It's just at the edge of my hearing when my ear is to my pillow but not obvious where it is coming from and harder to hear when I sit up to listen, took me a while to figure it out, and is super distracting in the dark in bed late at night, made me so paranoid XD Not a complaint just a weird observation I made last night lol.

@Uzgun Domates My disappointment had nothing to do what “happily ever after” endings or what-not and more to do with the terrible characterization and very, very slow pacing First, let’s look at the premise of the film - the highly-trained commando units sent into this bizarre alien phenomenon disappear with a trace except for one guy, and these people want to send in an all-female team of bookworms because…. Reasons? Even a basic exercise in logic says this is a suicide mission (something bookworms aren’t known for going on…) and, as it turns out, the only trait all the characters share is a desire to die! It’s like this whole mission was just an elaborate way for these hapless nerds to kill themselves! Sorry, but a horror story with characters that deliberately seek their own deaths isn’t very compelling. Also, the pacing was ridiculously slow due in large part to all the flashbacks of the main protagonist’s failing marriage - who gives a shit about any of that? Do we get insights into the family life of Professor Armitage in “The Dunwich Horror” or learn about the relationship between the nameless protagonist of “Dagon” and his wife (if he even has one)? No! Such details detract from the horrifying scene around the characters in this cosmic horror tale and the horror is the true star of the show: not some insignificant little human’s failing relationships.

I can gladly say I have watched the entire list, it is indeed a great list.

Whats really cool about The Thing is the original was directed by Howard Hawkes and Carpenter is on record saying he wanted to be howard Hawkes. hell the original Thing from another world is playing on a tv in halloween.

I disliked Event Horizon back in the day, but now I watched a couple years ago, and made a reassessment. It's far from perfect, but in retrospective it's better and more imaginative than I thought.

The Void I loved the thing I also loved Harbinger Down I also loves because they use practical effects and barely any CGI or none at all. Keep it coming with body horror and cosmic horror movies I need more to watch lol. The mist was so good but that ending is always a tear jerker for me i they should have used the books ending instead T^T. Annihilation was excellent cosmic horror was very beautiful and music synthesis was freaking awesome that I could listen too it all day :3

The description of Event Horizon is wrong, again do they actually watch these movies before they make these videos ?

I was wondering if I watched the same movie or not as the guys who made this video.
@shoesncheese4 жыл бұрын
I mean, if you twist it sideways, it sort of accurate, but it made me ask the same question. I'm hoping there is a set of initial writers who have actually watched the movies and then editors and a narrator who might not, so they may make changes that end up being wrong when they think they are just cleaning something up. At least I hope so. I cannot believe that my KZbin entertainment is based on a lie.

'Cabin in the Woods' is underrated. Granted, it's more comedy than horror but it's such a great concept.

But not cosmic horror. Loved it as well. Cosmic horror is about overwhelming existential powerlessness against forces in the universe where you can't even comperhend the motivation, you just dreadfully guess parts of it.

Awesome video! And very good list! But I disagree with half of it lol Wish you would have included "In the Mouth of Madness," "The Color Out of Space", "Dagon." But "Cabin in the Woods"? That part is actually a spoiler that happens in the very final act...like 95% of it is a slasher-type movie. Great movie though! :-) And "Absentia"? Another awesome movie, but I don't consider that cosmic horror...

I love these kind of lists. I've never realized how much I like cosmic horror stories. I love all of these movies, with the exception of The Void. The Mist and The Thing (notice him painting using The Thing poster as reference in The Mist), Annihilation and Cabin in the woods, are all classics. Resolution, and it's semi-sequel; The Endless are great, introspective films about brotherhood along with some sort of mysterious force at play. Both might be slow for some, but amazing ideas and dialogue and I find myself thinking about both movies. Finally, I think John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness is missing from this list. For some reason I'd never watched it, and when I did, it became on my favourite horror movies. Creepy.

You should had mentioned the fact that Stephen King praised the ending of the mist because in the book it was unclear and open to interpretation but in the movie it was a heart tearing twist.

My intro to Psych professor recommended The Mist to us. We got extra credit for writing a paper about the group dynamics in it. She sure as hell didn't warn us about how graphic and depressing it was. That ending...Ouch.

How about Life, Pandorum and Cloverfield Paradox or 10 Lane Cloverfield, A Quiet Place, Bird Box, The Apostle and The Ritual.

Pandorum was an excellent film... I'm my top 10
@faz68774 жыл бұрын
I enjoy Pandorum, rewatched last week. But I see that as pretty straight up Sci-Fi, not cosmic. Not all Sci-Fi films are Cosmic horror / Lovecraftian. I will say really enjoy 10 Cloverfileld Lane, but Cloverfield Paradox was a mess. Not sure deserves to be mentioned among great films like The Thing.

I need to see the B&W version of the Mist... I'm sure the intended art will be much better than the color version. Speaking of color, Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space should have bumped something out of this 10... But what? Probably Annihilation. Wait. I only count 9 here, skipping through again. Just add it. 1. Event Horizon 2. Uzumaki (haven't seen yet but wanted to for a while) 3. The Void 4. The Mist 5. Annihilation 6. The Cabin In the Woods 7. In The Tall Grass 8. The Thing 9. Absentia (never hear of; Thanks!) Wait again, reading down the comments, Alien deserves a place here. So what now to bump out? Probably Annihilation.

Loved Event Horizon. Reminded me of Warhammer 40k's concept of the Warp. The manga with the spirals was the weirdest freaky thing I ever read. The Mist was pretty great too. The tv series offered a different take on it, with more time for character development too. Isn't The Cabin In The Wood a clone of Evil Dead?
@thebarbaryghostsf2 жыл бұрын
I've heard fans joke about Event Horizon being Paul Anderson's secret W40k prequel film lol.
