the comments here are hilarious. the kid is pretty good and nick is being a good sport and competing with him. obviously the kid would get destroyed in a real match, but it's good to see nick being serious with him. the kid is very likely a highly ranked player in his age group in his region. this must be an awesome experience for the kid.

Big deal. It’s zero sacrifice for Nick. Anyone does this. Hitting balls is fun. Plus, it sounds like it’s a requirement of the tournament. He would be better off not setting such a poor example for sportsmanship when he plays. He’s a dick. Even Hitler was nice to kids. Sorry but smashing the ball towards him and nearly hitting him and when the boy was at the net nearly every shot was with much pace towards his body so in which way this is normal ... in my eyes zero respect. Doesn't even matter if you're a Nick fan or not in this situation. Being a tennis player and getting to have a somewhat serious practice session with a top pro is an absolute dream. Looks way more fun than if Nick had played nice and just pushed every ball back. I'd love to be on the other end of the court and get to see what one of those trademark monster forehands looks like whizzing past me for a winner.

(3/9/20) - Obviously, I'm disappointed about IW being cancelled, as I was planning on being there another 4 days. Thanks to everyone who left comments over the past month or so listing players they want to see videos of. I've kept track of them all and will keep them in mind in the future, although at this point who knows what's going to happen to other tournaments later this year. I remember back in the day, Mike Tyson used to do similar sessions where you could do a few rounds with him on his training days. I was a small 14 year old at the time and was knocked out by a clean right hook in the first 20 seconds, but what a thrill that was! Even the surgeons stitching my head back on agreed that it was well worth the hospital bills. Great times

He respects them enough to not only hit at them well above the level they're probably used to, but to laugh, joke and banter with them too, and compliments their shots all the time. Hitting with a pro is probably intended to just be a publicity thing to get the kids interested and star-struck, but playing 'real' points rather than just hitting back will probably mean those kids improve their tennis as a result, too

He did it on purpose and the kid wanted it because he's a good player. However, he's still a young player, and the opportunity to really get to see a pro send balls to him that he couldn't return reminds him of how much he must continue to practice to play on that level. Trust me, the young guy loved it!

It is really cool that Kyrgios played seriously against the kid. When I (NTRP 4.0) play against pros for money, I give them an incentive to play hard. I set a price for the match and tell them I will get a $1.00 discount for every point I win. I got a total of 3 points against Federico Coria, 7 against Martin Cuevas, 8 against Sekou Bangoura, and 14 against doubles-specialist Boris Arias
