I can explain (at least partially) the Great Muncher Oddities! Munchers aren’t “real” enemies, at least not in the same way that Nipper Plants or Piranha Plants are. Instead, they’re counted as, functionally, blocks that hurt you instead. I’m certain that their interaction with P-Switches is an intentional behavior, but I’m pretty sure them turning to Empty Blocks is just an oversight. I assume they’re blocks because of how the NES works: they appear in batches normally, and so many enemies at once on screen would make the game lag quite a bit. By having Munchers be animated blocks instead, it keeps the game from lagging while still having them function widely the same.

Munchers belong in the same Mario 3 enemy camp as Jelectros: enemies that function more like blocks.

In Super Mario World, a P-Switch also turns Koopa Troopas into coins and not just any coins: bonus coins in similar manner to how munchers does in SMB3. I know about this when I reach Vanilla Secret 2 in SMW.

In many playthroughs, I'd encountered the white mushroom house a handful of times, but I never knew what summoned it. I really just thought it was entirely random!

With these fискеd up rules like the "third timer digit must be even and your coin count must be equal 66 and your middle finger nail must be at least 3 millimetrers long when you playing the level and this all must happen in the growing moon" and them being not listed, it's not surprising you thought it was entirely random, so did anyone)

Neither do we cause usually you don't get the Tanooki Suit until World 4 or later so the idea of using it on a lava lotus never came to mine. The level in which lava lotus exist are mostly in World 3, though there might be some in later worlds but not as often.

The Super Mario Bros. 3 developers (Miyamoto and his crew at Nintendo) also had plans to make underwater levels where Jelectros would turn to silver coins once a P-switch was activated. They abandoned the idea when they found out that touching the silver coins underwater either downgraded Mario or made him lose a life...

I played the crap out of this game when I was a kid, so I knew about the white mushroom house, though I reasoned that you had to pick every coin on the level, no idea it was just a set number. I honestly can't remember if I ever figured how to trigger the white coin ship, but I probably didn't, since I never paid attention to the score.

Also the anchor helps a lot in World 5, in that world there's a glitch where sometimes the airship will get stuck in the mid section of the map where you can't reach it either from land or sky section. Using the anchor will temporarily stop the airship from running away, I say temporary cause they will run away again if you're a loser and kept losing against them many times.

The Hammer Bros suit has a slide animation, but it can only be seen in one specific area. You have to be already sliding down an incline when you touch the power up. All other times, pressing down while in the suit causes Mario to go into the defensive position.

The unused statue sprite going down the pipe is akin to the unused 'sliding sprite' of the hammer bros suit. If you're sliding when you get the suit, you will see that rare sprite. This can be seen in only one world in the game.

There 2 pretty nice secrets on World 5 not so many people know about them. The first is the Super Fire Flower. The second one is to let the hammer bros to run in the second part of the map, until he reaches the dot on the upper right part, so once you defeat him you get a 1-up and an additional power up ; )

Almost every world had shortcuts, if you beat all the fortresses the gate that blocks the shortcut paths will open allowing you to skip sections of the map.

Probably because it is really tempting to spend the hammers elsewhere. In World 2, you can break a rock to get a frog suit and a warp whistle. In World 3, breaking a rock will lead to three Toad houses and two spade houses. In World 4, breaking the rock next to the pipe leads to a Toad house with a tanuki suit.

Those different color 1up mushrooms, fireballs, and such are the reason why I love the original 8-Bit version over the All-Stars and Advance ones. Also the small Mario/crouching trick with Bowser only works in the international version, in the Japanese version he could totally crushed small Mario without mercy. Also at 5:25 - that's level 6-9, not 6-2, 6-2 is an auto scroll level.

When you complete the game once, you unlock 28 P-wings when you start a new one. When I was young, beating the game twice gave me 28 hammer suits. I tried to unlock the 28 hammer suits with emulator and official nintendo virtual consoles but it never worked again.

@@smd89xx But only temporary, it move again after several turns if the player kept losing. Same thing with the music box, it will temporarily put the Hammer bros., boomerang bros., fire bros., sledge bros., and piranha plant guard to sleep but they will wake back up after several turns.

When you die on the airship, it will move to a new location. If you have unbeaten levels in that world, the ship will position itself on a spot on the other side of it. The anchor prevents the airship from moving. This is particularly useful in World 5(?) where the airship can glitch and land on an unreachable space.

These are all things that most Mario 3 players knew. Use the statue on a kuribo shoe to get a gray tanooki. Also, 宝 comes from 宝くじ (takarakuji / lottery). 宝 means fortune (in the form of treasure). 宝物 (takaramono) means treasure.
