections the ability to have warp. Again, something that is ideal for a long-range explorer.

Always thought the boxy nacelles were an odd design choice but definitely a personal favourite from the Trek kitbashes. I remember in being fanon for a while in some places on the net that the Cheyenne was the testbed for the saucer separation systems that would later go into the Galaxy, which is an odd thing to dedicate an entire class to

My approach has always been to create a narrative that makes the most logical sense... And since we never really see them anywhere in Trek, not really even being mentioned, it's the only outcome I could come up with that I thought made some sense!

Not only does it have four nacelles, those nacelles leave behind neon yellow streaks when they go to warp. ;) (For those too young, they made the nacelles out of some highlighter pens that were popular in the 80s. :) )

Hello Triangulum. I have always been a fan of the quad designs. Mostly due to the fact that anything affecting a warp nacelle while 'in flight' could be seen to and repaired while the ship ran on it's other three nacelles. Having four nacelles also meant that losing two in battle did not affect the ship too harshly, in that it still had two to establish a balanced warp field for 'high' speed warp. Another factor to a quad design was Emergency Power. A good engineer could re-route warp plasma back through the warp core for an additional 'boost' of power, without needing to increase the matter-antimatter feeds. Even though such an emergency boost put a strain on the ship's Di-lithium crystals, it was only for short periods of time, and such stresses were well within tolerances. Yet another factor to having four nacelles was the 'ramp' up to full operational speed. With four nacelles sharing the load, none would have to be stressed to their maximum tolerances, and thus such 'rabbit' runs up to high warp speeds were safer and faster than any other class' nacelles could manage, without being truly massive in size. Add to all the above the fact that a four nacelle system adds redundancy overall to a ships warp capability, and you have a ship that can survive combat and still maintain high warp speed at need, and be more maneuverable, and less likely to break down overall. The only 'detraction' for quad nacelle designs is that with four, maintenance would be an 'ongoing' thing, and require a well trained engineering staff. I know that Star Trek is not all about combat, but such designs should take their place as the needed, and often ignored, potential to keep enemies of the Federation at bay while Fleet gathered the resources to deal with any external threat. just my thoughts, agree or not. spoken, Frank-ly

I like the 4 nacelle design. I think on the right ships they fit well. The Constellation class has been one of my favorites since TNG and I like this as well it's a good looking ship, you know with all the different ships and crews there is so many stories that could be told from any era. DS9, Voyager and even though I'm not a huge fan of Discovery they show a different world that doesn't revolve around Kirk or Picard or the Enterprise. I would love to see them just pick a random ship from any time frame and follow that crews adventures and I know there's Prodigy and Lower Decks but that's animation and geared towards kids. Great video again today I look forward to these! Keep up the great work and already ready for the next one.

My theory is that 4 nacelle designs allow for more complex and finely tuned warp field geometries. This enhances the way the warp field interacts with space-time and sub-space in a manner analogous to reducing drag or enhancing traction for a ground vehicle. It makes the drive more efficient. That said, the more complex field geometries require equally enhanced complexity in control systems, and the added engine components create added opportunities for hardware failure. This increases maintenance costs as well as production costs, which is why the designs are not as common as 2 nacelle designs. I find it note worthy that Dominion capital ships also feature 4 nacelles by having a pair of smaller nacelles complement their primary drive, as did an early Nebula class prototype. It may be that this mixed design of nacelle types provides most of the benefit of the more symmetrical 4 nacelle configurations of the Constellation and Cheyenne classes, but are less resource intensive to build and operate.

It's a decent design; basically Constellation ver.2.0 in my opinion. The four-nacelle bit always struck me as overkill in terms of practicality, but aesthetically, it's not bad.

My personal head canon will always be, one nacelle is required for warp. Two are installed standard for redundancy. 3 and 4 nacelle designs are for ships that are expected to be in battle, since nacelles are often targeted to disable.

I have one question. You left us with the question of which 4 nacelle design do we like best. But my choice isn't on the list. The Prometheus Class clearly boasts 4 nacelles. I realize it can split into 3 separate ships...but as a whole it flies with all 4. And the fact of it having Multi Vector Assault Mode makes it the most versatile of the 4 nacelle designs. I'm curious as to why you didn't add it to the list. I thought it deserved mentioning. Thanks.

Well A) It's actually a 6 Nacelle Design, not 4... Just because you cant see the other 2 Nacelles, doesnt mean they dont exist. IE Just because you cant see a submarines Nuclear Torpedoes, doesnt mean it's not a Nuclear Sub! B) I chose not to, because these polls arent just chosen as random nonsense, but rather to help steer the channel to certain ends...

Just so everyone knows...the Prometheus does NOT have 6 warp nacelles...it has 5. I am willing to admit when I am wrong. The command module in MVAM has one small warp nacelle that comes up out of the top of the command section. I will admit that even though it is hidden and rarely used...it does technically have it and therefore I yield. Yet...someone told me it has 6...which is simply untrue. Proving we are all human...but we can still enjoy Trek together.

Im sorry you are incorrect, it has 2 small Nacelles, one comes out of the top and one out of the bottom of the Top Section when spit apart... That equals 6! Just so everyone gets the correct answer!
