One can very easily find the age of old indians by asking what they were doing and how old they were when the brits left. If he were really 119, he would in his late 40s or even early 50s when the brits left. That's impossible. Or ask about his eldest children and their age. Indians in those days had their first child in their mid teens to early 20s at the most.

Whether or not he is 119 or 78, it is still amazing and a testament that "the fountain of youth" is exercise. Running can really beat your body up and if training is not judicious can be injury prone--many older runners eventually go on to cycling and swimming which is less impact due to bad knees, hips etc. I would have liked if the film explored his running roots and his training through the decades. As for the NYT article, why didn't they run a DNA test for age? They do it for rocks and fossil forensics? I ran NYC marathon at 44 and am still bragging about it but have gone on to 20 years of yoga and now at 62 training hand balancing and Aerial hoop. No nursing home for me--when I die I want to be spinning upside down like this Indian man running on...

I have no doubt. In my 20s I could not get tired from running. I would run two hours, then kyak for 2, then exercise for one hour, just for fun. Nearly 60 now, and my resting heart rate I got down to 37 bpm, while waiting for a total hip replacement - which I finally received four weeks ago. Physio cannot believe I can already run. I am looking forward to breaking some records now and people talk a lot about food, sleep, herbs, and all that - but the main thing is discipline, conviction and belief. The Hindu nationalist govt is in a full propaganda mode to promote Hindu religion the world over. India is now run by an right wing Hindu organisation called RSS. Modi is their member - just a face. Plans For Mega London Show, Say Reports The next big event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) may see its chief Mohan Bhagwat share the stage with Leonardo DiCaprio. Reports suggest the Oscar-winning actor may be one of the star attractions at a rare public event planned by the RSS next month to mark the 50th anniversary of its foreign wing Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh. The RSS has not officially confirmed it. Its spokesperson MG Vaidya said he is "not aware of any celebrities attending." Reports say DiCaprio, 41, may be asked to share his thoughts on being a vegan and on cow protection. www.ndtv.com/india-news/leonardo-dicaprio-at-rss-event-plans-for-mega-london-show-say-sources-1422650

I love close-mindedness of doctors; don't they know that everything in nature follows bell-curve? Out of so many people that are alive, and so many people who have been alive in the past, is it impossible that there is one who is 119 and can run a marathon? Birth dates have only been recorded for a few millenia for a few kings and queens in a small part of the world - and only for a few decades for ordinary people. They are still not recorded in large parts of the world at all. Meanwhile, there has been many tens of thousands of years of unrecorded human history before that. Who are these doctors to say that it is impossible? Maybe the oldest runner died in 50000 BC at the age of 430? We will never know.
@user-sp6jj3lh2o3 жыл бұрын
- Everything in nature is a normal distribution. No. - Birth dates recorded and "oldest runner" We can know the aprox. age of death of a body even if it is thousands of years old... life expectancy has increased a lot just by looking at the last 200 years. Africa's life expectancy almost doubled in one century. This happened bc of higyene and healthcare advancements, it was't casual. Before, there weren't means of elongating life as there are today, and pretty much all world population was miserably poor. There is no point in being "open-minded" if you don't know about the topic, being open-minded doesn't necesarily imply ignoring what knowledge suggest today but being open to change it. It's true however that it might happen, and that there is a vast part of the world where this measures are not extended so it might have happened.
@obsidiansea2 жыл бұрын
I agree and the lack of record-keeping regarding his age kind of lends credibility to his claim that he is 119, as we can assume record-keeping improved as time went on. I don't know much about record-keeping in India, and it might be worse in rural areas, but you would think it would be more likely that the records for those in their late 70s would be much better than those born in 1897. Plus, he had to have known how old he was at certain points in history. They should ask him about national or world events that he can match to certain stages in his life if they want to verify his age. I also think that it's not such a coincidence that he's 119 and running marathons. Staying active helped him live longer.
