I got to say I am loving these old tractors. That is all 100% mechanical by the looks of it.

Looks very much like the Ford 3600 axle I resealed and put new breaks in a little while ago. I wasn't able to replace the outer axle seal so I only did the inner. Wish I could but didn't have the tools. Main thing was to stop the trans oil from leaking out. And get the brakes working again.

Great video Lance, any worries about asbestos linings in these?
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 жыл бұрын
Well I didnt mentioned it but I would be pretty sure some of the old linings would have it. That was the standard back then. I make a habbit of not using compressed air around brakes and clutches just in case. I always wet wash them just in case.

If the pads are wearing in the middle too much, the drum is worn too big. Consider replacing the drum. Else the brake pads will have short life and less braking power / slipping.

Thanks Iron, I will measure them up but they dont seem to have visible wear.

May be. I am assuming that the break pads would make a larger contact with the drum than just at the center. The Ford 3600 I replaced the brakes on was worn at the center but had wear spread out to the ends of the pads too. And the drums had only a little wear that I could tell.

Should there be a gasket surround those metal shims?
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 4 жыл бұрын
There is but I just use some loctite 515 or aviation gasket cement.

@@BundyBearsShed Ahh thank you for your quick response. Your videos are extremely helpful and I'm following them to repair the brakes on my 35. It would be impossible to do without your explanations :)

would I follow the same procedure for my TE20 rear brakes or are they different from the FE35?
@BundyBearsShed

Guy Johnson G Day Guy, the later TE20 tractors are exactly the same. The early tractors are slightly different but the basics are the same. I should have a video of the early ones out in a few months hopefully.
