That’s a sweet ramp truck! I know it’s a lot of work but imagine how cool it would be to stretch the cab 10” instead of shortening the frame. Think of how roomy the inside of the cab would be.

Just my .02 on the frame length, I'd leave the frame length and build a cross box built into the front of the bed and build a headache rack from that. Or put the fuel tank between a cargo box to hang chain or straps instead of them being piled in a box. you could then turn that open space where the saddle tanks are into more storage on the front sides of the bed. It is more work, but worth it in my unprofessional, none owner of that truck. It is a great set up and I look forward to watching the build... One day I will buy me one to haul my junk around..

Instead of cutting the frame, maybe extend the C-50 cab back 10 inches...think leg room....
@RabidSnot15 күн бұрын
COE Cab Over Engine. I'd not cut it frame wise and build a big storage compartment behind CAB.. there's always extra's you need on those long road trips.. measure three times, cut twice.. once. Nice Score David, I like that style ramp better than the other style also as the car will sit level up top centered front to rear depending on length, of vehicle. going to be a cool project.

I reckon a pair of twin truck stacks behind the cab that will fill in that 10 inch’s just nice👌
@CTemple8215 күн бұрын
I’d leave the extra 10” and maybe build a custom headache rack with incorporated storage box/ toolbox in between and then you’d have a good spot to mount two nice big stacks on each side between the cab and bed.

@xozindustries745116 күн бұрын
That’s a really nice bed, I would get a Kodiak chassis and put your cab and that bed with your diesel in that, that chassis is way too weak to haul, brakes and tires are too small, suspension isn’t up to it, I’ve built a ramp truck on a f600 chassis because of all these reasons. The roll off truck the end of the video would be the perfect chassis to swap the cab onto and put your motor in
@john242ti15 күн бұрын
This. Then, if a squarebody is desired, find a good unstretched frame and build a nice 1983 C/K30 pickup, using the cab from the ramp truck.

Dave when and if you chop the frame look real hard for a section of International dump truck frame and after you reweld the ramp truck frame put the international frame over the top where you spiced it. It will hold up better than reinforcing the frame on the inside

stretch c50 cab 5-6" and have room for stacks between cab and bed, do the stretch just behind the door jams and push the cab wall back, that way its just cosmetic, with no messing with door fit or glass, a little more room behind the seats for comfort and dry stowage wouldn't hurt anyway

Hey David I’d definitely be interested in the cab and front clip section since you are using the older body style truck from 1967-1972!! I have a 1981 K30 that has a decent body kinda other than the doors are both dented up and it is yellow from a fire department and I have always wanted a white square body!! And yes the cabs are definitely different lengths from the older body style trucks 1967-1972 to the square body style trucks!! How I know is I’ve done a few body swaps on both already also!!! Let me know on the cab and front clip if you would and what you would like out of it???

Why would you spend so much time chopping the frame rather than just building a 10" +/- cabinet between the cab and bed and use that for tow stuff storage, fuel cans, etc.?
@Derf13138 күн бұрын
Ya always need dry storage, stretch the cab, lol... Or just the lower for backpack/suitcase/etc. Plus, there isn't any long storage for shovel, broom, wire prop (or lifting branches). I prefer to keep those dedicated to a rig, & stowed away... Nice bed, btw, see a score.
@1sicsrt8 күн бұрын
@Derf1313 you can't fit a shovel into a 10" thick, 5' tall cabinet (or whatever the height from frame rail to top of cab is)? Then you need shorter shovels. A cabinet would be perfect to hang all the towing straps, turn-buckles, chains, etc.
@Derf13137 күн бұрын
What about full width? Over 6'... Lots of wreckers have a full width box, with doors on both sides.
@1sicsrt7 күн бұрын
@Derf1313 that's what I meant. Didn't know I had to explain about building a cabinet that is the width and height of the cab, in the space allowed for storage of misc towing supplies. Anything else I need to explain in detail?
