Those top pins that were stuck are S.1640 but on all of the aftermarket pins the head is the wrong shape so on Goldie i put them in a lathe and made them look the same as original. Nice little lathe job. We call that a breaker bar, as it isnt really good for the ratchet to have a lot of load undoing tight bolts so you crack them with the breaker bar then use the ratchet. The Fergy spanners were all 11/16" and 1 1/16". Apprentices three at a time might be a bit much, lol. Good video, thanks for the mention.

Thanks Lance, “breaker bar” of course! It’s amazing what old age causes us to forget! Thanks for the info on the pins. I’m hoping to save these, if I do need new ones I don’t have a metal lathe to reshape them, we only have a wood turning lathe which won’t do!! 🙂

Greetings from Ohio, USA! This is exactly what I need to see because I want to remedy my leaking seal by installing a "sure seal". I have a procedural question, however. Would you have to remove the brake backing plate? Couldn't you just remove the 6 nuts holding the axle to the brake backing plate and then pull out the axle? Hi Steven and Kim from Ohio! Thank you for your comment, for watching and for subscribing! We hope you enjoy all of our videos. It has been a while since we worked on the rear axle, but as I recall the brake backing plate is held on by the same bolts as the axle boss, so as you loosen those and withdraw the half shaft, the brake plate will come with it. At least this is my recollection, if you see the opportunity to remove the half shaft without removing the plate then that would simplify the job as you wouldn’t need to mess with the brake activation shaft etc. I hope your project goes well. The sure seals are a great product, they are a little tough to get on mind you, just persevere, once they’re started it’s much easier 😉👍
