I bought two cases of these at an estate sale a dozen years back, along with the majority of both Star Trek & Star Wars inventory that was up for sale. If I remember correctly, I spent around $400.00 for all of the sci-fi kits & miscellaneous donor parts. I still have the better part of both cases, both regular & glow-in-the-dark versions as I only used them in kitbashes. The packing slips inside have a suggested msrp of $2.75, so I believe that these are either first or second releases. Granted, I didn't know that Matt Jeffries was the kit's designer, but now knowing that, I'm going to see if I can incorporate some of the "information" that you provided in your mythical 'backstory' & see what I can produce while making some videos that I can put up here on YT, (they'll be the first videos that I've ever uploaded here). It may be a few months before the first one is uploaded as I'm still getting the hang of the 3-D printer that I recently bought for making the parts of the 1:350 scale Constellation Class U.S.S. Stargazer project that I've undertaken. As much as I love restoring old motorcycles, I've always been a fan of modeling Star Trek, it shows by my handle on both eBay and one of my screennames on AOL, (both are named from one of the main shipyards in Star Trek), so it only seems fitting that I might begin turning out detail parts in various scales for the kits for both my enjoyment & others as well.

Now that is one awesome backstory, man. Honestly, I can see the twins being laughed at for essentially taking the entire stock of a starship scrapyard and turning to the fresh-faced engineering graduates designers and saying, "Hey, ya want a challenge?!" and the designers would jump at the chance, turning them into long term, very happy, employees who cut their teeth on making the cutting edge. Starfleet would be completely taken off guard, as they've always been too far up their own problems, to notice a 'Tiny' little company, until the moment the ships warped in... And Starfleet promptly had to change their shortclothes.

I like the idea of there being different ship manufacturers and shipwrights in the federation. While I understand a need for standardization, I think having these huge homogenized fleets can impact the sense of diversity the federation is supposed to have. Hello Triangulum. As a kid, I bought and built both the Leif Ericson and the 'glow in the dark' UFO ships. I never considered them part of Star Trek however. I could see no way for the ship to have 'nacelles', and thus didn't consider it to have 'warp' drive. And even though designed by a famous Trek ship designer and builder, I still did not consider the ships to be 'canon' for Trek... unless it was for a intra-system ship that never left it's solar system, and was primarily a ship that patrolled a planetary system. Just my thoughts, and memories, spoken Frank-ly
@TriAngulumAudioStudios2 жыл бұрын
Well not everyone did of course, but as I said in the intro, many in fandom could see it, and so I crafted a story surrounding that ;) Just my thoughts, and memories, spoken TAS-ly ;)
@franksmedley86192 жыл бұрын
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I did view the entire video. Your idea of an 'open' nacelle covered by the side 'ducts' is a good one. I never considered an 'open' nacelle design. This alone would solve my 'issues' with the lack of 'nacelles' on the craft, and thus lack of warp drive for the ship itself. The SSC must have built hundreds of these ships, or perhaps a thousand or so. They would have needed the capacity to carry the amount of tonnage of cargo to keep the Federation up and running. I am not sure of your projections as to upgrading the 4-man Transporter up to 16 persons, but that's your head canon, and not mine. Such an upgrade would make the Transporter the most expensive item in the ship, and the most maintenance intensive as well, since it has to be 'rated' for both cargo and living beings. I could easily see doubling the 'live cargo' ability, while up-rating the standard cargo to such an extent. This, overall would be less expensive and easier to maintain. As I understand things, a Transporter can shift as many things as it has 'pads' for... so 8 pads isn't excessive. But, those same 8 pads could be 'multi-plexed' to shift large 'non-living' cargo. In effect, overlapping their Transporter fields and merging the 'data' to Transport safely. This would allow the ship to Transport large Container style cargo containers without undue stress and wear on the Transporter system.
@franksmedley86192 жыл бұрын
Given the placement of the 'shuttle bay', the Transporter would probably be located between it and the primary cargo area that extends to the aft bulkhead between the Impulse exhausts. Doing it this way does reduce overall cargo space a tiny bit, but is more than made up by the ability to Transport full sized Cargo Containers that would fit onto Long Haulter type ground transports (the future versions of Semi-Trucks and trailers). This means that the 'multi-plexed Transporter can Transport up and down large Containers that would fit on such vehicles, and making moving Cargo more efficient. And to assist this, the Shuttle would be able to land on a planet and use it's own sensors to more accurately define a Transporter site on planet, so there would be literally NO chance of dropping cargo once the Transporter effect ceased. An example would be a Colony ordered and has delivered, a rather large and bulky piece of delicate equipment that cannot be hauled by the Shuttle. The ship Transports it down to the surface using the enhanced sensor data available by the Shuttle's presence at the Transport site. Just some thoughts, Frank-ly speaking.

Just about anyone who built AMT/ERTL Star Trek Models knows this ship. The first gen box art I was too young for me. Later when they changed the art to what we've all seen to make it line up with the other kits. I always thought it strange it was never seen in the show. Knowing what you mentioned it's now obvious. As to what you have made, this ties in nicely with how to get around the questions many would have. I do like the Bussard collection detail as to older cores. The look wouldn't come back for at least another century with the defiant classes body attached units. Now all I want to do is make this model again and do that paint and detail markings to it. One detail you could add though is to talk about the shield generators. Something along the lines that because of the older materials used for the ship. The Shield Generators when activated would interact with the hull of the ship giving it a green glow. That would have put this over the top. Thanks.

if I recall correctly, NCC comes from Roddenberry trying to kind of nudge the show towards having a post-Cold War feel. NCC was drawn from CCCP, the old designation for the Union of Soviet Socialist States (aka, Russia) But I like my explanations for the different registry prefixes. Maybe we should bug the Star Trek producers into making it canon :D

I liked this story, how do you create your narrative, will you make a episode showing us how you create a episode and a lovely narrative?

Perhaps one day, as Ive thought about doing that as well... But it'd be a very boring video :P

No I don’t think it would be boring I would imagine loads of people would love to know but I can’t speak for these peeps, just myself. I Love your stories they feel like cannon to me. Please keep it up. From a Fan.

This design would be better suited as a telle4ite or a Rgilian design. I would like to see more ships from different federation. Members. I would like to see a video about th Klingon bird of prey as seen in Enterprise as well as Vulcan ships.

Amazing video as usual!but can I ask if we can see a video like this but on a cardassian ship design?as you have done Starfleet,romulan and Klingon designs but not rlly a cardassian design !

You most definitely will! Ive skinned a few Cardy Ships for Space Engine and an upcoming update, for that very reason

A puzzle this one. It is baffling indeed. If in the Star Trek universe. It is confusing. And boggling.
