With these new oils they say they are "cross compatible " but they take alot of the wear package out these old engines need ...it would probably smooth out your engine to add some ZDDP to your oil change . Lucas makes a zinc additive that I run in all my older engines and it adds a little protection to your tappets and cam....other than that excellent job

I would add when filling the jugs with the old oil. Put the jug in a 5 gallon bucket..helps hold the funnel and jug and contain spills.

If any of you do your own oil, consider adding a Fumoto valve in place of the oil pan bolt. Makes changing oil a nicer experience. They have a fel-pro type gasket too. Thanks for you video, Decent Oil change! 👍

A 4X4 Dodge Ram with no front driveshaft !! Great tutorial for those who are not familiar with oil changes. I am not making a criticism , just mentioning that it is usually good practice to start the drain plug by hand rather than with a socket & ratchet to avoid cross threading the pan boss or the plug threads. Regarding the oil...any oil that carries the API seal is just fine for normal use.

I was thinking the same thing, and unscrew by hand when taking it out so the ratchet isn’t dr e niched in oil. Good video though.

Thanks so much for these "common man" videos. It helps a great deal to see someone who is NOT a mechanic perform these tasks with ease. The only suggestion I might make is to change the drain plug to a drain valve. Makes it even easier!!

Oil filter, if you can’t get a wrench on it use sandpaper for extra bite. Also put the drain plug in by hand ive cross threaded one before with a ratchet 😅. Great video

Another great video! Your Brother did fantastic! Perhaps you might include him in other videos, especially if you need a helping hand with any projects that need more than one person. One tip I use when changing the oil in my truck is to take a Sharpie pen and write the mileage and date on the filter itself. I usually write it on a couple of locations as I can never figure out where the filter face will end up when it is fully tightened. It is up to you as to whether you write the mileage and date of the actual change or the mileage and date of your next change. Either way it helps me to keep track of the interval instead of writing it on a window sticker or somewhere I might lose it. I have also seen this practice done on differential housings when fluids are changed there as well.

Fantastic job. I will say I despise who came up with the silver aluminum type material that seals new oil in. I get the importance and why it’s needed but dang. Can we get something that comes off in one piece? 😂

Check out the DONALDSON BLUE DBL7349 OIL FILTER as it is rated at 15 micron. Not cheap. Given that it is 100F most of the year for me, I run Chevron Delo 40W instead of 15W/40. A five gallon container of Delo 40W the last time I bought it was ~$87 (probably going to be higher for next oil change in a month+). No real issues at 110F+ or 17F (other than using block heater which also warms the oil for start-up). Add-on gauges for oil temp and psi. May not be the best oil choice, haven't had any issues for a 28 year old truck.

You did a good job telling people how to visualize the way to turn the filter on or off, but I have an easier way to explain it. Looking at it like a clock, clockwise = right, counterclockwise =left. If you turn the bolt, nut, screw, or filter right, it moves away from you. If you turn it left, it comes towards you. The saying is: Right away, or Left up to me. This works great on right hand threads, not so much on left hand threads. That’s easier than visualizing being behind what you are screwing on or off.
