Well jeez....since all the fishing boats that dock there, dump all their fish scraps overboard in the harbor, i wonder why sharks are around. Genius!!

It's their domain, it's not rare...I used to see a lot on the Windward side in Kaneohe Bay on Oahu.

It's really no surprise at all. Most fish and hungry predators come close to the bank and enter the shallows to hunt for food. We would assume they're more active like this in the shallows at night but even in broad daylight anything is possible. This is why if you're swimming in these waters whether it's a Harbor, beach etc you gotta be alert at all times.

My dad used to sail his little boat in Kaneohe bay and would see hammerheads and tigers all the time. This was the 60s. But they’re definitely in the ocean lol that’s their home.

And if you are going to swim with a "buddy" make sure that it is a "buddy" that you can out swim and always try to keep that buddy in between you and the shark.

The sharks dont give a shit if you think "Rare" they are close to shore...infact the first 50 yards off of shore is where the largest overall sum (30%) off "attacks" happen

Cruise Ships back in the day would anchor off Kona and dump their garbage off the lower deck and some nice size tigers would always show up they finally stopped it after a snorkeler went missing in Keauhou bay ..all they ever found was one of his flippers..🦈
