Hello there Kosmic. Sorry if this is nearly 2 weeks late but: I also liked the little explainer at the beginning to give new viewers what exactly goes into the run. Great stuff and great times for both 8-4 and D-4 which is also the final time. 8m 17.062 for the 8-4 segment which led into a D-4/final world record time of 13m 55.423s. 2:40 This neat feature also works on the American version of Super Mario Bros 2 in Super Mario All Stars. The game has 4 main/major warp zones (there’s others but they’re glitches and warp back to the beginning of that world or somewhere in a previous stage of that World. If you want the link let me know) Anyhoo.. we have…. M 1-3 to 4-1 S 3-1 to 5-1 M 4-2 to 6-1 S 5-3 to 7-1 S = near start M = near mid, so yeah you even have to play part of those 2 stages And it’s kind of hard which path to take. Each one requires to do at least one whole world. 3-1 to 5-1 and then 5-3 to 7-1 seems basic. You have to fight two bosses though, but the warps are at the start, it’s the beginning easier levels. 5-1 is rather straightforward, although 5-2 is a bit tough. 1-3 to 4-1 and then 4-2 to 6-1 is popular. The ice world isn’t too complicated. No birdo at end of 4-1. 6-2 is really straightforward and 6-3 has a nifty short cut. 1-3 to 4-1 and then 5-3 to 7-1 is underrated a bit. Again World 4 is considered easier than World 3. World 4-3 also has a nice shortcut. But then you have to do 5-1 and 5-2 which are a bit tough. But playing the SNES you can go to 4-1 save/quit, then click back to World 3, warp to 5-1 and then go to World 7-1 in World 5-3. I did this all the time.

I don’t understand how the Super Mario All Star VS can be in the same category as the original FDS version. It isn’t a perfect replica after all, so some timing, and glitches would be different, right?

0:58 I do think this needs slightly more clarification for people who are only familiar with the NES. Mario 2 Japan was made for the Famicom Disk System, not the original Famicom. The FDS used floppy disks, and while they have the disadvantage of having slow load times, they are larger in capacity than carts, and you can easily save data to them. So unlike the NES, the FDS could easily save your progress, which the NES usually didn't do. So while you have to beat the game 8 times, it doesn't have to be in one sitting.
@Kosmicd123 жыл бұрын
Theres a solid 50 or so NES games that had save batteries. Zelda is at least popular enough that people should know that's possible :) haha. If they ever ported this game I wonder how they would've handled it, since it's just one tiny thing that needs to be saved

@Kosmic is it? I feel like in a lot of games it's frowned upon. Same with intentional deaths.
@Kosmicd123 жыл бұрын
@@HonkeyKongLive both of those are totally fine and used anywhere they're faster in tons of games. Maybe you're thinking of categories like "No up+A" or "deathless" in some NES games where those categories are more popular, but there's the regular any% categories too. OoT is a good example where there's a hundred intentional deaths and save warps haha. Even the next SM64 120 Star TAS will feature a savewarp, which is really neat.
