I was going to buy a Tundra but the dealerships are just garbage. They are treating this truck as something that was sent from heaven. For example, the dealership told me that they are not going to charge me over the MSRB. When I was going to sign the papers, there was something called “protection package” and how much there were asking for this package? $8500 for only ceramic coating. I shopped around but all of them were like that. Keep in mind I was looking the SR5.

They call it protection package, appearance package where they make you feel like you're getting something but very overpriced. Some don't give you anything and call it market adjustments. What ever they call it, just get a contract in front of you and negotiate out the door number (currently bare minimum is window sticker + doc & dealer fees ). Good luck!

Our family has had 3 tundras we do like them but the dealership is ridiculous. We leased the last two and dropped a deposit on a pro, when we asked about when it will be ready they literally laughed out loud then said good luck. It’s been a year now. They told us they will try to get a truck that will be close because they can’t guarantee pros at all. They currently have a limited being made and said that was all they have available. Even after our deposit from a year ago. It’s just pathetic. Of course the limited has chrome all over and we know chrome has been out for years. Ugh

The one thing I would suggest to everyone is NEVER buy a new design model of a vehicle no matter the manufacturer. I’m suggest waiting two to three full year models. It’s like they release vehicle knowing it needs upgrades and they will come in later year models. I purchased a 21 year model of my vehicle and there were so many things missing and didn’t make sense. Now basically all of my complaints have been solved in the new 23 model.

Personally I work for a land surveyor in Ontario Canada...I get paid to use my own truck for work (a 2005 Silverado with 240k miles). I watch these videos because I'm a car guy and interested in trucks but if I was to buy a new truck for work, my mileage cheque would pay for half my truck payment. With the old one it pays for all repairs and a decent raise on top of what I made before I bought the truck from the boss. I think trucks are extremely overpriced now, but it's mostly because of all the office workers driving trucks they don't need.

According to Fuelly, the new Tundra is getting 2.5 mpg better than the last gen Tundra. That number will get even smaller as an equal percentage of people lift and put bigger tires on the gen 3.

I think that the biggest issue with the new truck because of the turbos is that the fuel economy will depend a lot of who is driving it. My wife has a lead foot and when she drove our vehicles, the fuel economy was 20 - 25% below the sticker except for our 2nd gen Tundra, which is 13.9 MPG vs 14 MPG. I bet that if we had the 2022 Tundra, the MPG would have been worse than the MPG we had on the 2nd gen.

At the dealership I was buying the 21sr5 and the seller said the new tundra with the v6 is better at towing . I have a 27 foot rv. I said no thanks I prefer the old v8 . Paid 43k in 2022 for the 21 sr5 I’m happy I think it’s a more solid truck also it has way more space in and out compared to the 22. Sun roof had it in my old car used it like 2 times unecessary option. Rider aids don’t need them. Powered mirrors who cares . I think the major issue is that the Tundra was hyped up so much in anticipation for it, that people's expectations were through the roof. Where Toyota dropped the ball is after 15 yrs to develop the new gen, they essentially caught up; but they still delivered a solid truck that is very capable. Now in a few years, it'll be outdated comparatively again; so Toyota would have to provide a major refresh to remain competitive. Just seems like consumer expectations were set extremely high, combined with massive changes from the last gen, that a lot of people are quick to hate on it.

This is an excellent video. A real truck USER talking about issues with this truck. All his comments about the truck are bang on . Toyota has lost direction with the Tundra. When the full size Tundra was introduced in 2007 it was all about it being a truck for work. Now it's a mishmash of luxury and weekend work truck. Yes I'm a Tundra owner that uses his 2007 SR5 for work for that last 15 years. The vibration problems existed on the 2007 + models as well. I'm surprised they are still having the same problem given the new rear suspension and new frame design. Great video !

Thanks!! I just bought a used 2017 SR5 club cab TDR because I just want a truck not a spaceship. ;) while watching the video it seemed that the SR5 cabin noise was much quieter than the limited model, not sure if it was because the Limited model had added engine noise?? I agree also about the speakered in engine sounds. very dumb. put the engineering efforts to something more important/mature.

You know I am sorry. I just don't like a p/u truck without a V8. Yeah, my Titan V8 doesn't get great gas mileage but I will never worry about turbos going bad and the big expense of repair. V8s paired with a basic auto transmission (mine has 4 speed with overdrive and tow mode) is a perfect set up. I am not knocking this truck but my advice is buy a V8 p/u truck if you need one before they disappear.

Funny thing also about the hesitation “with the turbo”, and Eco mode. My naturally aspirated RX350 does the same thing in Eco mode! I even finally demonstrated and sold my non-car-oriented wife on that fact being reality. We only drive it in Sport or Normal now. 95% of the time in Normal mode. It’s a Toyota product family issue, perhaps.

An older gentleman stopped in with his 1st gen tundra. We started talk about the fuel milage. He told me and the sales person, that he gets 18 plus miles per gallon in his tundra. He says the key or trick is to keep RPM under 2000. Tried it, WOW it's pretty hard to do. I now call driving around under 2k, paw pawing cause you go really slow!!!! LOL!!! Great video and thank you for giving us so many insights on the trucks. I feel you are doing a great job bringing to light issues that might be overlooked by the engineers. I would really love a deeper understanding of the Cargo carrying capacity differences. I feel there needs to be more investigatory journalism on the vast differences in numbers among all manufacturers. The numbers are too low on all vehicles and not how people use the vehicles. The RV community is always in debates on tow vehicles and the size of the trailers using the cargo-carrying capacity.

Wheelbase spacing plays a real key that ride quality. My quad cab long bed 3500 SRW cummins rode horrible on concrete like that so I'm not shocked that he has similar issues with his truck. I recognize the suspension between the two is a lot different but I believe the biggest issue is the sizing of the pieces that make up the road and I actually live in the same town so I was on the same roads as him. Interested to see how my Tundra does when I get it. I ordered the crewcab with the 6.5 foot bed.

I've been researching the 3rd gen Tundra heavily and am trying to decide between it and an F150 to replace our '21 Silverado. The bed and cab on the Silverado is really functional, but the build quality and powertrain is pretty awful (our 5.3 had lifter failure at 585 miles and I have to drive in L7 to disable DFM to improve drivability, the 8-speed slams into 2nd gear when cold and clunks when you go on/off throttle at cruising speeds and come to a stop, and the 3.23 rear end is useless for slow speed maneuvering with a trailer). Either 3.5 TTV6 option seems to be a big improvement over what I have, paired with a 10-speed and better rear end ratios, and you can get the bed step as a factory accessory on the Toyota as well as aftermarket front tow hooks. My conclusion on the crew cab Toyota's back seat is you have less flexibility with large item storage, but you have tons of small item storage under and behind the seat, whereas our Silverado is basically a miniature cargo van with the seat folded up, but I keep a small plastic tote in the bed for straps, jumper cables, etc.

Other coworkers have RAM's and Ford's, they also wind up at the dealership a few times a year for random issues. I've always had Honda or Toyota cars and never needed a dealership visit. If you plan on keeping your new truck past 60K miles then a Tundra is really the only thing to consider. If you have to go domestic then I’d go with a diesel hands down. RAM and GM make a great 3L diesel. Regarding Ford, the 5L and the Lightning (if you can find it) is the only thing I’d consider Wish Toyota paid more attention to bed access but I’m a big fan of that composite bed, don’t forget to get the bed step if you get a Tundra.

Problem with my Tundra is that its a bigger tacoma. Nothing except for the actual size when parking feels full sized. The 2009 double cab my father had was much bigger inside than my sr5 fully loaded crewmax including the additional seating for a total of six people and about the same storage space, much more floor space with the rear seats up etc. etc. Other than the usefullness of the "full size" and the stupid bumper in the back that removes the steppin ability of the bed the truck is great. Feels like my wifes 21 highlander with less seating and more acceleration.

44:30 - My 2012 Tundra crewmax with the rock warrior package would buck back and forth so badly on those separated concrete highways that it would make me seasick, I would literally feel like I had to throw up after 10 or 15 minutes of that and was ultimately why I traded that truck in for a 4runner in 2017. I went back to a Tundra in 2020, a TRD Pro with the Fox suspension, it's nowhere near as bad, but still not as smooth as the 4 runner was on those concrete slab roads.

The Limited TRD Off Road 5.5 bed rode much better but still not the greatest! The Air Suspension test drive they can keep. 19mpg combined for a truck that'll tow 9000#....sounds like the powertrain is solid. I think that's great. Most 2500 diesels won't do that. Good video Tim of a previous Tundra owner and I think he sums it up. I went from a solid '08 to an '18 with quality control issues. Mostly minor, but very annoying on a new truck. One of those are rusted seat rails within 4 months of purchase. Toyota told me to take a hike as it was obviously an "unprotected metal surface". Rust inside the cab of a new truck?? Not impressed. Like you, I feel overall it's still a great truck, but Toyota lost brownie points. Too bad.

Crew 5.5 SR5, same vibration from rear. Likely rear shock dampening is different from SR5 to other trim models , know it’s not your longer bed\ wheelbase as the issue , more likely a byproduct of the trim causing rear “jumpy” feeling.
