He never turned to look back, rowing from the R after he had torched it. "Ooh-Rrr, run a-far," he sang, as the C'enty had just captured his heart. Her silhouette against the setting sun made his eyes swell up, as it somehow reminded him of his mis-spent youth, serving as first mate on the tiny crew of a Chinese Junk, and pilfering from its cargo. As he rowed towards his new C'enty, admiring the cut of her smaller jib, the sun lit a rye smile on his face. He'd anchored his C T'undred in Eee Bay, where he'd managed to fleece some greenhorn into buying her with stories of her legendary raw power. He'd told him how Uncle Caleb had said to him as a boy, "Build up your Resolve, son, and it will make you a man." He pittied the greenhorn who'd find out soon enough what it's like to man-handle the old girl in a storm. M'thinks he'll need plenty of that Resolve, he chuckled to himself.

The camera actually reads each pixel (sensor site, really) twice. Each read operates at 1/120th of a second. This is why DGO is only available on shooting speeds that can divide into 120. So 24 fps (120/5), 30 fps (120/4) and 60 fps (120/2) all work.
@xuanzhou80682 жыл бұрын
so I can't get DGO image when shooting 25 fps?
@cinnabun10463 жыл бұрын
Great video, but I don’t think your description of how DGO works is very accurate. Mainly that it’s NOT a setting you can turn on and off. The camera is always using DGO unless you are filming in a frame rate higher that 60p. Also at least in my understanding of DGO it’s not deciding if each pixel should be a “bright” or “dark” one, but exposing the image twice at different levels and blending them together. With the goal of protecting saturation in the highlights and minimizing noise in the shadows.
@CalebWojcik3 жыл бұрын

After spending many hours going back and forth over the pros and cons of the latest batch of amazing cameras (A7S3, Komodo Red, FX6, C70), I've landed on the C70 for most of the reasons you present in this video. The FX6 is probably the closest competitor in terms of shooting style and in some ways is better than the C70 (better ND implementation for example and RAW output). However, losing XLR audio for gimbal shots is a dealbreaker. Plus, the FX6's clunky autofocus per Philip Bloom's review just sounds like a headache. After running some HEVC quality tests, I think I'm going to switch my workflow to HEVC. I'm burning through hard drives way too fast. The expense is getting out of hand. So I appreciate that the C70 is HEVC capable. 95% of my work ends up on KZbin anyway. I need to do some more tests and see how well 10bit 422 HEVC grades, but I'm crossing my fingers. My favorite shooting style was with my 5D3 using an HDMI-connected EVF (Zacuto's Z-Finder Pro, which I think they call the Act EVF Pro now). I look forward to replicating that with the C70. I've got a Blackmagic P6K all rigged up with a cage, rails, grips, follow focus, etc. It's great, but it's also ridiculously heavy and bulky. It's fine for indie film work, but a total pain for corporate stuff. I'm looking forward to getting back to a simpler workflow. The C70 is an inch away for being my perfect camera. Maybe Rev 2 or a C90 will get us closer, but the C70 is a great start. Just add SDI, RAW, Sony's ND tricks, Gyro metadata, better autofocus (in low light and high frame rates, plus Eye AF). Easier said than done to be sure. I'd also like a rotatable side grip like the FX6. Oh, and a complete touch screen menu system, not just partial.
@The_Guth3 жыл бұрын
I'm going back and forth with the C70 & FX6. I own a c200 and i have a sony a7iii for passion projects. That being said, i'm invested in both systems fairly well, having decent glass for both but also being on the fence about which would do better on terms of look and workflow capabilities. i love my c200 for the RAW workflow and the look i get out of it. Looking into the fx6 or even the sony a7siii seemed like nice cameras to go about and just a matter of migrating the glass and the look of the full frame those cameras could provide. But also in other hand was having the ease of use on set with maybe the c70 since the canon menus and all that stuff are a lot enjoyable to use. When i pick up my canon feels a joy to use and i dont think about so much the technical side of things, when i pick up my sony i feel like it's a machine and i wont get much of the experience out and it feels like just a "job" when im using it for client work but it DELIVERS. And yes one last point that made me back off the Fx6 was that touch auto focus, the cheaper a7siii has a better ease of use.

There are quite a number of cameras these days with *a* timecode connector, but to my knowledge ONLY the ENG-style 2/3" video camcorders of old had TWO timecode connectors, one in AND one out, so you could daisy-chain timecode to a bunch of cameras if you wanted, for synched iso-recording (e.g., I shot a music video with fellow videographers years ago with 2 cameras shooting different angles synched to the music playback deck). Although not used very often, I would like to see cameras with separate TC IN and OUT connectors again.

Good review, Caleb. You outlined the very things I was sure you would miss on the C200. Regarding 10 bit---yes, it's a shame, but if most of what you do is for KZbin (and not Netflix) isn't 10 bit overkill? And you can get 10 bit for grade by transcoding the RAW in Davinci. But False Color, for me, would be a big deal! The thing that makes me not buy into the C70 is the lack of an EVF----very awkward for certain types of shooting. How easy is it to see the LCD of the C70 in bright outside light? Is it as good as the BMPCC6k Pro? That screen is great!
@CalebWojcik3 жыл бұрын
It is definitely not bright enough to see in direct sunlight, but with a LCD sunhood and the luminance turned all the way up it is usable outside. You could always get an external EVF or use a 3000nit monitor.

8-bit really starts to degrade once you grade it, and the Canon Log 2 & 3 profiles are much better with 10-but files. Also, I didn’t want to have to film in RAW and then have to transcode all my footage just to get 10-bit files.
