The final of a 3 part series featuring abandoned mines on Vancouver island. Located on the Jordan River a huge collapse in the Sunroe mine actually swallowed all the water from the river! This mine operated from 1968- 1974.

This is a really cool mine and a good video, thanks for taking us along Frank! I will say that I like your videos better when you're either solo or leading a group so the viewer sees everything first, as you do. That gives a better perspective or 'feel' of exploring I think.

The one advantage of having people in a shot it that you can tell how big things are and which way is up!
@johnbluebeard43556 жыл бұрын
@@exploringabandonedmines I really like having other people in some shots exactly because of that size and direction context. In fact, I've liked all the vids you've done with others, every bit as much as the solos. I hear what Mister510 is saying, though. Something about this video had more of a group tour feel to it. Maybe because more of the time was spent on group discussions? I don't know. Maybe it was because it had less of an "abandoned mine" feel to it-- the "tunnels" were mostly 25 feet wide and people were walking 4 abreast and there was lots of spray paint graffitti and leftover climbing equipment?? Who knows. Anyways, good video.

Oh my you guys really had to go through the hoops to get in that mine; crossing rivers and climbing rocks. That was certainly an exciting exploration, of a very large mine. I wonder why all that climbing gear was just left behind like that - strange. Loved the commentary Frank a great mix of, facts, humour and some sound safety advice. Thank you 😀 👍 🎄

There must have been some sort of project that was suddenly cancelled for some reason?

From what I understand the mine was for sale and they were attempting to search and see of they could re-open it

How cool is that--nice big mine! Too bad about the water, it would have been interesting to see the rest of it. That cave cricket was beautiful--what on Earth do they eat down there, doesn't seem like there'd be anything for them to eat down there. Thanks for taking us down, Frank, and merry Christmas!

Abyss. This one dwarfed all of u & yr torches. When u can't hear where the rock or block lands & u peer upward & it just fades way off into inky blackness above u know to recheck equipment & step lightly, as the margin for error has just shrunken dramatically. This behemoth swallowed a freaking river! Some dizzying shots thruout - quite the explore, Frank!

Do you know if this mine was depleted or if there are reserves left?
@exploringabandonedmines6 жыл бұрын
Almost all mines are shut down because of depleted ore bodies...……..or at least they are no longer profitable to mine.

Seems to be several sets of survey marks in the mine. I wonder if someone thinks there is something worth keeping rights to. Great place!
@exploringabandonedmines6 жыл бұрын
It seems common in a lot of mines. Junior mining companies do that all the time.
@front27606 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank.These ore passes,the deep ones.Do they start at the bottom and blast there way up?Do they work off ladders then?And how would they hold the drills then?Shame about the sounds though,still great show.
@exploringabandonedmines6 жыл бұрын
It depends......in those large declines where they had a trackless operation they would work their way down. If they have a main haul level with stopes above they would work their way up. If they discovered a showing at the surface they would chase the vein down.
@Crewsy6 жыл бұрын
Seems like you should have been able to see so much more considering how big the passageways are but it’s a cool mine nonetheless. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Have been climbing for a long time and i have always use the grigri both the second and third(yours) gen if it doesn't feed well ur mostly using it wrong :) there a rope diameter that work better to its best from 10.5 to 8.5 but i find that over 10 mm its a bit catchy if you've got an old rope
@exploringabandonedmines5 жыл бұрын
We use 11mm

i know its not your life you put at risk but when there is an anchor there at the top to use and one of your team crew do not use it they are asking for trouble ! ( was he just looking good up there :) i would have clipped on 20 feet fall will strand you up a mountain it would have turned into a right emergency with air sea rescue coming out

When I first saw ypo taking a dog into a mine I said to myself what kind of idiot would even consider that a good idea. Well, now I know. One who would let a loyal friend fall 800 feet to a terrible death. DVS

I live in bc, sorry to say that I do not know any mines that are around campbell river, I am a computer gamer, I do not get out often, though I am building a rc tiger tank to chase away raccoons, they killed a few chickens this year, it shoots bb pellets,. I wonder how well it would work in a mine, all it needs is a camera
