He's the best: humble, respectful and always let's the interviewee expose their views. He's smart too, because he then takes what he agrees on and uses it on his trainees and himself. And let's give some love to Pascal too, because he always edits the videos so nicely for us to enjoy.

Steve probably filmed himself nodding and smiling occasionally for 30 seconds and then just put it on a loop while he went out to catch a movie, knowing Lyle wouldn't notice. But in all honesty, great vid. With someone like Lyle, it's better to just let him hold court since he has so much to say and doesn't really need prompts

Comment for Lyle next time you talk to him, he mentions here that expecting to do too many shoulder exercises is a huge problem (bench, incline, press) yet I just want to note that his power day workout from his ultimate diet 2.0 includes flat bench, incline bench, close grip bench, and military press, all in the same full body workout (with bent over laterals as well for rear). Would he now recommend a different approach to that workout? Swapping out some of the exercises that affect the anterior delt for others (I.e swap out close grip for lying extensions?)

That's an interesting question I cannot answer of course. - Coach Pascal
@KindlingEffect6 жыл бұрын
Someone asked your question on his group (basically copy pasted your question). Here's his reply: "Maybe, but it's just one workout. The difficulty being that isolation movements, by and large, don't lend themselves to low reps safely. Good luck doing 5's on incline DB flye or something. I've done them on a lateral raise machine (maybe pec deck) but your technique has to be perfect."

”Heavy sets of chins not the same as curls” That was a miss, no? I am pretty sure weighted chin ups do hit the biceps harder than curls, but could be wrong.
@strengtics59126 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a miss, chin up is a compound movement so it involves biceps as well as other muscle groups, so the total intensity on the biceps would be smaller than when you focus primarily on the bicep with curls. At least how I understood that 🤷♂️
@algroc29296 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. You should be able to tell after a set of chins to failure vs a set of barbell curls to failure. Shit, make it a machine curl if you want. Even then you can torch the biceps much more efficiently than with chins. Chins are great, though, but it was an either/or statement of optimality
@ReviveStronger6 жыл бұрын
Yes, chin ups do hit the biceps hard but it's still a back movement. If you're mostly pulling with your arms, you're missing out on a lot of back work - Coach Pascal

Is it not weird for you saying Lyle does goes against what Mike Israetel preaches ? They both understand the principles and deviate from there but out of everyone in this crowd I feel they differentiate the most. Anyways love Lyle and mike stuff just gets a little confusing
@realfinepork73086 жыл бұрын
Not that dissimilar, though, they both insist on undulation of some training variables within a microcycle (week), progression within a mesocycle with a deload at the end and specialization mesos for hypertrophy. Specific recommendation are different, but conceptually very similar.
@Hoop6396 жыл бұрын
Real Fine Pork very true, but I’ve heard Lyle bash mikes set progression through the meso multiple times and he preaches intensity as the primary driver in lots of podcasts and mike says volumes king and intensities queen. It seems like mike has a more aggressive volume ramping approach followed by a deload then repeat which differs slightly
@realfinepork73086 жыл бұрын
@@Hoop639 yes, of course different people would favor different strategies, and this is where the actual coaching parts come in
@Hoop6396 жыл бұрын
Real Fine Pork I agree 100% apply the basic principles then how you deviate from that is where each coach becomes unique. Thats where it’s best to try different strategies in different blocks to see what works best individually
