Thank you Josh! I have this book too. However, I am teaching myself how to read the standard notation. It is frustrating to want to do the exercise and be slowed by my current poor reading skill. I do believe my brain will recognize things much faster as I practice. Just wanted to say ALSO watching someone play and how it should sound helps someone like me!

can anyone give me some advice on how you're supposed to play the flourish whole note at the end? doesn't seem like there is any explanation of it anywhere. looks like you're somehow supposed to hit three strings with your thumb at once and then use your other two fingers on the high strings.. why wouldn't you just strum all 5 with your thumb, or use your other fingers to help out?
@nbnguitar9 ай бұрын
You can play it in any number of ways including a rolled arpeggio, block chord, strum with the thumb or any finger, rasguedo, even artificial harmonics if you wanted to incorporate those for practice. All the best Brandon!

Hello Joshua, not sure if you monitor for comments, but I have a question. I am not a classical guitarist, although I have worked on a few "classical" type songs like Classical Gas, but I do love to finger pick. I have been working through the 120 RHS for a while and wanted to be sure I was doing right and found you channel. I must say you are very talented and an excellent teacher. So my question, and it might be a stupid one, but are the tips you provide for how to hold you hand and strum etc., good for finger picking in general. As I get more accurate and faster I can see a real improvement when I go an play non-classical songs I have been practacing. I might have answered my own question, but I just want to be sure I am not picking up some bad habits that don't lend themselves well to more contemporary rock/blues guitar picking. All the best mate. AE

Hi Alan. The tips are good in general. If you diligently apply them your right hand will have no choice but to improve!

Excellent!!!, As a novice I am bit confused with G7 chord shape. Are there different ways to play G7?
@nbnguitar2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. There are many ways to play G7. In these Giuliani used the following inversions: root position, 1st inversion, and 2nd inversion. The 3rd inversion (which would begin on the note F) is the only one that is not used.

Christian, you can make it! Check your thumb first - make sure it’s doing the correct pattern. Then isolate you index & middle fingers - they should be picking the first two strings only.

Your videos are great Josh! Thank you so much! you are easily the most informative and most humble teacher on yt! I just saw your video on the g major Segovia scale and now your explanation on the 120 rh studies, just excellent. I switched from electric to classical guitar, so I heavyly focus on right hand technique. Do you think practising the 120 arpeggios and the g mamor segovia scale with all fingerings will be sufficient for the next months? Or would I miss out on something? (Additionally I would play some easy pieces like Estudio en E Menor by Tarrega for fun :) ) Thanks again, awesome videos! Greetings to NZ fro the other side of the world!

Thank you Gunnar. I modelled my teaching style on my first teacher's style - Mr. Peter Thwaites and of course I mixed it with my own personality. He's a great teacher and taught me first and foremost to have fun and to love music in general. My technique isn't the best but I think my strength lies in being able to get the main fundamental points across in an easy to understand way without being intimidating. I think you should definitely add the estudio in otherwise you'll go crazy just playing the arpeggios and G major scale! Greetings to you too bold warrior!

Thanks Joshua this is exactly what im talking about ,i know you dont take requests but if i could be so bold as to ask you about a piece im having difficulty with i would appreciate it . I learned a piece called preludio criollo by rodriego rierra i think his name is . I learned it with some tab and by watching a bloke called Jesus Gonzalez doing his version on you tube ,its real emotional .Now the thing is i can handle the tricky chord changes just about but the part were he doubles up and triples up with his thumb i cant seem to get the hang of,maybe if you are looking for some progressive tunes you could show us how or something ,this would be easy for you .Anyway thanks again for all the help ,its coming along nicely !

Gareth Redmond i saw your comment and was curious, so i had a listen and liked it. so naturally i wanted to learn it. i found a tab that explains the thumb part. so there are two variations of the count 1 2 3. the first you pluck thumb with ring finger, next middle by itself, next thumb with index. the second half you basically reverse it so you pluck ring finger by itself, next thumb and middle, next index by itself. so the pattern just swaps between these two ,and then you play this pattern with all of your chords, and voila preludio criollo I hope ive been of help. im not that great of a teacher so let me now. im going to be learning this song it looks like fun. thanks for the recommendation.
@garethredmond13318 жыл бұрын
see i was just playing 1 thumb stroke at the start of every 1,2,3, with the index finger but im gonna swap that with the first method you suggested and play the thumb on 1 and 3 ,like u said,it sounds great ,thanks for the help M8 ,appreciated!
@danieldelapena83698 жыл бұрын
Gareth Redmond oh no its just one method, but it alternates between the two so that you play with the thumb everyother note, if you just play one half it will sound off. think of it as six strokes alternating between thumb plus finger, and finger by itself. sorry for the confusing description before. ill just link the tab i found. also glad i could help : ) m.lacuerda.net/itrans.php?t=mcla0931

Hello Rifat, absolutely. And your thumb can be used on any string at all. The most important thing to focus on is how you move your thumb rather than which strings it should or should not play on.

Question from a beginner here. Am I supposed to do each excersize until I can do it consistently and only then go to the to next excersize or am I supposed to play through all of them at once la etude style? Also, man arpegios are rough for me. Just gotta keep practicing I suppose.

I would pick a few that work in conjunction with a piece you're trying to learn. If you're practicing them independently then try to get them nice and fluid and move on once you've achieved the desired tempo.
