Whether you are felling trees for firewood, sawmill logs or just thinning the bush in a dense forest there maybe nowhere for the trees to fall. I show a method where I use a chainsaw, some rope and a Kubota compact tractor to get the the trees down to the ground.

Spending time outdoors doing projects with various machines and tools - anything from cutting trees, firewood, clearing brush, milling wood, plowing snow, reviewing, repairing & fabricating equipment. Doing landscaping and maintenance on my forested property using my Kubota tractor.
And its not all work!! Gotta take time to play - after turning my pond into a skating rink, and a whole bunch more of outdoor activities.

That's always a challenging job, Paul! I could not agree with you more about the enjoyment of just sitting and listening to the sounds of the forest.

Good morning Paul. ☕️☕️ We very much think alike. I normally make my notch so that the top portion of the cut out is flat and level with my back cut. My reason for that is to take material from the stump and not the firewood. In trees that I can’t fall or perhaps a leaner, I use that method so that I don’t have a blunt end to dig into the ground. Don’t know if my methods are right or wrong but they have served me well for a lot of years. Ideally, I would love to have either a Wallenstein or a Farmi winch. Only one thing stopping me Paul… well maybe two!

Good afternoon Gary. Thanks for sharing your method. There are many ways, some similar and some very different. The most important things are that they work and that they keep you safe. With the angle of the face-cut and the shallow back-cut I did, it provided a nice angle for the tree to glide instead of dig into the ground. Personally I wouldn't buy anything Wallenstein, not because they are not a good product, they are, I just think that all of their equipment is way overpriced. I like Farmi and several others. Being old school I am more familiar with Skidders/Timberjacks than the PTO mount logging winches. Have a fantastic weekend Gary.

Well done Paul 👍 when we had more trees at our old property, I pulled lots of trees out that way. Very safe 😁👍

Thank you kindly Ben. It is a method that I have found to work well. Not being near the tree as it comes down most certainly makes it much safer. Have a fantastic weekend!

Good morning Paul☕️, some nice tips. We have a similar situation with some densely packed trees that I need to thin out at some point. I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend, Ben 👍

Good afternoon Ben. Thank You. I have some other areas where I have to de-limb the trees to get in just to cut them. It's crazy how tight they grow next to each other. You too have a great weekend!

Thank you Brian. I gather that most of us with property have some densely populated areas. I use to thin all areas on a regular basis but when you neglect a zone it doesn't take long to overpopulate in an unhealthy way. Have a awesome weekend!

How's she goin'? Nice job Paul. I like that you explained what and why you did what you did. It worked out great eh! In heavily treed areas I like to do this sport of technique too, where I tip the tree towards the wooded area and pull the stump toward to cleared area!! Thanks for posting and take care!!

Thanks and it's going good Mike. I work a lot in dense bush and this method works well for me. The tough part is when I have to get the stump out afterwards. Have a good one and take care as well!

Morning Paul! That is a beautiful little grove of cedars! I was expecting the tree to just jam in the ground and refusing to be pulled but that went very smoothly! Couldn't quite see it but what model Husky was it? It looked kid size in your hands haha! Cheers, Alex

Good afternoon and thanks Alex. There are a lot of cedars. With the angle of the face-cut and the shallow back-cut it provides a nice angle for the tree to glide instead of dig into the ground. It was one of the smaller non-pro saws that I have. I am really impressed with it. It was a Husqvarna 435 x-torq, 16" bar. Lol, it is small. A big saw and long bar don't work well in very dense areas. Have a great week-end.
