The main reason that contributes to the situation here is the - teenage work culture. Now I know that in the west 15-16 year old's start doing a job of some form and that is accepted there, but here in India no one who is 15-16 goes and looks for a job (unless you are very poor). So when these kids go and look for a job or internship for the first time they do not know how to negotiate or even what their skills are worth of, They are just looking for jobs and they end up taking pretty low paying ones. For people outside India I'll set up the context right in our currency how much 1000 rs is. India is a very diverse place. If you are living as a bachelor in a sub developed city with not so good infra and facilities it would cost you around 10000 to live on scrapes. That included rent food electricity and gas bills . In a tier 1 city this is like 15 to 20k. This is the bare minimum needed to survive. If you want to have some basic happiness in tier 1 cities like going out on weekends some Netflix and other subscriptions and good food it's straight away 30k easy. So paying someone 1k is beyond hopeless. A cheap startup which is not a scam pays interns 10k and employees around 20+.that too is like not even decent. Decent is like 40k above. Minimum.

First they teach you out of context subject with too much strictness for first two years then actual stuff starts with programming and projects. Then teachers don't even know how to code properly they just copy from random blogs on internet and asks students that they should learn this and complete the project by final year. Now the student who paid 75-150k rupees annual college/uni fees don't even know how to code properly, so they join such companies and they tell them that they have to pay to their company and they will help them to make final year project so they can complete their degree. While it's true that companies pay crap, it's a symptom. Root cause is that India is a status based society. Parents want their children to be engineers (supposedly high status job) and force them to join some engineering college. Those colleges don't worry about having good professors because neither students nor their parents care. Most of these students don't learn anything useful in college because they weren't interested in engineering to begin with. More than 1.5 million "engineers" graduate every year in India, and half of them are CS. Once they graduate, they need a job to sustain themselves. This results in a huge stream of unskilled candidates and not enough jobs. Whenever supply is greater than demand, either price falls or there is wastage. In other words, low salary or unemployment. We need to stop forcing uninterested people into these colleges. Rest will follow.

My salary was 10k rupees (134USD/month), I accepted it as I thought at least I can learn stuff, gain experience and can quit 2 years later (they told me I had to sign papers to not leave the company for at least 2 years). After a few days at the job, I figured I was the only guy who knew something about data science and machine learning at all, there was nobody to "train" me as they said before. The CEO just gave me tasks to do that made no sense from a data science point of view like build a model for each ticker in this database, there were thousands of companies in the database, training a neural network model for each company data individually takes months to compute, even then who wants 1000 models? how do you even deploy them? When I told him he just said run it on the server it's faster and don't worry about other things, I told him the server doesn't have a GPU and it's already used by multiple people the CPU can't handle it, but he insisted anyway, so I did let it ran in the server. Coming to the job itself, I realised I was tasked to handle the entire project all by myself with the CEO giving crazy instructions. The CEO lied to the client that I had 4-year experience as a data scientist before joining here. I just wanted to quit at this point, I was stressed as the CEO will yell at me often for the things that he promised to the client he will deliver without even asking me that is even a possible thing to do but I couldn't do. I will have to be in the office for at least 12-14 hours or else he will yell at me for not working hard. Then after a month, I decided to quit (as the papers were not prepared to be signed) they didn't want to let me go as I'm literally that guy handled an entire project, they refused to give me back my college certificates(which they asked me to provide for verification purposes the first day I joined the company). After 3 months of struggle, I got my certificates back. I'm doing my masters now. Legend has it the models are still training in the server...

Now I am a 93.4% in boards, 141 JEE mains score (2014), and passionate about programming since 11th standard, but the only thing I didnt have was exposure and was too gullible. Gave interview in a Noida based firm, those dogs had no shame in saying they will have 2yr bond, will pay me 18k, keep my original academic documents. I feel so relieved I didnt stooped that low to get that offer. It has been tough since, but these two years I have reached a place where I am appreciated, payed decent, people acknowledge me as a talented programmer and see good growth ahead. These are small institutions for teaching programmings to students. These institutions have a weird way of bringing fresh students(job seekers) to them and that is by posting online jobs(as shown in the video). When the student goes there, they conduct the interview process normally(next to students on their system pretending to code :D). Later the interviewer mentions to the candidate that he/she lacks skills in certain areas and then proceeds by introducing their courses and asks the candidate to join. Areas near Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh are full of these types of institutes. It happened with me too once :XD. It was a great experience though.

This is sad because it's true. When I was starting out my career in CS, I faced my interviews in which I was asked to pay. It's all because of supply and demand, and experience requirements for most jobs in the industry. Universities and institutions have to come together to fix this by teaching what's necessary for a career and giving practical training. Meanwhile, if you are in India / Southeast Asia, you don't have enough knowledge of CS, and money isn't what you are looking for in short term, then these companies can turn out to be a game-changer if they do provide experience. There is literally no work culture in most Indian companies. Due to a high population, there are a lot of young software developers struggling to get their first jobs and shady companies take advantage of them. Plus a lot of Indians do not understand the difference between a workshop and an internship. You NEVER PAY the company for working with them. Keep making these awesome videos, so that more people are aware of the situation in this part of the world.✌️✌️

In most of the colleges in India, students are taught Turbo C. I am not aware of a single company that uses Turbo C. This also means students have no knowledge about Github and other concepts. What are the consequences? Skill gap, despite paying 400k INR for a 4-year course, students are not industry-ready. Hence, they are forced to work at these 13$/month companies.

So i have some friends in the auto industry who work a lot with Indian expats as well as overseas India based firms, and this is what they had to say: Engineers in India know full well they can make triple their salary working stateside, but many of those that do find out that the cost of living is also tripled or more and the purchasing power is much lower, so it becomes a pros and cons list Some prefer working stateside anyway because the quality of living is higher or the weather is more bearable, others might see better opportunity for their children Others decide it's better making a fraction of the pay in India where they retain the same purchasing power even while making much less, while still being at home close to their friends and family
@rishav24634 жыл бұрын
Even when adjusted for the cost of living (which is nearly 5x in the US), the 13$ thing translates to $65 a month which is again pure bullshit. This is the funda of many IT companies in India, they earn in "dollars" but pay in "rupees", Indian IT companies have the largest profit margin among all.

Josh , There are way more companies who are exact similar copies of the first company you mentioned in the video (psk Technologies). They thrive on the fact that engineering colleges in India require you to have a internship or research/training experience . If you don't have the certificate to show for it you will get failed in one of the courses. As there are way more students and very less number of internships and training available , students has to resort to these companies to obtain that certificate . Also as you correctly said self financed , this the core of their earning. It is their main business and also sometimes they have ties with nearby hostels/pg where those students might stay for 2 months and they try their best to persuade you to go into them. As for the exposure and work culture ,Their is none. What they do is they ask for your interest and then you have to come everyday and do the projects each week. They will start by introducing the language and the basics like how to use loops and all some very basic projects which by the way are repeated every year. So basically what they provide is CS101 again .

Man, I do understand it. I am student and a part time freelancer, I earn more by freelancing that a regular job. But still I have to go to such internships because during interviews they ask and prefer students only with such experiences. Also our university requires us to complete at least 3 months of internship, and we have no better options. Believe me when I say this, we hate them, but still they are boon for us. If not us then there are students who depend on these internships to help their family.

At my sis's college (I'm still in the process of joining one, stuck coz of Covid), BITS (one of the most sought after, well reputed and expensive colleges in India), students in second year are made to pay around 800USD (60k INR) for a 1.5-month summer internship. Not to mention the expenses they incur - travelling, lodging etc

Oh my man my man my man, that elbow to elbow seating arrangement is how I used to get tuition classes for Physics. But that was in 1993 not in 2020. And definitely not when I started working in software. However many companies will do that to give you a "work ex certificate" that you can use later to get a better job. Hence the "you need to pay us" clause. If you are Indian and say 21 and not from a reputed college, that's sometimes a hustle that you need to do. Yes its exploitation but what can you do? Its not that facebook will come to your door ad recruit you otherwise. It's not too bad if you know why you are doing the hustle.

But if you don't get a job but have good knowledge of the course then you can teach other students. You'll definitely get paid more than some of these internships and make a good living out of it as well as helping your juniors 😉

Why in the world does every single piece of media like this that comes from India has 0 regard for simple aesthetics and common sense? Why didn't they take 5 seconds to check if LANUGUAGE is a real word? Why are the motion graphics so all over the place? Why didn't they bother to put that lady in a quiet room and get a decent photo of her, at least a smile? If they were filming the office, why did they just let a dude casually browse his phone on camera? I get that there's maybe some cultural differences and a different standard of living (not being able to afford a better mic etc.), but these things could all be fixed very easily if the person doing it would just care for 2 seconds. IT companies act fake for sure, but I'd take the fakest smiles in the world over that Fluper CEO going "Hello, now go away"

I wonder about this everyday. We are today a society of retards. We as a people have lost the concept of aesthetics, quality of life, personal space, presentation, grooming, mannerisms etc. Disorganised chaos is everywhere. This is very apparent in the way our towns and cities have grown in the last 30-40 years. There is no concept of Pedestrian walkways here. Can anyone imagine that? Our traffic rules are a joke. If you do not cut in front of the guy next to you and go past him, rest assured he will do it to you. Highest number of deaths and accidents on the road percapita in any country. Our ancestors would disown us if they saw what we have become today.

@@perunch5570 It happened after our Independence in 1947. Since ancient times, we were a sophisticated, humane civilization where society was built on the concept of "Dharma - Righteous duty of every individual". We had a duty based society and civil rights came after that. Come 1947, our new constitution completely removed this concept of "Dharma" from every aspect of our lives, education, Bureaucracy, Police, administration etc, to look secular. And to top it all off, we continued with British laws framed to loot us and enslave us, became a socialist country with communist economics, voted for nepotism in politics. Add poverty, illiteracy left behind the British after destroying our education system and ancient technical manuscripts, and you have your answer. India has over 300 languages and 22 official languages. But since 70 years, we haven't translated a single technical book to our languages. If you do not speak English, you are completely screwed here with regards to Knowledge and Jobs. Just look at the picture of any ancient temple from India and look at any picture of a town/city of modern India. The difference is like that between the stars above and the deep sea. I do not have much hope. Our politicians/bureaucrats/people will not change. So I come online once in a while to rant and lament on behalf of our glorious ancestors. Thanks for your interest! Cheers!
