A 12 year old isn't buying his own super late model.
@toddblevins52497 жыл бұрын
Michael Carter I wouldn't recommend that a twelve year old buy a super late model even if he was able. I'm just saying, money without talent is just another car running at the back. I've seen it dozens of times. A rich kid comes along, races for a year and a half or two, and then he's gone, frustrated because he can't get the car to turn left. I'd be willing to bet that it's easier to find a car owner looking for a driver than it is to find a twelve year old with the talent and the balls to drive one. Sure money is important in racing but you'll often find that an unlimited budget can make a less talented driver just fast enough to be dangerous. I'll say it again. It takes more than a rich dad.
@michaelcarter5777 жыл бұрын
+Todd Blevins I don't think you understand what I was saying. Talent or not, I wish I had had a rich dad or uncle to buy me a race car as a kid. Talent doesn't do you any good if you don't have any money.
@toddblevins52497 жыл бұрын
Michael Carter And money doesn't do you any good if you don't have talent. Yeah, I understood exactly what you were saying. It was just a small poke towards the kid but it was still a poke. I hear you though. Does it have to be a relative. Hell, I believe I would have let a rich neighbor or even a rich stranger buy me a car when I was a kid. I'm not picky but I did lie just now. I was never a kid!

Richard Mcfarland I have worked with teams with unlimited budgets and small time racers. I can tell you from experience, money get you into the top 10 most cases. But skill, technique, adaptability in changing conditions, and occasional risks get you to the front ( and some balls of course). At a certain level of competition it the money only means you got similar equipment that is all.

That they have been running for a few years and have racing on Thursday nights for the public. You should see Carter with a rc car lol. He is going to be a very good race car driver in the big ranks. They win a lot of the local dirt track in the area

@DDS0296 жыл бұрын
Nope, just trying to keep racing alive. When you're that young, you either get scared from a big wreck, bored with it due too a kid's short attention span, and you really learn about girls. And since it's not likely he's up till 2 am all week, and opening his check book to fix the car if he wrecks. His career will end before mine got started. And I did it without a father, he passed away one week after I turned 16. Reduced to selling scrap batteries for $1 to buy a spark plug because I broke one while cleaning and regapping them. That's what racers go through, that's how you learn respect for the effort others put in their cars, instead of just getting pissed and wrecking them the first time you come up on them. Everybody is different, but children driving race cars will have at least some of these qualities, if they weren't in the garage up to their elbows in rear end grease, or looking at and empty wallet walking out the parts store. So one more expected to help move the sport into the future, takes his race car and goes home to BUY, not build, a car that will drift and end up in more accidents on the road than on the track.

Not sure how I feel about that. Being able to handle the car skill wise is one thing. Being able to be mature enough to race a super late model is another. Granted there are guys that are 30+ that have no business in a super late due to their mentality/lack of maturity but I can't imagine a kid being mature enough. If it was just test and tunes that would be one thing, but racing to me would be another.

Not much better here just expensive. Although, I have seen an increase in "young gun" classes or novice classes that limits either age or years of experience. One class here at some tracks only allows you to run 1-2 seasons before you reached max time in that specific class and have to move up to more experienced drivers.
