Great advice, from the icon himself. On video mode, you can see deer looking at the cameras, even high up, best to use no glow cameras.

I have 28 ladder stands on 5 farms and leave them up all year. Some have been up 15 years, I swap straps yearly and have never been picked off on stand. Most of them I use the seat for my feet when I’m saddle hunting. Yes I’ve had a lot of deers noses inches away. Great video!🏹🏹🦌

Bryan, I was talking about noticing things like ladder stands in pressured areas and I didn't mention that so bad on me.

@@johneberhart4062 I’m the only one who hunts theses farms in Nebraska, they are my wife’s family farm and here cousins. I didn’t marry here for the farms but it sure is a HUGE perk. Again love all your videos you tell it like it is. 🏹🦌🦃

@@Bryan-wc3et That's a huge perk and they are in Nebraska which is one of the 5 best states. That's why you can get away with ladder stands and not be noticed.

Od green paracord works great for hanging cameras to. Blends right in with the tree bark.

I'll be sending my ESS to Noah this summer. The new cinch strap on the front looks so much better than the stock one.

I had one of my best deer seasons ever while running a ton of white flash cameras at hip height, on highly pressured ground. I really think it's region and even property specific. Depends on the deer's personality too. Every buck is different. When you mount cameras high and shoot them down on a scrape or trail, you "spotlight" a very, very small detection zone for the camera and will miss a ton of action just off the camera's view. Mounting them level and at hip height gives you a TON of detection area...definitely personal preference and all about what you believe. Mounting them 15 feet in the air will miss a bunch of movement.
@pinch1loaf4 ай бұрын
It will but that's why I personally only mount cameras on high traffic areas. I look for intersections of major trails, runways or major scrape areas. You can move some brush around and create a bit of a choke point to get the deer to funnel through your detection area. If you pick the right spot you don't need a wide detection area. The deer typically travel on the trails. Not only that but even the range is redundant. Getting a picture of a deer too far away makes it hard to get a good visual. I'm aiming for somewhere between 15-30ft(5-10m) Also consider people stealing your cameras or checking your pictures. You hang your cameras high the odds are most PEOPLE won't even see them.

On public for both deer and camera thieves, not only do I put the camera up high but I often put weeds or twigs between the strap and the tree and then bend them over so it breaks up the strap around the tree. Dead sticks and leaves or twigs make a big difference in breaking up the strap outline.
@johneberhart40626 ай бұрын
Yes, theft is definitely an issue on public. If you keep track of your cell camera ID numbers and someone steals one, you can have it disabled, but it's still stolen.

Where I hunt we can use screw ins, so I carry 3 different colors of paracord with me for when I go out to hang cams and hang them about 9ft up. The paracord is so low profile that it's a lot harder to see. I've been lucky with the 9ft up but I know a few other people that have to put their cams higher.

I am confused. At 12:00 you said if you take your cell camera with you which I did not do. Didn't you just put up the cell camera?? You also say "If you take your cell camera and place it on flat part of the cell camera". Are you meaning to say "cell phone" instead of "cell camera"?
@WilliamAM436 ай бұрын
Your cell phone camera put in selfie mode held flat up to the game camera will then give you a picture on the cell phone of what the game camera will then be taking pictures of when it goes off later. You use the cell phone camera to adjust the game camera's picture frame to where you want. Hope that helps.
@johneberhart40626 ай бұрын
@@WilliamAM43 Yes, what William said. Concerning the 12:00, I never take a cell cam with me and place it during a hunt. That video was taken out of season for the sole purpose of making a vid about putting cameras up higher and out of a deer's peripheral. I wasn't wearing ScentLok so it obviously wasn't during a hunt.
@grinder8816 ай бұрын
@@WilliamAM43 It does and thanks. I think he meant to be saying cell phone camera instead of saying cell camera.

Private land great you own it do what you want. Public stop people think because you have a camera you own that spot and before long there are cameras and stands. Just sh#t everywhere take in what you need then take it back out.

@johneberhart40626 ай бұрын
To some extent I agree with you Ken. So is looking at online aerial and topo photos because you no longer have to find islands in swamps while scouting on foot, just look online to find anything on public lands. In my opinion so are crossbows for non-handicapped hunters. You could also make similar arguments about rangefinders, lit pins on bows, thermal imaging units to find dead deer after dark or to check an area for deer after dark before getting out of your tree, or the fake hunting done on TV properties, the list can go on and on. Progression is not always the best thing for an activity.

It's like any tool just because you get pics doesn't mean you definitely get the deer you. Using a cam only helps you narrow down an area to where the deer has been
