Here's how it works: The bank gives out your money as loan, and charge interest obviously higher than inflation rate, and then give you, the depositor, interest lower than inflation rate. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. Yeah, brokerage AdvisoRs could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of investors raking in 6 to 7 digits in a space of months. So, I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2020, and the least I returned was $140k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

Dividends are just forced stock sales. They are no different than just selling a small portion of a non-dividend stock or index fund each month. Most dividend stocks have a lower total return than the S&P500. People are deluded that dividends are free money. They aren't - dividends reduce the underlying stock price. Check out the adjusted closing price on the ex-dividend date.
