1150GS Part 14

With the forks out it is the perfect opportunity to fully service them and respray after 18 years on the bike. This is another first for me as I normally send them to specialist fork engineers. Daunting at first but actually not very difficult. There are no springs to knock your eye out and I am not in a rush. Motorworks of course supply every part including the special seal puller which is essential. You could do it I am sure!

Great video Norm, I would recommend supporting the inner race with a suitable deep socket when driving the central bolt back into the headstock bearing which removes any force being transferred to the surfaces of the races when you drive it in. Thanks for all your efforts, watching the lot, Nick

Yes you are so right…..I searched everywhere and kept watching the video where it dropped, but just could not find it 😱. Then looking through to the other side of the mudguard by chance it spotted it 🥳

Hey Norman. On my 18 RT I’ve noticed very random “wetness” around the right fork seal. And even rarer on the left seal. However, it so intermittent, I wonder if it’s just the odd piece of dirt that causes it. Either way I ordered a set of seals. Your video has made it very easy to change them out. Never swapped out fork seals before. No rocket science, for you have done the science experiment for us lol

I used POR-15 on my 1150GS lower fork legs. It is a marine paint and very hard. Resist the salt and most of the stone chips and lasted at least 10 years before I respayed them again

Your choice of colour for the forks was inspired and looks great . The GS is coming along really well,and I think when it's all done Motorworks could use your work as some sort of promotion for their company .Seeing the fork oil condition I wonder if my GS is similar after eight years !
