This is indeed how UK insurance works, if you leave it unlocked OR you use any other lock, they will void your claim. They know exactly how many people can pick the lock (few thousand) and the chances it will be picked, and then they have an Actuary team run the numbers. Which keeps premiums low. I wonder if LPL can just look at a key and already have his whole picking strategy figured out before the timer starts. hmm...

I like that your videos are short and to the point. Not trying to milk 10 min+ for the ads or anything. I have youtube premium so it doesn't matter to me, I just hate vids with tons of "filler" to get to the minute mark

I cant believe he recommended 'security through obscurity'
@vojtechstrnad14 жыл бұрын
Security through obscurity obviously doesn't work if the lock is supposed to be mass-produced, but if the lock itself is very rare, the cost of finding out how it works is not likely going to pay off for thieves. That said, security through obscurity should never be the only security mechanism, and that's not the case here as 30 seconds to pick a lock is still well above average for LPL.

If it requires tools already more specialized than general lock picking tools already are, I'd feel perfectly safe using it to secure my valuables. The locks that scare me are the ones that can be opened with easily obtainable/makeable tools. Video 1222 is pretty much a perfect example of a worst-case scenario; all you need is a blunt object to hit it with.

@@bgood2010 if I was trying to pick it lol I would agree, as it might take me a few months also, however, my impatience would get the better of me before long, out the angle grinder would come, not many locks can resist the gentle touch of a grinder lol

Isn't a skeletonized key basically the same as a turning tool? You're not complaining when he's using a wiper insert as a turning tool, do you?
@ppeppe4 жыл бұрын
Yes, just a turning tool. Its just a ground down key with flattened shaft an most of key ground away so just the farthest part remains to throw the bolt.
