Thanks for video! Glad to see v3 Xeon getting some love. Some tips - you can undervolt this CPU with modified EFI driver, bringing it to 3.3 GHz on all cores even under heavy load, simultaniously making it consume less power and making it cooler. Also that particular motherboard (X99-TF) have newer BIOS version with memory timings & memory voltage control. The best CPUs for your dollar in my opinion in this range for gaming are the E5 1660 V3, E5 2667 V3 and E5 2620/30 V3 (for extreme budget builds)... After the first two 8 core rockets I'd put the E5 2678 V3 talked about in this video. The E5 1650 V3, E5 1660 V3 and E5 1680 V3 have unlocked multipliers and will run 4ghz all day on air cooling.
@andremesq4 жыл бұрын
@@thomassmith4999 Yeah, but the thing with those is that I'm finding hard to justify the prices they are going for (1650, 1660, 2667) when you look at the ryzens for that same price tag. The 2620/30 has the appeal of a lower price, and the higher core count ones have the uniqueness of those extra cores for things other then gaming. I've been curious of how the 14 core 2683 would perform since Brian mentioned it a few years back when it costed over $400... you can get one for less then $120 now. If I ever come across a sweet deal on a quality x99 board I may venture into it just for the sake of experimentation.
@thomassmith49994 жыл бұрын
@@andremesq Looks like current pricing on the 2683 is the same as the 1660. Doesn't look like much between them in multicore benchmarks but the 1660 is much faster on single core so would feel a lot snappier. I cant see games utilising more than 8 cores anytime soon. All the machines I have are cheap used Workstations so Ryzen isn't in my picture at all. My current thing I'm working on is a Dell T5810 as they have started coming onto the surplus market for cheap. You can do the all core turbo bios hack on them also. The next Workstation I get will be a dual cpu Lenovo P900, I'm just waiting for the prices to drop on those. I have some older Westmere dual Xeon machines and you still can get great performance out of them IF you are running dual high clocked cpus, Like X5687, X5680, X5690's.. Stuff like that. But the power consumption is insane compared to these more modern Xeons. Those Westmeres are too old now to keep up with modern GPUs in a single cpu system.
@andremesq4 жыл бұрын
@@thomassmith4999 Sure the 1660 would be a better bet for gaming, and probably for almost everything else. But since I'd have to do a full build I'd rather go the Ryzen route in that case I think. The 2683 would be more of a hobbyist/curiosity thing But it is interesting you have brought up the Westmeres because I just got a reply and it seems like I'll be picking up an Asus x58 board today for a sweet sweet deal... What a blast from the past. Had this very same CPU back in late 2015. Suffice to say, that didn't last long. My use back the primarily consisted of gaming and photoshop and illustrator, with slight bit of after effects thrown in the mix if i had to make animated banners and whatnot. Yeah, this CPU didn't last long, it was a horrible match for my use case, given that all of it preferred single thread performance, which this thing severely lacked. Upgraded to a 6700k late 2016 which ended up being considerably faster for everything i was doing. High core count, cheap price does not necessarily equal good value, that's what this learning experience taught me. Don't make my mistake and be fooled to think the same.

Will dual channel be much performance loss compared to quad? Want 8 cores (16 treads), I think new games will "need" that and good for multitasking. But lower clocks? 1680v2/v3 worth it and can it overclock enough on Chinese mb's? 4,2-4,7ghz would be nice! Or better save up and get a (used?) Ryzen 1700/2700/3600(3700), new b450/b550 and ddr4.. Costs some $200-300 extra new (here in Sweden) and from aliexpress we get $20-50 extra tax/customs fees.. Upgrade/future-proof and all that. What is the sound like in these mb's? much worse than newer realtek alc1200? Thinking that 4-6 extra cores even on old architecture would be "good enough" for me with a rx570 4gb (later rx5700xt).. I don't game that much and am okey with medium settings and max 60-70fps, nice enough on a 4k 60hz 50" tv. No fps or fast online game for me, prefer rpg and open world story based slower games like the witcher 2/3 etc. Your thoughts please? Hey man, I love your vids, but as many games are not optimized for more than 6 cores, why do you enable hyper-threading for 12 cores this means 24 threads, and will likely deliver lower performance than without hyper-threading?

Could you test this 2678 v3 agaisnt the similarly-speced 2658 v3 and see if that unlockable multiplier is worth the extra $40? Or maybe try that dual socket "X99" motherboard (which should be C612)? I'd be really interested in both these videos :)

I like this CPU, looking for a system that can game (with an RX580), stream, record, encode and upload to KZbin with minimal stress. I know it can play everything I need it to, thinking of creating 3x 4 core/32GB VM's for most of the load but also having and all core option for heavy editing purposes. Looking at this chip with an X99F8 board. Ultimately I would love to go dual socket but I find the current crop of X99D's a bit lacking. I also havy my main Ryzen 5 3600X, GTX1660TI I could play on and send it via Elgato to the Xeon to dedicate more cores to encoding if that's a better option. One (or 2) of these chips is definitely in my future just need to settle on how to run it.

May I know if buying used/refurbished motherboards or CPUs is a good idea?
@psionx14 жыл бұрын
$167.83 may be cheap for a xeon motherboard but it's no budget option when newer boards can be found for less than $80. even if the ram is cheaper it's also slower and you take a big performance hit for running slow ram on heavily multithreaded systems.

Like the xeon set up with a rx 5700 xt encoding a 15 min movie in 1080p in h.264 or h.265 in Da Vinci resolve or doing that while also playing a game? The Aussie $ is currently in the toilet, so I won't be buying anything for the next 6 months until the global situation settles down, and the USA looks like it's only just starting it's problems.

Saw a video from another channel which went through multiple Xeon V3s, I say the 2620 v3 takes it. More cores could be nice for rendering for hours daily but the 2620's performance in games is not far from the more expensive, multi core Xeons

E5-1650v2 is another good prospect. I rescued an older HP z620 from heading to the dumpster - the c602 chipset isn't sexy like the x79, but it'll still perform.

So the motherboards, Jingsha, HUananzhi or Killsre BIOS.... can they bifuricate? One of the compelling reasons for one of these sets is the cost of course, but the pcie lanes. Adding more storage via nvme adapters is also compelling. Any thoughts there?

Cool! But did you know that you can get the maximum turbo multiplier at all times if you undervolt the CPU? There are modded BIOSes that can lower the CPU voltage up to 100 mV, so the TDP won't be reached as often. If you already need to do the Turbo Unlock mod then the undervolt one is a must! Best regards!

I made my order before you made this video, couldn't wait anymore, now doing the wait. I'm wondering if you could be willing to do a test on the released Jingsha Dual 2011-3 motherboard, it supports the E5-2678 V3, I wish I had known about it before I bought the huananzhi motherboard because I could have started with 1 CPU and then later add in a second 2678. Through other videos I've seen looks like the 2678 v3 is on par with the Ryzen 2700X. However I am excited because of the following reasons: 1. I currently have a Am4 motherboard that supports the 3950X (it's using the 2400G right now), so when prices go down on the 3950X I can swap that in. 2. I will be getting the Jingsha motherboard (have to get a new case too though) and start with one 2678 V3 and then through other videos I've seen, it looks like the DUAL/TWO e5-2678 v3 is close to performance in terms with the 1950X or 2950X(possibly 2970X). So later I can just get another 2678 V3 and add it in. 3. As you've mentioned, once the e5-2699 v3 goes down in price, I can just buy two of those and swap them with the 2678 v3 on the jingsha and I would get performance that could exceed the 3950x, but potentially cheaper, and the 2678 could just go back to the huananzhi motherboard (Or I could mix one 2678 with the 2699 on the Jinsha Motherboard if it supports mixing those two). It's literally win win, good thing I didn't go for the i9's and went for AMD and Xeons, so much upgradeable paths for a low/good price, thanks man! P.S. here's the Jingsha Dual CPU motherboard if you're interested. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000619561176.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.7c103c00FIrDht&mp=1

Love your channel bro. I'm all about the cheap power. Right now I only have one computer. It uses a pair of E5-2680's and 128 gigs of ECC DDR3 1600 ram. I built this for dirt cheap. You gotta love Ali Express. Its my gaming rig, my emby server, (I don't like plex) my 4k editing rig, my disc ripper, and so on. This thing is a PURE WORK HORSE and lighting fast at anything that likes many cores. Its not that great at single core stuff, but plenty good enough. You don't build dual xeon behemoths if single core performance is priority anyway. Now after seeing this video, I'm going back to the well and start saving for a second box. I want to offload my media server to a dedicated machine.
