His name is going to be right there with/above Enos Slaughter forever in STL World Series lore (remember, that's 11 titles and several losses). To almost lose the W.S. twice in two innings and have this guy save us from the first one of those and then put the walk of homer to end that craziest game in STL postseason history earns him cheers forever. Tenth anniversary this fall, hope we get a chance to cheer him when they can celebrate it in person.

@Elipsis150
@Elipsis150 3 жыл бұрын
Cardinals fan here. I think time heals all wounds. Harper's return was so soon that the hurt caused by his departure was still very fresh. Believe me, when Pujols left, Cardinals fans were PISSED at first. Had Pujols's return been as soon as Harper's return to DC, then Pujols would have been massively booed. But after several years, seeing how his career went on, and realizing the crippling effect that keeping him would have had on our team, we forgave him. Then when he finally returned, everyone was at peace.

@@offbrandguy101-7 The only time I've ever heard Cardinals fans booing someone on their own team is when there's a terrible performance going down. And it's gotta be pretty god-awful to get booed by the home crowd in STL. I can't think of a specific example if I'm honest, although that's not to say that we can't be critical of our squad. If we hover around .500 there's fans up in arms about firing coaches and how long the team will be in 'rebuild mode'.

My favorite story to tout about Cards Nation about my friend who's from Houston. Back in '04 he was in school at WashU, and having come from Houston, he was a helluvan Astros fan. Stros and Cards were still same division at this time, so the Stros came to Busch on WashU's night at the ballpark, and my friend got fully decked out in Astros gear ready to be the most obnoxious Stros fan ever, fully expecting the usual hate and vitriol from the hometown crowd in response to any opposing player or fan... However, at that game, one of the Stros players managed to dive over the side wall to catch a foul pop fly, and to my friend's utter astonishment, the Cards fans at Busch gave the Stros player a standing O just because it was such a good play and top notch effort. That was the day my buddy became a Cards fan...

@@jasonscott7988 Agree, certainly the most talented Cards team since 67-68 Cards. Coasted to best record in baseball, over 100 wins, but had to open WS on road with Boston getting home field advantage as a WC team due to that asinine All Star game rule. Boston on a roll, but Cards came close to winning G1. Might have been different if that Series opens with 2 games in Busch, a shame that 04 team didn't win WS especially after that epic NLCS vs Stros.

Matt was 15 after the Cards traded for him in 2009. 5 his typical number with Colorado and Oakland was obviously taken in St Louis. He switched to 7 after the season when he resigned and Mark Derosa left via free agency. So he wore 15 for somewhere around 60-70 games.

Those were good teams back then. I guess being from St Louis don't get why more teams\ fans don't do it. It sure seems to leave lasting impressions on players. We have been fortunate to grab quite a few on back end of careers for reasonable prices that give Cards solid yrs. Many of those players have choices, no trade clauses. Not saying only factor obviously

Holliday’s home run in his final at bat still gives me goosebumps. It’s just one of the raw, almost unexplainable moments that sports is so good at giving us. It makes no sense that he would come off the DL that day with a hand injury, go down 0-2 and then hit a bomb.

Warner kind of lost it a few years after SB and had injury issues. Pujols wanted to retire a Cardinal, and our cheap owner DeWallet only offeted him a 5 year contract, forcing him to FA. DeWallet simply didnt want to pay Albert his FMV after 11 of the greatest years in baseball history and 3 NL pennants and 2 World Series Championships. Sad and irritating.

Being at the fourth and final game of the 2004 World Series versus the Red Sox of course was devastating. However, I and countless other Cardinal fans went out of their way to congratulate Red Sox fans, After having waited 80 years to win the World Series. In fact, Busch Stadium opened their gates and welcomed in Red Sox fans who wanted to be there. Pretty much encapsulates the sportsmanship and class of Cardinal fans and the organization

I took my mom to the 5th game of an NLDS against the pirates a few years ago, and the crowd gave a standing ovation to Adam Wainwright just for coming out to stretch before the game. Hardly sat down the whole night as he got the shutout.
Greatest plays and games in St. Louis Cardinals baseball history.
