Let’s answer a bunch of comments in one post. #1) The hydrant was accessible w/o breaking the windows. If you look at the video this hydrant had only two outlets. The “steamer” (large) outlet and the smaller outlet. The large outlet was canted at a 45 degree angle facing towards the vehicle as opposed to where the usually face the street. Although the hydrant appeared to have enough room to access from the street, the needed outlet was not. Through or under the car was the only way to access the required outlet. #2) Why didn’t they use the side inlet (also called a steamer). See answer to #1, the way the hydrant connection was angled it was facing the vehicle and would not have changed anything. Next NYC does not pay the cost of placing a gated manifold on those connections which are direct right into the pump, so the driver, chaufer, engineer, has no control over the intake. Also they usually are a larger size than the large diameter hose that is connected to the front intake. #3) Why didn’t they just use a longer or additional hose? Most NYC engines only have that one length of large diameter hose to connect to the hydrant. Also using a longer length of hose would have run into the same problem of the outlet facing towards the vehicle which running the hose around the back of the vehicle would have kinked it against the side of the vehicle. What I would have done is broken one window, unlocked the doors, opened them and run it across the seats. It would have lessened the kinks which severely hampered water flow. That the driver/chauffer/engineer did do wrong was he twisted the hose as he was attaching the coupling to the hydrant as opposed to letting the swivel of the coupling do the turning which caused the hose to twist and kink.

He wasn't directly in front of the hydrant, as you can see where his rear bumper is with respect to the bollards protecting the hydrant. There was direct access to it, the FF's _chose_ to not use it, because switching from the bumper intake to the available side intake (a process that would have taken less time!) was too inconvenient, or something.
@k_sr202 ай бұрын
@@xheralt That’s not going to work… that shorty needs room. There’s no way in shit they’re getting an S or J off of the side intake; it would be a super tight kink. If this is a decent sized fire, no level headed FF is risking botching that supply, bc once it’s done that’s quite the situation to un fuck. What a power trip this guy is on. There was NO reason to break the windows on the Honda. What did it get them? A 5' supply line that was bent to an unrealistic angle. It would have been easier and better if they ran around the front of the Honda or stopped a few feet short of where they stopped and they still would have had enough 5" bumper line to meet their water supply needs. While I agree that parking in front of ar near a hydrant is illegal and wrong as well as plain old stupid, there was no need to smash these windows.For all tghe time he wasted he could have opened the door, inserted hius fat ass into the car and opened door lock without acting like he has to destroy somebody elses property just because he could do it and get away with it.

They only did this because the chauffer was so damn inexperienced (and/or lazy), he didn't know how (or care) to switch from the preconnected bumper intake to the side intake that had a clear path to the hydrant (maybe need to curl the hose in a broad sweep loop). I hope the car owner fights this, but after listening to Louis Rossman's videos, I know how hopeless that can be.

Sue with what money😂 driver owes 12k in parking tickets. Furthermore, a law suit would only end with reimbursement for the broken windows. Hard to argue “emotional damage” on this one. The added fact of illegal parking would make this a hard fight to win. In New York, you can sue for economic damages after an accident. These provide accident victims with compensation for all of their direct, out-of-pocket losses. Examples of verifiable and calculable losses you could recover include: Medical bills: Any medical expenses you have because of the accident, including any future medical costs you may incur Lost wages: Covers the wages or salary you miss out on when you can’t work because of your injuries Lost or diminished earning capacity: To compensate you for any future loss of income because of your injuries Property damage: Covers any of your personal property that was broken or otherwise damaged in the accident Rehabilitation: Can be included if you need any physical, occupational, speech, or other types of rehabilitation Assistive services: If you need to hire help because you can no longer care for yourself after the accident Other costs: You can request compensation for any out-of-pocket money you have to spend because of the accident

@liamcragin4 ай бұрын
@@marcinwicinski7137 how do you know this? Are you a firefighter yourself or otherwise an expert?
@marcinwicinski71374 ай бұрын
@@liamcragin This is quite a broad subject. And it is based on several factors. I believe that certain valid conclusions can be reached by mere observation and comparison with others. For example: you don't have to be a driver to come to the conclusion that a driver is not good at driving a car, right? You just need to see how he does it and compare him with others. You don't have to be a baker to know that bread is burnt, etc... So if we're talking about FDNY. Specifically, I see very late start times for extinguishing fires (applying water) and eliminating them, long-term unrestricted external burnings from windows through the facade of buildings to up, a lot of unnecessary activities (broken windows, ladders placed), high accident rates among firefighters, and large amounts of water administered. Water often without reaching the sources of the fire, i.e. wasting it and actually flooding the facility and its surroundings. Of course, the buildings in the US are slightly different than in Europe, where I live, but overall, I believe that Western European fire brigades would be able to extinguish fires in New York faster and safer. As for me - I was a firefighter for 3 years, but it was a very modest experience: about 50 extinguished fires, mostly grass, only a few in buildings, and in a very poorly functioning fire dept of a small town. I live in Poland, almost everything here is bad functioning.
