This is definitely a raw, realistic representation of elk hunting in my eyes. I've definitely made the same mistakes before. I'm glad you guys aren't afraid to show these kinds of hunts. Great video!

These are honestly my favorite videos... theres so many trophy videos out there. But the average hunter like myself who has 1 week a year for this, cant relate to giant tracts of private land hunting trophys year in year out. I can relate to this content and better yet, I can learn from it. Thank you so much!

really enjoyed your video. I've been out a half dozen times and all the trials and tribulations you went thru I experienced which brought back some very fond memories. It's not always about taking an animal it's about the experience...the smells, the sounds...everything about the outdoors. Well done fellas...well done.

Ya'll was in'em. I don't think the compound guys will take your comment wrong. I had a buddy try to bait me in to that debate. I just said everyone should hunt with what they think is right for them. I certainly don't look down my nose at other hunters. Just because I am trad. There or guys like you doing it with self bows. Some guys building their equipment with stone tools. Some folks chunkin' spears. Glad to see your Son learning music. Hate you are eating tag soup but, that is huntin'. 👍

I'll echo a few learning points. Dont buggle that close to a herd bull, if he cant see another elk more often than not, they'll gather cows and split. My second piece of advice is to lose the packs when that close. Mark where you leave it and make yourselves more stealthy and nimble. Great video, lots of excitement!

The marks you saw on the aspen tree are actually elk chews, usually found in there wintering areas. Although if there was light winter snow accumulations in there summer areas they might have wintered higher. The cows will eat the bark to help with the birthing pains like aspirin does for humans. I noticed several old scars on other aspen trees when I see that to me those are called elky woods Areas where the elk love to be. I personally think they eat the aspen bark in January, February, and March to help with starvation.

Thank you both for taking us on your journey. We were right there routing for your success. Like you pointed out it was a very successful adventure. Bowhunting elk is just plain tough on a dyi hunt. Knowledge will lead to success. Good luck on you next adventure. Great share , especially like your respect for the game , rare in this fist bumping world of modern media.

Circles to show location of the Elk is spot on as well as telling us yardage. Sometimes you look and think real far and one of you will say 25 yds. Awesome fellas

Great video and great hunt guys the gear you guys are running is awesome but if I could make a recommendation for your packs you should try out the rokman waterproof pack system it is 100% waterproof and doesn't need a pack cover. Give it a try you won't regret using it they are one of the top outdoor and hunting packs out there.

Great video, great hunt.... only tip I would say is if you see a bull with cows stick to cow calling, if you bugle that close he'll take his cows and leave...

Awesome trip for you guys. Nothing quite like hunting elk or mule deer in the high country. 100% different experiences than down on the flatlands. Maybe this fall there will be blood on the arrow. ( get a bear tag). 👍👍

I have heard a lot of other hunters talk about hunting in terms of “management” and “conservation.” I think if this is your philosophy then it is right to assume that you killed an animal, rather than to assume you wounded an animal and that it lived. Wounding an animal, then moving on to the next without confirmation one way or another seems more like exploitation than management and doesn’t seem fair to other hunters IMO. I dunno, I think if you draw blood you should be cutting your tag, otherwise you’re taking more than your fair share. That elk might live, but even if he survives the wound he’s far more susceptible to predators than had he not been shot. He might survive the wound but not the consequences of being wounded. Entertainers and communicators like these guys need to be more responsible

Are you a Bowhunter? Or did you just stay to put these guys down. They took all necessary steps in this situation yes it’s unfortunate but it is definitely bow hunting

Bummer! But to get 2 really good opportunities at mature bulls in 13 days is a success. Thats a shot at a mature bull every 6.5 days. Almost any Elk hunter will take those odds!
