Melissa, thank you for this channel, I love it, but one correction...the white film on blueberries and grapes is not the pesticide. This is a completely natural coating produced by the fruit itself called "bloom". It helps protect the fruit from pests and moisture loss. You will see bloom on organic fruit too. And I cannot bring myself to eat eggplant. 🤢

Hi Melissa, about 4 years ago I stumbled onto your videos. I can say this with an open heart. Your videos changed my life. Everytime I clean my kitchen I do the S way of cleaning counter tops as well as the eye level testing. Everyday I think of what you said about that. I stay in South Africa and have told so many ladies about you. You changed my life How to clean MY space. Thank you so much for your tips. I watch your videos over and over. One of these days I'm going to order by my waffle towels and microfibre cloths. ❤

Can you clarify why you would sometimes use vinegar and other times baking soda?
@cleanmyspace
@cleanmyspace 9 ай бұрын
baking soda traditionally is used when some safe form of 'abrasive' is required (grapes, blueberries). but if you are using either one you are better off than none at all. Hope that helped clarify! Melissa.

Another suggestion I picked up from a woman who is a doctor and an Orthodox Sephardic Jew: if you buy berries, such as raspberries and blackberries, be sure to soak them for a while. Often there are little insects living in them. I saw her video. They keep strictly Kosher so she takes a lot of precautions.

2:00 I disagree. Washing them right away removes dirt and pesticides. Dirt=bacteria. Ever since I started washing my strawberries(always dirty dozen #1) in a water & vinegar solution shortly after buying, rinsing and putting on a tea towel to dry, cutting tops off, and putting in a container with paper towels, it makes it last SO much longer. Same with lettuce.

Excellent video and so useful! My least favorite veg: Brussels sprouts. When I think of cleaning fruits & veg's, I think of actual dirt too, not just pesticides, since dirt (soil) is where produce would pick up bacteria like E. coli or C. diff. I saw some research where the veggie that needs the most washing re: soil is lettuce, especially leaf lettuces or "spring mix," because lettuce is right down in the soil and there are so many folds and frills with lettuce that it's hard to fully rinse it. I've also had to rinse spinach multiple times to remove sand. ... and now I'm hungry for a nice salad, LOL! Thanks Melissa!

Not nice to keep the birds out🤷‍♀️ Any advice on how to do it differently? I know it's weird, but I want the zest too and don't want poo in my zest! I’m surprised you didn’t mention that it is better to choose organic versions of the dirty dozen, as opposed to using so many methods to clean them. My understanding of the growing process of the dirty dozen is that so many pesticides and other chemicals are used during the whole process that washing NON organic produce wouldn’t help. I may have to check the FDA site or the EPA for clarification.

My list of gross fruits and veggies is sadly pretty long, but the toppers are: olives (just the smell makes me gag), mushrooms, eggplant, cilantro, onions, and okra. I do like bell peppers but only if they're raw. I love broccoli and cauliflower but only if they're cooked.

Not a joke or a troll, honestly why so we actually need to clean these fruits? I have been eating these my whole life (38 yrs old) and never washed my fruit. Why is it bad eating fruit without washing them? What will it do to me eating them without washing them?

Besides the presence of film on many fruits, it also the handling of produce. Have you been to the grocery store as they’re putting produce away? Look at the crates they’re removing the produce from. Or when some drops produce on the floor. Also, some people like me may have a negative reaction to the fils on foods.
