Good tutorial plan to do my 2018 Jeep G/C 3.6L.. Remind people to keep their oil and filter store receipts along with a log of the mileage changes were done at to keep the warranty valid and/or for proof of maintenance at trade in time. BTW most people may not have a 15/16 or 24mm socket in a basic wrench set, so the best place to pick up a dirt cheap 15/16 size 3/8 drive socket is Home Depot got one today for $2.45 + tax for a Husky brand with a lifetime warranty.

After starting the car to check for leaks it would be better to check the drain plug area for drips before replacing the underside plastic cover. If the cover is replaced before checking for leaks a potential leak issue could be hidden by the cover. Be sure to turn the engine off before replacing the plastic cover. Invest in a vacuum oil extractor. Not only does it get 99% of the old oil (97% oil drain via plug), it's less problematic. Unscrewing and screwing that oil drain plug over time becomes an issue. Evac from the top and keep the plug sealed. 👌 They're pretty cheap on Amazon.

Ok so I have a 2017 dodge charger with a 3.6l vvt engine (unsure if that makes a difference) it seems like the drain plug is almost in the middle of the charger, atleast the same spot o found the drain it says only to loosen to drain oil. Only issue is that it looks like something is supposed to go into the slot to open it. Is there a special tool for that?
@MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
The VVT stands for variable valve timing and they all have that but that's what that stands for. That is very interesting about the drain. Are you the original owner? And does it look like it has a little lever on it? From how you described it it sound like a Fumoto oil drain valve. Depending on what it is you shouldn't need a special tool. @MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
@@rackcauser It wont be the one at the front. Look up fumoto oil drain valve and see it it looks something like that because if it has the skid plate removed and it was a fleet car I am betting it has something like that for faster service times and that's why the skid plate is missing also. If you are able to get pictures send them to me. I would recommend getting another skid plate that way it will have a bit more protection under the vehicle.

can you explain something to me, My indicator was at 1 percent, I never wait long to change my oil but this time I did unfortunately , I was gonna have my friend show me how to do the oil change myself in a few days, so I just added a quart of oil till then. after adding the quart, it still read only one percent, which doesn't make sense considering it takes 6 quarts, so one quart would bump the percentage up a bit. Does this indicator just guesstimate the percentage based on miles? Is it not really measuring how much oil is left? Thats bullshit if thats the case, I got an oil change at dodge and it was making weird noises afterwards and now I'm wondering if they never really changed any oil and just reset the indicator, I never checked myself considering I didn't think I was getting screwed but a friend who works for ford did tell me sometimes these places don't actually change the oil. Please give me some info so I can avoiding ruining my engine thanks
@MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
Hey There Unfortunately it is only based off of miles and it doesn't actually read the oil. I would recommend getting it changed as soon as you are able to. How meany miles do you have on your oil? I have heard about dealerships doing that and I hope in your case they didn't do that to you!
@heythere69836 жыл бұрын
well I got the car with about 34000 miles and got an oil change at Dodge at about 35000 now its a little past 40 something I forget what exactly right now to be honest But if it was reset at 35000 then maybe about 6000 miles or 7000 miles on the oil, Im not positive, you think if missing an oil change interval ( if it wasn't properly changed when I took it in ) can be super bad? Yeah I hope they didn't, it really angers me because I want to keep this car as long as possible and would have I known something so simple, I would have been WAY more cautious, I appreciate the response I won't ever make that mistake again. They were telling me some other weird noises when I took it in where normal too, I had another charger, that never made the noise, they told me they fixed it and it was still there then they said it was normal so I wouldn't be surprised if they would do something shady considering they were useless to begin with lol.
@MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
Hey There I think you would be ok (for a short time) some people run synthetic oil for 10,000 miles and that what new vehicles run... me personally I won't and will never do that I always like changing it at 3,000 miles but I do have people tell me I am wasting money doing that. I see it as cheep insurance just knowing it's always running fresh oil and it gives you a chance to check everything else out at the time of doing the oil change just so if something is wrong you catch it quick. What kind of weird noise is it making? That is a huge bummer that they have treated you like that and what sounds like to me just telling you what you want to hear!
@heythere69836 жыл бұрын
The sound comes from the drivers side of the engine, hard to describe, kind of a "da da da da da da da da da da" steady sound, not high pitched or squealy, not very loud either but audible if you just listen without anything else going on in the car. I was under the impression they don't use synthetic at the dealer or as the car comes but you can switch to it, which I plan to. Yeah I tend to do it every 3000 but this time I was swamped with so much I let it slip. -In 2 days I'm getting it changed, you're saying if I do it soon ill be alright or are you saying the cars performance will be alright in general for a little then go downhill regardless if I get the oil change soon? thanks again
@MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
Hey There That's strange that it makes that noise. Ok yeah they might not do a full synthetic oil unless you pay for it. That's good to hear that you have an appointment for it. Your car will be ok and it's not going to hurt it's preformance or longevity. You are welcome!

@@MeanBee392 gotcha so good oil clean better and gets darker...meaning I'm using the good stuff.
@MeanBee3925 жыл бұрын
Yes that is true. You are using a good brand but it you were using an off brand it might have to much detergents in it and that can be bad by not offering enough lubrication but you don't need to worry about that using Castrol that is a good repeatable brand.

What is the torque on the oil filter cover ?
@MeanBee3924 жыл бұрын

my oil cap on my 2012 charger says 5w30 for oil weight. But everyone is using what I have seen and the manual says 5w20. I'm just confused which one i actually should use. I mean I have been going off what the oil cap says over the past couple of oil changes. Just wondering what your thoughts are on it
@MeanBee3925 жыл бұрын
I think that is the difference in the years of the cars engines. I would recommend using what the cap and owners manual says for your car. Manufactures change oil recommendations every few years (it seams like) but to keep up with emissions and fuel mileage. Hopefully this is helpful to you. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@MeanBee392 yes I see that I re looked at the manual and I guess I got crossed eyed or something,lol one question I have and seen other people have as well do the pentastar oil pressure run high(70's-80's) until the engine/oil warm up more and than drop to a more normal pressure(30's-40's) if that's common occurence
@MeanBee3926 жыл бұрын
Kevin Gemar lol no problem it happens! Yes they will run a higher oil pressure when the engine is cold and it will slowly fall when it warms up because of the viscosity of the oil reacting to the different temps.
