Only thing I can add is since you were already in there you should've changed the other axle seal. That way you start off fresh on both sides. As a former- retired mechanic, I always did everything in pairs. That way there was only a slim reoccurence to be a come back repair. Nice work, watching the fight on those drum screws makes me thankful for anti-sieze.

Great videos by the way. Hope you don't mind a little help with the brakes. If you notice that there is more brake shoe material on one shoe then the other. Primary and secondary. primary pad has less material then the secondary so the secondary shoe is the shoe that does more braking. that being said it looks like the shoes that were on the bus were placed in reverse orientation. while going forward the primary shoe (less material) contacts the drum and the drum pushes the primary into the secondary shoe the secondary shoe then gets wedged between the drum and the anchor point. that's why the secondary shoe has more material. Hard to tell from the video if there is an anchor at the bottom were the pads attach or a floating adjuster that connects both pads. So if an adjuster that connects both pads at the bottom then the primary or less material shoe should be facing forward. if the solid or stationary anchor is at the bottom and both shoes rest against it with the wheel cylinder at the top then it should use all secondary shoes and no primary shoes. Make sure they give you the correct shoes.

If you are going to do a chassis swap. Look for Chevy P30 Frame rails that match the body rails, they are flat, easy to find, and you can get parts easily. They came in Step vans, and motor homes.
@CountryBoyGasGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks! I was told that by someone else also! Thanks!
@robertscott82272 жыл бұрын
that was an oil bath bearing it didnt need packing . the inner lock nut rule of thumb when tightening 150lbs of torque back off to zero then 50lbs then back off then tighten a 1/4 turn put in your middle lock plate then tighten outer nut to 150lbs then fold over lock tabs this is how we did them in the shop. i was a class 8 truck tech for 32 yrs. now im retired . those outer counter sunk slotted screws usually come out easier with a impact driver and a little heat some time ya got to heat them up orange then back them out then when your going back together antiseive them .
@CountryBoyGasGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks Robert! That is the information I needed! I wasn't sure of the tightening process and the torque values. Hopefully packing the bearings with grease doesn't harm them. Thanks!
@rupe532 жыл бұрын
@@CountryBoyGasGarage ... been binge watching since I found the channel a few days ago. Some good stuff and not the usual "goombah moves" I usually see with so many guys. The grease will be ok and the diff oil will get out there once the rear is full, although I usually pump some in with an oil can during assembly. The tightening torque the other guy recommended is a little on the high side for these small vehicles but the idea is the same. Tighten maybe 100 lbs, spin the wheel, back off and tighten 50 lbs, spin the wheel. The last step, some will say to back off 1/8 turn. My personal touch is back off and tighten by finger, spin the wheel and tighten by finger again. IOW, get out all the slack you can feel by hand, then install your locking plates. This always worked for me over my 50 years in the field.
