Another tip: Use buffs! Some spells (Longstrider, Freedom of Movement, Warding Bond, Bardic Inspiration, Aid) are non-concentration and last until your next Long Rest. EVERY morning, have a companion or two you don’t plan on adventuring with buff up your A team. Be careful with Warding Bond though!

Playing now on PS5. I’m so addicted now. I’ve been playing till 5 am in the morning. This game is so good. I’ve been excited since the first reveal. Playing with Controller is also great. Although it is hard to navigate to the tips and controls from BG3 PC videos. Press “F8”, and I don’t know what that is mapped to the controller. But BG3 on PS5 can do everything a PC can do.

Throw a poison down in your camp or an area you frequent often. It’ll stay there permanently. If You can dip your weapons into it outside of combat, then the poison remains beyond the initial strike.

I tend to forget how reactive this game is I tend not to use the environment much to my advantage, or much lateral thinking at all to be honest, so I'll try to bear this in mind!

For high ground, carry some boxes around. Before combat (if you see it coming) drop them, stack them, climb up. Instant high ground. And the standard square box is only big enough for one character to stand on, so no enemies can jump up next to you. They are destructible though, so defend your high ground spell slinger well.

I don't have an advanced tip but i have something to share that I didn't figure out before 100 hours into the game. outside of Auntie Ethel's house, where you fight her in her hag form, there is a well you can drink from to receive 10 max hp until long rest, this has no down sides, you can do it with every character. and you can do it an unlimited amount of times as long as you come back after doing said long rest. I also found what i can only assume to be a bug but I'll let it be known regardless. the silver weapons wielded by the Githyanki often have an effect that does X amount of damage if the wielder is a Githyanki. However the game doesn't discriminate. if you use the disguise spell to disguise yourself as a Gith, you can still get this bonus, currently the game saves a weapon's most recent state. this means that if you transform into a Gith to get the bonus, you can remove your disguise and the bonus damage still applies despite not being a Gith anymore. As long as you don't unequip the weapon by any means or use the respec service from Withers, the buff seems to stay indefinitely. Captain Voss wields a unique Legendary greatsword with this effect. You normally get this weapon midway through Act 3, but if you use the command spell. You can get him to drop the weapon where he stands. This will trigger the cutscene regarding the artifact. If you feign ignorance and pass the dice rolls, the entire patrol will leave while his weapon remains on the ground for you to pick up. Lae'Zel has a unique piece of dialogue if she wields the weapon while you talk to her

4:16: Eldritch Blast Sorlocks can be CC machines. The Great Old One grants a passive that can frighten enemies and/or those nearby on a Critical Hit. If you pair this with a Sorcerer using gear that stacks Reverberation, enemies will get frightened and knocked prone simultaneously. Getting up from prone takes movement speed; movement speed an enemy no longer has if they’re frightened. Haste + Quickened Spell Eldritch Blast, followed by two main action Eldritch Blasts = 9 beams all applying their own damage riders and conditions. Not only can you CC and mow down groups of enemies, you’re setting up your martial characters to go wild. There are tons of videos on here showcasing how to build this walking war crime and how incredibly potent it is. God I love this game.

4:12 the way was just on screen - vines. you can get a staff which has a chance to cast vines on each attack in act one, not sure whom from though. 6:31 also - when holding down alt and clicking on the nametag of a book, you will loot it as opposed to "use"-ing it (should mean reading, but I am not certain whether "use" is always the same as "read", so I'd rather be explicite). This can be useful if you don't want to get into trouble over stealing a book which is marked as someones property and just read it or if you want to avoid having to right-click and select "pick up" from the context menu on books which aren't.

in the attacks/actions/spells menu below there is sub menus at the bottom of the screen click passives and disable or enable the all in attack passive whenever you want if u spec into weapon mastery skill and now the disadvantage to hit anything is ruining your character

My top tips are: 1. Get to 5th-level as fast as possible. Larian don't seem to understand goblins are supposed to be weak; I was stunned to find multiple encounters in the early areas with multiple enemies each with multiple attacks and/or bombs and magic, even on balanced that's brutally difficult at level 2 or 3. 2. Get hybrid damage/control spells as soon as possible. Evard's Black Tentacles and Hungry Hungry Hadar (Hunger of Hadar) are a must, because Larian has nerfed some of the best pure control spells in the game (like Hypnotic Pattern). There are plenty of times where enemies come in big groups or have summons, so either of these will cripple them. Sadly Spike Growth isn't as good as in regular D&D because most enemies will just jump out of it without taking any damage. I've been really enjoying the game, but I have to say I'm disappointed by the city; I was expecting to either get there a lot sooner, or for it to be a lot bigger. At first I was thinking "wow, this game must be enormous if it's taking me 40 hours just to get to Baldur's Gate", but then the city is really just Rivington/Wyrm's Crossing and a compressed chunk of the lower city (bits of Eastway and Heapside). I also wanted to have more freedom than I do; you still have an extremely imperative main quest at this point in the game, so if you're serious about the roleplaying any delay feels like a waste of time, plus the game is heavily pushing you to continue with the main quest with frequent earthquakes and one of the villains actively pushing you to drop all side activities and focus on the main quest. Game's still really good, but I've never felt like I had any real freedom to just do side quests, the game's set permanently at two minutes to certain doom, and constantly reminding you of that fact. I wish it had a much lower stakes storyline rather than falling hard for the world ending "you *must* deal with this *immediately*" imperative threat, as it gets tiring and feels restricting.

I think that it's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, Mass Effect had a ticking clock story as well but you could do whatever with very little consequences.

@@jmareX I feel like Mass Effect 3 did less to remind you all the time of that ticking clock; in Baldur's Gate 3 every other dialogue reminds you of the illithid parasite or the current main quest objective, and a lot of NPCs talk with urgency about it. Plus once you get to the city Orin keeps popping up everywhere, as do her victims, with more coming if you don't do anything about it, including one very serious one I don't want to spoil.

As much as I love BG3, I can’t get on board with dipping. It’s just a dumb mechanic, to the point where I’d rather ignore it than take the 1d4 benefit. In a world of monsters, magic and barbarians flinging goblins at ogres, dipping a sword into a candle to burst it into flames is the least plausible thing I’ve encountered.

As a GM, If a player asks to dip a sword in a candle to light it on fire I won't even ask for a roll. It just fails.

It is a game, not an accurate simulation of life! If you feel better: Before you dip your sword into the candle, you have something burnable wrapped around your sword and dip afterwards. Use your imagination just this one time.

3:26 unless this was patched since release, merchants will not drop ALL of their inventory on death. So some items will be gone from your playthrough forever, to include items you sold them that you had no use for at the time.
