I know this video is old.. but my Webasto's both of them thermo top's can be started wit h+12volts to one of the wires in the control harness and the heater will run in automatic mode as long as the +12 is high.. when you lower the +12V to the wire it will go through the shutdown sequence

How does this fair on an off road vehicle that's been playing in mud and at times submerged to the windows? I can't imagine that's good for the combustion chamber as it would fill up with water and mud through the intake and exhaust ports. Just wondering where they would mount this on a Land Rover as such a vehicle would be subjected to the aforementioned conditions.
@forenamesurname45762 жыл бұрын
It's mounted next to the power steering fluid reservoir. Yup they're renowned for failing due to crap/water in the combustion chamber. I wouldn't consider the disco 3 as a proper tough off roader... way too many computers and control modules which can't cope with water.

Hello! I am searching for a way to heat a ev van (e-deliver 9) it only has resistive heating and it kills the battery. All solutions so far are just put a separate airheatter in it. I want the heat to come from the cars own vents. But since maxus also makes diesel version for china markets im wondering if the electric heatter could be replaced with standard heaterblock from the diesel version. Then i would have webasto oilburner coolant heater with small water tank in the loop connected to regular water circulated heater for the car. This way i could preheat and make all heat come from the vans own vents and never use electric heating. The van is for people transport so it needs alot of heat for the whole car. The webasto should be programmed to heat water to 75c and then run minimum power until like 85c. It should run all the time without having to restart. The cars controls would work like in the diesel version and open the valve to the water heater.
@forenamesurname45762 ай бұрын
@@johannessieni I guess you could retrofit a heater matrix from a diesel model, it would be convenient for the heated air to come out of the factory vents. These thermo top v models ramp down once they reach 65C, they're not ideal for heating coolant for cabin heat. I think the Chinese clones that are available now reach 80C. On the other hand you could install a diesel air heater and run associated ductwork, a 5kw model uses 75mm duct, it's easy to work with. An air heater would be much faster to start than a hydronic system, if you preferred for the unit to take air from outside as opposed to recirculating air, you could run a duct from outside.
@johannessieni2 ай бұрын
@@forenamesurname4576 yes i want the car to be clean and not have any extra things inside. Also its own vents are perfect for melting the windshield. I want to build a system that basically works like running engine keeping the water warm at all times. Also some webasto installs on normal cars have the feature where they blow hot air in the cabin when preheating.

Any way this could drive some sort of Engine Heat Recovery System. Make electricity, hydraulic pressure, or driveshaft power using the heated water and/or steam? TEG would be the simplest, but may not do much, stirlings are complex and not very powerful (double check me on that), and steam may be hard to generate for a piston/turbine expander? Would be intresting to mess around with especially the TEGs they can be pretty cheap.

So no problems with the 5kw fuel pump? The webasto original pump should be around 34|44 ml, the 5kw chinese is 22 ml. I've tried a chinese 32 ml but I have a lot of white smoke and the unit turns off :(
@forenamesurname45762 ай бұрын
You're not the first to mention this, but oddly enough I've had no issues using a Chinese 22ml pump
@ZaladorarchАй бұрын
White smoke is usually the result of incomplete combustion, i.e. most of the diesel not being burnt. It's likely that your module isn't getting enough air. This could be due to soot deposits in the exhaust, burner chamber, or on the mesh in the burner. Air is blown over the mesh as it's saturated with diesel from the pump, while the glow plug heats everything so that it ignites. If the mesh is caked up with soot, you'll have less air and worse combustion. Likewise, if the burn chamber or exhaust is caked up, you're gonna have a hard time getting a flame and you'll likely see the "No flame" error. Luckily, it's not a hard fix. Try taking the heater apart, clearing the exhaust and burn chamber for any carbon deposits. Diesel works nice to break down the carbon, brake cleaner is great too.
@SimoneAlborghettiАй бұрын
@@Zaladorarch In my case by using an original webasto pump works perfectly. The burner was already clean, the problem was an incorrect fuel quantity supplied by the pump

@@robinsonlabs 40ml in 180 secs, what was the pulse rate PPM, the pulse rate for the dose pump on a Disco is a lot faster than some motors. MG Rover dose pump rate is 140 PPM, at this rate a genuine pump squirts out around 13ml per minute. I tried 2 cheap Chines ones, 140 PPM squirted out only 5ml, It fired up a Thermo top, but took ages to warm 4L water. So I can imagine one of these not putting enough fuel thropugh a Vevo fast enough for the flame detector. Pulse rate was taken from repair manual so 7hz-3min-40ml which it is! however, in a thermo top c in the burner there is a metal gauze that saturates and air is forced through it that atomizes fuel, in the V it is a venturi and there is no gauze so i think where the gauze would allough for minor diffs fluctuations this has to be a constant stream.

Hi, I haven't tried the converter yet. Going to try it hopefully later this week. I will be upload a video of it being tested. I used to have a TT z/c and it powered up without the need for an additional controller/converter. I like the TT V or VEVO because they are cheap here in England. @@bobbelman6666 Hi, Jonas, i am just waiting for pcbs to come from china, then they will be on my channel and for sale on ebay! They are better than anything you can buy right now! only week away or so. there is a little board on ebay that is called analog to w-bus it works however, the k-line or w-bus is pulled to ground with a push pull transistor arangement which is gross to say the least! my version uses an attiny85 as a watchdog (safety) pic16f628a as main processor for w-bus and a dedicated iso9141 k-line driver chip made by st micro. You see that the ttv has a lin bus driver chip inside so its only right to talk to it with a proper chip.(chip to chip) the reason is that the chip comes with a lot of protection, if you look at the first post of mine then you will get some specs. i have estimated that using a shit cheap vag kkl lead off ebay with an lm339 inside could induce current up to 2 amps to your ttv circuit board which could kill it dead!
@robinsonlabs5 жыл бұрын
also i would like to add that the ttv is better fuel efficent because it uses a venturi to meter the fuel as the c uses a mesh and forces air through it to try and atomise, the mesh clogs over time and more fuel is used to compensate. in my exp of thermo tops (2 years now) it would be the v all the way! will this be for a liveaboard or just seasonal? it matters for the running time, also it matters if you want to use it on red diesel. We have been testing burners on white and red and the findings are very interesting! red diesel (not for road use) is not lower sulpher so it seems to be clogging burners up more which leads to expensive burner replacements. We are looking into red diesel pre heaters that heat the fuel just before it is injected into the venturi, in that way the sulpher does not carbon up the unit fast! stay tuned more coming!
