So I want to promote vegan food and lifestyle and I think my readers would love to know about you. I´m wondering if it would be okay to use your picture in my blog post when I write about you? I will link to your sites and let them know that the pictures are owned by you 😊 Have a great day.

i eat a balanced diets which includes meat and fish and dairy as it's the best source of protein your body can get, you don't need to eat large portions of meat fish dairy etc, everything in moderation and you don't need to eat meat or fish every day as long as you eat plenty of vegetables and some fruit with your meals that gives you the balance .... i live in a country with lots of farming land unsuitable for growing grains or have the climate to grow most fruits and vegetables .... my country mainly grows fruits like berries, strawberries, raspberries etc and that non arable land is only suitable for rearing cattle, and my country is almost surrounded by seawater so we have a abundance of fish and shell fish to chose from

Veganism has opened the doors to so many new foods. Prior to veganism I was very picky, now I’ll pretty much try anything. I remember someone telling me they were vegan and I said I could never eliminate meat and animal byproducts and that I wouldn’t eat tofu, lentils, or beans. Why does gluten free get enmeshed with vegan? Like, what’s up with that‽ a carnivore diet is gluten free, why should vegans avoid gluten? Obviously people with celiac disease need to avoid gluten, but that’s completely independent of eating meat or not. More than once I’ve been in a restaurant and asked if they have vegan choices and been told “we have a number of gluten free dishes” and I’m like, “that’s nice but do you have anything made without meat, eggs, or dairy?” and I get a blank stare in return.

@@firebrand_vinay agreed! I wasn’t trying to make fun of a server for not knowing what’s vegan, but rather that for some reason “gluten free” has somehow become synonymous with “vegan” in so many contexts. I recently say a bottle juice in the grocery store with a label “non GMO and gluten free!” and I had to wonder what juice *has* gluten in it (for that matter, I doubt many juices have GMO fruits in them either, but I don’t know about that) it seems to be a generic term to indicate “more better” or something like that.

I was vegan for 8 years, turned vegetarian for the past 4 years and now I’m making my way back to being vegan. I just found out in February that wine is NOT vegan unless stated by the company! I since found a company that has all vegan wine. I didn’t beat myself up for not researching how wine is made. It can be discouraging but you have to keep moving forward. A hidden ingredient being consumed every now and then doesn’t compare to eating them everyday all day! Thank you for this video ❤️

It was the opposite, All the resorts we went to catered to us and made us vegan meals every day, and when we stayed with his family they fed us delicious meals that they already knew how to make. It's just surprising how much they eat that is vegan without them even realizing.

I think one thing I would add: if going from omnivore to vegan is too hard for you, don't put so much pressure on yourself. Start slow. Maybe start pescetarian or vegetarian. After you're comfortable and feel like you've figured it out, go vegan. Doing SOMETHING is always better than trying to do to all, fail and then give up! 👍

I have eaten some vegan plant based meals for a long time while remaining an omnivore. It made this transition easier for me. I thought it wasn't healthy to be a full vegan and that we were meant to eat "some meat" just not much. That is what I did for years. The movie or documentary changed that for me and I am very excited to be full on plant based.

I would add another mistake that many people make: going waaay overboard with fiber too early in their "transition". If someone has had a standard 15-20g of fiber a day western diet, when they introduce more veggies, oatmeal for breakfast, legumes once a day, they will have a lot of GI issues. I think meat substitutes and tofu/seitan/tempeh for protein and pasta/white rice for carbs should be the staple in the early weeks of a vegan diet, together with probiotics to help your gut biome adjust to the new lifestyle

@Magnulus76
@Magnulus76 2 жыл бұрын
It's OK to eat things like white rice occasionally, especially if the rest of the meal has fiber. You can still easily reach 30+ grams of fiber a day on a such a diet. Soluble fiber should be alot less irritating than insoluble fiber. Oats shouldn't be a problem for most people, for instance, and oats are also a good prebiotic.
@discogoth
@discogoth 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Especially because a lot of people who go vegan but haven’t previously been vegetarian or eaten much fiber will have absolutely wild gas and diarrhea. Then they’ll go back to eating meat after a week and run around claiming veganism is terrible for you and it’s not possible to be healthy or feel good as a vegan. All because they haven’t taken the time to properly adjust. Whenever someone says to me “yeah I was vegan for, like, 8 days and it was horrible, I had such bad gas! It’s impossible to feel good, idk how you handle feeling sick all the time!!!” I’m like “okay, Amber, what did you eat in those, like, 8 days? Because I feel fine.” And 8/10 times it’s because they overloaded on the fiber and beans when they hadn’t eaten a bean or vegetable in a year.

I understand exactly how you feel, but please don't take it too personnaly! Your family, just like mine, is simply too rooted in the way they have been taught, and it is really hard to go against one's culture/heritage. I had to turn 40 and had to have a lot of health issues before I turned to veganism. Imagine : granddaughter of a butcher, granddaughter of a farmer producing milk, coming from one of the french regions that produce the most cheese, and living in a place where butter is king. How could I even imagine becoming vegan? XD So we have to try and be understanding, too. Eventually people will help and empathize, but it can be frustrating, especially when you are hungry! Some others will never empathize - let them be. My father still asks if I want meat... But he also still asks if I want coffee when I have never had a cup in my life. So... LMAO The key is to bring vegan substitutes that you can easily heat up or add to the served meals. Just ask that they cook veggies or rice/pasta separately from meat or fish. That in itself is a true relief! If they make that effort, then you won't feel cornered. It also helps to bring some yummy homemade treats XD - when it's delicious nobody cares if it's vegan or not! I wish you all the best, sending you cheers.

@@hi-kt8jj I felt that was a big decision too but I’ve now been vegan for 2 years and don’t regret it. I’d advise making the transition very slowly. It can be stressful if you do it too quickly. First I swapped to non-dairy milk, butter, ice cream, then I found substitutes for egg (scrambled tofu, baking with flax seeds or aquafaba), etc. I tried to do this too quickly but in the end managed it over a few months. And for a while I was only vegan at home, and still vegetarian when I ate out, until I found good places for vegan meals. Remember, every little swap counts. @@AnnaSvedberg12 It isn't. I have health issues that make it impossible because my body doesn't absorb nutrients like it should and there aren't enough supplements in the world to compensate. However, that said, I do as much as possible buy ethically sourced food, whether it's animal product or not. All my coffee is ethically sourced, for example, because the coffee industry is kind of messed. I also buy ethically sourced non-food items, like clothes, as much as possible. I'm a firm believer that there's an ethical way to consume just about anything. Finances sometimes prevent this, but sustainability is also about what is sustainable for me to continue buying and consuming with the resources I have.

This is so true. On ordering a vegetarian dish at a local restaurant, it came with fried ham on top. When we asked why there was meat on our vegetarian dish, we were told it wasn't meat. It was jamon (ham). We are also told that the traditional galician dish 'caldo' is vegetarian, but it is made with stock from boiling ham and beef bones . The concept of vegetarianism, let alone veganism, is really not understood in a society where vegetables are not served (mostly) in restaurants here - just meat and chips.

I have been a vegetarian for 32 years. Being even a vegetarian in those days in a Western society was tantamount of being almost a member of a sect. Especially when going to eat out or visiting friends (there I usually brought food prepared by me, which I shared with others). We should be really grateful that nowadays any diet or lifestyle is actually facilitated by what is offered on the market. Our responsibility is to take care of the balance of our body and to protect ourselves from nutritional deficits, which are not uncommon, especially for long-term vegans and vegetarians. I myself am still learning from such channels new ideas, beautiful food presentation and good combinations of different vegan foods. Thank you, Nisha!

Vegetable oil is vegan, but there is no dietary requirement for oil. Most vegetables and starches contain a little fat so that just eating enough food provides enough fat. Also free oils damage the endothelial lining of our blood vessels. With covid 19, it's more important than ever to keep our blood vessels as healthy as possible. Virtually all vegetable oils, including olive oil, are high in omega 6. Even in olive oil, the omega 6 to omega 3 ratio is 13:1. Most vegetable oils are almost all omega 6. We need a little omega 6 fat every day but eating vegetable oils takes you astronomically above what we need. Vegan meats that contain "soy protein isolate" are highly processed and even carcinogenic. The book "The China Study" by Colin Campbell is a great introduction into how to eat for your health, and the truth about the American food industry, mind blowing actually. And the movie "Forks Over Knives" is excellent (no animal cruelty scenes) and based on The China Study. John McDougall, MD has a big website with loads of information for free, and he also does youtube videos on how the key to eating vegan is focusing on starches (beans, potatoes, corn, rice, sweet potatoes, breads/grains).

your point about not being perfect is incredible. thank you so much; it's such an important point. i started as a vegetarian at a very early age (8) and despite my strong convictions, there was just a lot that i didn't know. it's so important to forgive yourself and to not think that you're somehow "tainted" or imperfect because you consumed an animal product unknowingly. this is a point that i haven't seen others make, but it's so important to state, especially as a long time plant-head.

We have been plant based for decades and one thing to remember is some folks who want to become plant based/vegan worry about making mistakes which will cost them money, especially if like some of us, they have a food budget. So I like to suggest that folks simply take the foods they like and tweak them so they are plant based. And once a person finds what dishes they like they can also aim to have a well stocked pantry with non perishable items like various pastas, rice's, canned vegetables, coconut milk, nuts, herbs and spices which saves money in the long run and makes for quick and easy meals. We like making a big pot of meatless chili using TVP (textured vegetable protein like Bob's Red Mill sells), or commercial plant based meat crumbles, and use the chili for chili cheese (vegan cheese) fries, tacos, filling for a baked potatoes, 'meat' sauce for lasagna, spaghetti etc. Hearty potato soup with vegetables, various hearty vegetable soups are both easy and inexpensive. The plant based Mac and Cheese shown in this video is easy and a favorite with all our friends who cannot have dairy. Lots of people cannot have eggs. So being plant based/vegan works well when one has friends who cannot have dairy, eggs and feel left out at parties or avoid accepting dinner invites.

Thank you. You helped me so much with this video. I am 61 and have been trying to be vegan for a long time. Most times I am 100%. Sometimes I revert back to 2 or 3 favorite non vegan foods but then come back. But then I am challenged with all the different types of vegans out there on the internet - SOS vegan, raw vegan, potato vegan, fruitarians, juicing vegans, no oil, yes oil. No processed vegan foods, etc. The list is endless and frustrating. I keep yo-yo ing from one style of vegan to the other or just reverting back to eating meat products. And I need to lose weight but not being successful. But what you said in the video in the beginning was like a wake up call. I am going to focus on my "why" and then just enjoy the food. I do want to be more compassionate to animals and the environment, I do want to stay healthy to watch my adult children grow and become successful. Once I master that, I can at a later time decide what foods I may or may not want to keep in my diet. Thank you. And I do love your recipes as well.

Hey Nisha, any chance you could do a short video talking to our south Asian community? I'm trying my hardest to convince my parents they need to clean up their diet, but I think we all can relate in the sense they're much more likely to listen to outside advice rather than from within the family. You're well established, quite articulate and I imagine my parents (as well as others) would connect to you easier. Not trying to stress you but if there's some short video you can do reiterating health benefits, and drawing the connection with traditional south Asian food (so it seems much less of a drastic change), I really think it could help. Sorry if this sounds redundant (you've highlighted some points in this video) but I hope I'm getting the idea across. It's a whole other experience when they see someone like you directly talking to their demographic, talking about the family history (since most of us share it), perhaps confining your showcase of recipes to easily adjustable dishes from Indian cooking. Thank you! :)

It's so true, I finally stopped eating meat when I was at this one event with hardcore bands singing about how it's wrong to exploit animals and I really felt that. After 2 months or so I went "vegan" (I still eat some dairy when visiting relatives once in a month or so) and the reason why I'm sure it will last a lifetime is because I feel my actions actually matter and have bigger, global inpact, which is a feeling I never felt before. Also the fact that I feel overall better physically counts too 😋

Everyone has a vegan honeymoon when they give up junk food. It sometimes takes years for nutrient deficiencies to manifest. Look up "Why I"m No Longer Vegan" videos on YT. That's your future.

@@luciusschulz3414 Because the vegan diet comes with nutritional deficiencies that are extremely hard to avoid. Some have a good base of health to start from so the deficiencies take longer to manifest. A scant few are lucky and avoid them altogether. Most, IME, start out fairly unhealthy, give up junk food and feel better and in a year or two start to feel the common side effects of veganism. Losing periods, hair falling out, bloated, circles under their eyes and/or sunken eyes, bowel problems etc.

@@johnnypenso9574 hey, i am on my 12th year (gave up when i was 7), I work out a lot, my hair is fine, no circle under my eye, no bowel problem, recovered from covid. Vegan eating is a delicious adventure. I can't get my family to go 100% vegan, but they only eat 2 or 3 small servings of meat per week. They love my cooking so eating mostly vegan meals doesn't feel like a compromise for them. I also bring vegan dishes to dinners with family and friends, and share recipes - maybe I influence others. I can live within my values much easier because I'm accommodating to my families preferences and make it fun for them.

i am not saying you should not eat vegan, but if you are forced by claims that say that livestock contributes to 15% or something of emissions, that means nothing if you dive deeper into their claims, just eat whatever you want to eat.
