Whether it's a 12 horsepower, 13 horsepower, 14 horsepower 14.5 horsepower, 15 horsepower. Rhe debate continues, is there actually any difference in power between any of those engines? If there are any experts on this out there watching please weigh-in or ex Briggs employees, however in the years I've been working on these engines, no, I do not believe there is any difference. They are all 28 cubic inch, 465cc, same ratings. The only difference I believe they're actually was, is where the manufacturer set the RPM, which is adjustable on all of them. There are no differences in parts or anything else asides from the 12 vs. 13 horse Flathead the, 13 horse does have a larger flywheel screen, does the 13 have more power the 12? It's the only one with a difference. That's the only difference out of all of them, aside from that even those two are 28 cubic inch, 465cc engines. Where is the difference? There are none, it was a numbers game in selling the machines. There's a known lawsuit for over rating them and even after that I'm still seeing it on some of the newer engines on lawn tractors. 14 HP end up or overhead valve vs. Flathead, but that's just a design difference, not a difference when it comes to power. Feel free to weigh in on the discussion, I'd like to hear other people's opinions, as well as any actual knowledge on the topic.
