As a triple negative breast cancer 5 year surviver i have to say that chemo affects everyone different. My chemo was very aggressive regimen and definitely kicked my butt but i got through it and so can you. Chemotherapy is different for everyone and i was a very healthy fit 52 year old but i could not work and definitely couldn't work out. I slept pretty much through most of it , lost 30 pounds due to metal mouth , nausea and no appetite . I dont want to sugar coat this. It can be difficult but you will come through it ok. Keep the faith.

Absolutely different for everyone. We all have to take it one day at a time through chemo. I’m glad you’re healed. 🙏🏼 My experience is my own. I believe taking my tips into consideration can help others out there that want to move or need to work. I had to be very intentional through chemo because I had to work the first time being my head of household. I had to have energy the second time to help my baby and 2 year old. I’m grateful I could do all of this.

@tracydikeman8129 Жыл бұрын
@Jera Moore No , did not have a mastectomy. I was fortunate that the chemotherapy not only shrunk my tumors in my breast but also had a positive lymph node, I was able to have a lumpectomy. After my lumpectomy surgery I was put on a chemotherapy pill for 4 months called Xeloda ( piece of cake) then 33 radiation treatments. You can do this ,the chemo was the worst for me especially the chemo called the red devil after that it was much easier. If you have anymore questions please write back I will help you anyway I can.

I have metastatic breast cancer and went thru 12 rounds of IV Taxol. I'm now on oral chemo/hormone treatment and doing well. Agree with everything you said, Marina. I used nail strengthener polish on all my newly brittle nails during chemo. I have permanent neuropathy in both feet--just numb and tingling but no pain so it's tolerable. I took Gabapentin for a few months which didn't help and caused me to be so sleepy I could barely function. It's a great drug for some but not for me and it didn't touch my neuropathy. Neither did Alpha Lipoic Acid but I am still taking it till I finish the bottle. When you switch to oral chemo/hormone or targeted therapy, please keep a strict schedule for your meds. I take mine every 12 hours (8 am and 8 pm) and they seem to work better this way. I take Verzenio and Letrizole and have absolutely no problems with either med at this time. I got thru the worst of it (severe diarrhea in the beginning) and did fine. I found the biggest help for me was to eat small snacks every few hours rather than full meals. Everything with high protein was good for me as I lost so much weight during my chemo. I love hot soup, yogurt, and kind of fell in love with Ensure drinks. They make an apple drink which is delish and great for protein intake. I ate more eggs, cottage cheese and applesauce. Even peanut butter on crackers was easy to eat when I literally had no appetite at all. I had very little nausea but my main symptom was extreme fatigue. I think I slept more during that year (IV chemo plus starting the oral chemo) and it was rough. My advice to all starting chemo: STAY POSITIVE. You will get thru it. It's challenging but do-able. Get plenty of sleep, gentle easy exercise or more if you can stand it. Eat well, eat high protein and low or no sugar. Hydrate. Take a daily multivitamin which will help. Best of luck to everyone fighting cancer. It's not the end of the world for most. It's just a bump in the road but can be overcome by the majority who are diagnosed. Praying for all of you.

@@jeannettehobourn4793 I forgot to mention: before they start the IV chemo on you, please ask for pre-medication if they don't offer it already. When I had my IV chemo, I got an antihistamine, an anti-emetic and a steroid all IV just prior to getting the chemo each week. The pre-meds made me sleepy which was fine but also they helped cut back on nausea. Best of luck to you, Jeanette. I'll be praying for you to recover completely and kick cancer's butt.

I hope you are doing well! As a side note, liquid fasting (no sugar) 2-3 days before, the day of and the day after chemo treatments is extremely helpful. It dramatically reduces the side effects of chemo and accelerates tumor shrinkage. New research is showing that fasting can be a very effective cancer treatment, in addition to chemo, and even on its own.
@edio.8431 Жыл бұрын
Hi! but would you suggest any supplements during fasting? Thanks
@dlg5485 Жыл бұрын
@@edio.8431 Absolutely! There are many anti-cancer nutrients that can help kill cancer, and can be taken during a fast... turmeric, garlic, ginger, macha green tea, vitamin D3, omega 3 fatty acids, organic moringa leaf powder, etc. Many of these can be taken on empty stomach in supplement form and found in (or added to) different foods. A close friend of mine is in total remission from stage 3 lung cancer, after only just 3 chemo treatments, several months of intermittent prolonged liquid fasting, NO sugar/carbs (cancer thrives on sugar), and using these nutrients. I believe this is the best overall treatment for cancer, and the earlier you start these protocols the better. I take many of these regularly as cancer prevention because it runs in my family.

Can you be more specific, like what liquids? If no sugar I’m assuming not even juicing fruits or even some veggies? Maybe a bone broth diet? My brother has chemo scheduled soon. My concern with fasting is he’s on pain meds..not sure he could go without food on pain meds.
@StormTroopersInStilettos Жыл бұрын
Please do not hand out potentially dangerous information to those who are desperate. The attitude towards the role of fasting in cancer patients should be very cautious, as the risk of malnutrition/sarcopenia may be associated with this approach. The effects so far have been tested thoroughly only in animals and only on certain cancers.

I was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer 5/1/2011 and just found out I relapsed a week ago. My initial chemo and debulking surgery was just like yours 3 chemo rounds, surgery, then the last 3 chemo rounds. After 10-11 years N.E.D., I kinda took my remission for granted. I let down my guard. I asked for this last CA-125 though and its a good thing I did. It had been well over a year since the last one. It has been 5,6, or 7 since 2012, but it was 278 this time. So I knew, but we confirmed I have at tumor the size of a tennis ball and possible lymph node involvement. I am scheduled for round one this Friday. i would like to have my tumor sample sent for genomic testing but not sure how to make that happen.I have a Medicare Advantage plan through Kaiser Permanente since January and they’ve been great so far. Has anyone got their insurance to cover the test? I didn’t even know about it in 2011 so i didnt get it done. I did get genetic testing and I am BRCA1+.

@@MarinaBlackford Yes! I had my head shaved about two weeks after my chemo started. I was already losing tons of hair so just went with it and did fine. I wore a knit cap on my head for a year and now the hair has grown back in a lot. Mine never changed but some get "chemo curls"--- a different type of hair that shows up.

@@phuonganhnguyen8826 wow, my doctor told me the same thing about France and there were 4 persons with like my sacoma. First they told me nothing to worry about. Yesterday I had appointment for control of the scar. But then they told me I have rhabdomyosarcoma and a unique version of it that they don’t know. Also don’t know how to heal. The tumor is gone a month ago bc they were thinking it was a good tumor. I don’t know what to do or what I have to feel.. I’m 24 y/o girl from The Netherlands
@phuonganhnguyen8826 Жыл бұрын
@@lisakaats7251 So have they concluded that it will be fine for you from now on :D? The tumor is gone, you are in normal condition whole again? If so, I am so so happy to hear this good news from you. Yes, mine also stems from a large scar on my belly (detected 4 years after the belly surgery). I have been monitored by two doctors who are 2 of the best in Europe (or the world) regarding this kind of tumour I think. After the biopsie we felt much relieved already that it is not a malignant cancer, so we apply the "wait and see" approach. If it was malignant, I could have not survived 1 year without immediate treatment. In your case, it has passed its stable phase and went down the reduction phase quite fast, so it is gone (Congratulations !!!). We do not know why, it is a very individual matter. Unfortunately, it is still in the growing phase in my case, and I am starting chemo to limit its growth (and hopefully stimulate it to gradually reduce size by its own, to finally disappear) in order not to damage other organs around the tumour ;). Then other MRI as I have done in the past year to see if the chemo slows down the tumor.

Thanks for sharing - I had very bad splitting of my nails at the slightest pressure after two rounds of Chemo and this is the first time I have heard anyone talk about this. I found a thick, neutral colour nail polish helped a lot, so long as it was regularly applied. The Neuropathy in my feet was (is) the worst side effect I experience and now, 2 years in and 6 months after finishing my last round of Chemo, the pain stops me exercising or walking / standing for any length of time - probably permanent damage and essentially my fault, as I just accepted that the significant (although temporary - lasting a few hours) issues I was having with motor skills in my legs and feet after infusion were normal. The pain itself started to set in about 4 months after completing my first treatment (Oxyplatin / Capacetabine) and is still getting progressively worse, nearly two years later. So, do not hesitate to discuss this with your Oncologist ASAP - you do not want to ignore it and be in permanent pain (no drugs I’ve tried so far have had any beneficial effect). Thanks again for sharing your personal experience - a so much better and more useful presentation than anything I have seen, put out in Medical or University Teaching videos. The very best of luck with your battle 😊👍🇦🇺

My biggest problem with chemo was severe vasculitis, I became an instant bleeder. For asthma and eczema I began using Dupixent in 2021 after 7 months the vasculitis disappeared and has never come back.

Thank you so much for doing these types of videos!!! I am a three time cancer survivor and I wish I had had this video before my wife contracted cancer a year and a half ago. Praise God she is fully recovered and we are living in back to a normal life and a great marriage! However, I have a dear friend that I love and admire very much and she just started treatment for breast cancer. I should try this link just today. I am positive this video will bless her life and help her through. Truly God uses people like you to bless thousands of others!!! This video information is real, compassionate, and practical for anyone who is about to journey through the chemotherapy experience. Great advice!!!

I had a double mastectomy two weeks ago because I had a suspicious lump and my family has a history of metastatic breast cancer. It was not an easy decision to make but I want to live as many years possible for my baby. 😭

Just got my port installed today. It went on the inside part of my upper arm instead of my chest. Also received my cold packs and anti-nausea wristbands from Amazon in just one and two days. Thanks for the product lists! Day 1 of chemo starts tomorrow.

First day went surprisingly well. No side effects during infusion. Although the visit lasted 7 hours. Since then, lots of mild headaches and upset stomach. Had an Accupuncture session 3 days later. Didn't notice any effect. But will continue for now.

Well got it went okay for you. I would continue to try the acupuncture. Your affects from chemo usually get worse as time goes on as far as fatigue and neuropathy. I hope it continues to go OK! One day at a time!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I just hit your subscribe button! I was diagnosed the first of march with lung cancer. They (docs) say stage 3 or 4. I’ve been though it already in such a short time. Having no insurance, I was turned away from a few doctors. I was given financial aid through the hospital I’m going to. I was scheduled then denied for an EBUS procedure by one doctor. I’m 61, divorced, single and have worked since I was 15 and receive very little ss money. I received state Medicaid towards the end of march. I have not missed a phone call or appointment and have been diligent on my part. Thank God I have a wonderful stepfather who helps and guides me a long. I received my first intravenous chemotherapy on may 19. My doctor originally wanted to put me on oral chemo known as targrisso however, there was a problem with that, blah, blah, blah. Good news though finally tagrisso approved, I have another appt with my oncologist on Thursday and he will tell me when to start the new original pills to be taken daily. My prognosis is not good. This medication may give me two more years of life. I cried for the whole first month of finding out about this and now I have just accepted what is going on because…it is what it is. I pray to my Heavenly Father that He will wrap His arms around me and take me to His Kingdom when he calls. Thank you sweethearted lady again, for sharing your knowledge and posting on Amazon which I will be purchasing tomorrow 😊.
