How do u defend a fast attacker other than pushing them outside?

The best way is to ways physically impose yourself on him. If he happens to be faster AND stronger, you have to be smarter than him. Try to nick the ball off him before he receives it. Foul him a couple of times. You can also ask one of your midfielders to support you to create a 2v1 or ask him to block the said attacker's passing lane. It is the job of your teammates to prevent you from getting into a battle of pace with the fast attacker as you would be at a disadvantage. However, for this you need to clearly and calmly communicate this to your teammates. If you want to look at some players who do this really well, look at Hummels. He isn't the fastest of defenders but is still world class.

Sorry for the late reply, I meant to say that when a striker is taller and bulkier than you, he would like to use his body as a shield between you and the ball. He can achieve this by leaning against you to restrict your movement and keeping you away from the ball. So, it's smarter to not allow him to lean against you easily.

If you think Ramos is a better CB than VVD, then just search CB guides and tips in the net. Almost all videos are based on VVD. He is without a doubt the most complete CB the world of football have ever seen. Plus Ramos defends against farmer clubs most of the time, while VVD battle it out against fierce EPL teams week in week out.

Van Dijk is better than Ramos. People will disagree cos Ramos is from the 2000s like Thiago Silva. Ramos is also very dirty. Most especially, Ramos has way more trophies. If he played in England he will be rubbish like Pique. We consider pique a great Defender for Barcelona now. In Spain, you can make mistakes to help you improve in England every mistake is costly and can lose you the game. Like you've explained with Chris Smalling. Ramos IQ isn't great tbh. It's just years of experience. He didn't have those passes in his early career. He also takes a whole lot of pens.

Ramos is a big game player....first of all...ramos not being smart is bs....he is the master of dark arts...his tactical foul against atletico in 2016 final helped them win the ucl trophy....second of all ramos has to cover a wider area than vvd....marcelo occasionally goes forward leaving pockets of spaces behind him which ramos covers....vvd on the other hand fits very well into a system of high press, plus he always has fabinho and Robertson to cover him Especially Robertson the way he tracks back is phenomenal...people don't see vvd and matip getting exposed due to the high press...but in the recent game against Chelsea you see them getting exposed on numerous occasions...vvd is a phenomenal defender nonetheless
