That little hole in the cap assembly gave me a fright a few years ago. On a bike trip the bike was standing in the rain all night and next morning rode about a mile to fill up as tank was empty, when I opened cap all the water that couldn't drain poured into the tank. Now I clean it at least once a week.

A job well done Norm ,as it was a bit fiddly at times . You mentioned the service problem ahead ,so now I'm really worried as to what confronted you . I have no doubt though ,that you will overcome it with endless vigour !

Hello Norman; you can also use a repair kit for oxy-acetylene hoses,they use the same style of crimping tool and clips to retain hoses,although you may have to confirm diameter of hoses.

Morning Norman, just catching up on your latest project, hopefully not as traumatic as the R1200 dropped valve saga. Incidentally, you can get O rings and bearing etc from Erik's Engineering at a fraction of the cost. ( I use the one in Preston but there's probably other branches ). Keep up the good work, perfect viewing with a brew on a freezing morning like today 👌 Roj ( Preston )

I have tried everything to find out for you. Even went onto Westfield Fasteners www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2_Nut_HexFlgSerr_M.html I bought them from this company but no record of the size. I have sold the bike and gave the new owner the Haynes manual so no reference!! Sure they were 6mm but you can only know positively when you remove the old ones. Sorry I cannot be certain.😥

Unbelievable the price of BMW parts isn't it Norm. My RT is about to run out of its BMW warranty and I've just had the extension price come through. Just a tad under £400 for the year, but tbh if anything goes on it, £400 will only be a fraction of the cost. I do believe I'll be renewing it, or changing the bike to get the 2 year warranty again. That tank looks lovely, will set it off when it's all badged up. Are you having decals or stripes at all? And I hope that wasn't a hint at a seized in spark plug, I've had that before.

Ha ha Tojjer you are on the right track….scheduled 8am next Monday. I have the normal GS transfers to put back on and the badges that I carefully removed from the tank🤗

Hi Peter, yes it is the correct one, I compared it to the one I took off. Will soon find out, just having a coffee before pouring in petrol and sloshing it about🙀
