Yes. In effect, as Director of Creative Diversity, June Sarpong was employed as an ethnic cleanser. Her role was to reduce the number of white faces on out TV screens. I remember looking at the biographies of her management team a few years ago, and I can assure you within this team there was no diversity whatsoever (unless one or two of the team members were homosexual). What you are describing here are the BBC's 'diversity' employment quotas. This is another fine example of Blair's Britain in all its grotesque glory.

A friend of my mum is a screen writer. He put one of his drama's into the BBC for consideration, under his name (White British) is was immediately rejected, then he put it in under his wife's name (Eastern European) and it was accepted. He keeps saying he can not get a look in unless he is one of the minorities now and his dramas must include multicultural people in it.

I can well believe that. £100m over 3 years for "diversity" is ridiculous. If anything, minorities are over represented at the BBC, both in their staff and the actors appearing in their output. Sime diversity of thought would be nice, though! Given the way the BBC is funded, however, there will always be lots of cash left over for vanity projects such as this. Good luck being a white, British male and having your almost non-existent prospects of equal treatment enhanced at the BBC. The BBC's "diversity" policies put many forms of discrimination, including racial, into practice. It is a truly disgusting organisation.

I found the results of BBC diversity amazing enough to stop paying for the product, and not watching any content since 2006. BBC radio "placed offensive expletive" content also left me incensed since 2020, and I have found lots of commercial and local non-profit radio to take its place. Not hard to do, since most of the talent has moved to these commercial radio stations, where they are recognised for their excellence.

Have to agree with you and as soon as the programme announces it includes offensive/strong language that’s signal for a programme change. I left school in the mid 50’s and entered factory work, which apart from 2 years in the forces, lasted 8 years. I was subjected to the ritual “baptism of fire” by being exposed, immediately, to extremely bad language, language which I had never, ever heard from either of my parents use. For the record, we were not followers of any religious practices, such as going to Church every Sunday, we just followed “the flow”’ had our banns read in church, weddings, christenings and funerals. Whilst the language was more tempered and somewhat less extreme, when I became an engineering draughtsman, it was something I continued to “live with”, to varying degrees, on a daily basis. Because when growing up, my home life had never embraced this degree of bad language and was all the better for it, I didn’t want to hear i in my own household, either from myself, my wife and especially not my children, and I certainly didn’t want to hear it pouring out of my wireless speakers or my TV, especially in the presence of my own children. But then, perhaps, I’m just ‘old fashioned’…?

@@roncouch 18:30 BBC R4 never gives the warning, however, escalating the number of insertions of the "s" word since 2020. We had the benefit of advertising of gambling being banned, and the shops had frosted out windows, and since every broadcaster (lottery on BBC), now seems to revel in it, there has been concerns over debt, insolvency, bankruptcy, and suicide. Meanwhile, a betting CEO has entered the news for a salary in the hundreds of millions.

The issue I have with diversity in the workplace is when a company has to meet minimum targets. This means that say a white person is the most qualified and suitable for a job but because of targets a less qualified person is hired just because of their ethnicity. To me that would discriminate against the white person. The other day I was on the phone to customer service and I was put through to what sounded like an Indian person and I could barely understand what they were saying. So to me that person wasn't suitable for that job if customers have difficulty understanding what she is saying.

This channel and Jon’s other channel Chilli Jon Carne has persuaded me ( at 69) to dump my licence ( legally) after all these years . I now watch only KZbin on Chromecast as I don’t have a Smart TV. De-tuned my TV of all channels and wiped my iPad and Phone of the Apps ( which incidentally I never used anyway). There’s more than enough interesting content on KZbin to keep me interested and I have all day to watch if I want to. I have persuaded two people I know ( of similar ages)to drop their licences as well as I believe this is where big inroads have to be made. Older generations have been paying this “ tax” to keep nonces and perverts etc in a life of luxury for far too long and these are the people that are most deeply brainwashed by this vile organisation. We have to persuade them to take action as soon as possible. They’ve destroyed my chances of a free licence when I’m 75 as well. A greedy, vile organisation full of some of the lowest, most unpleasant people in our society who deserve only my disdain and disrespect. I’ve got freedom of choice and the BBC can’t control that !!!!!

The BBC don’t have to make any programmes. They are in the marvellous position of being able to broadcast any old bollocks, or even none at all, and still rake in the cash. If every one of their buildings burnt down and every staff member was lost nobody would know (or care) but we’d still have to pay to watch live TV. The entire licence feee concept stinks like a dog turd.

Quite a profound observation or profane, depending from which perspective one sees it. It might be argued that a disabled person could be seen to have ‘more’ rights, but without qualification, it doesn’t present a true picture. It, in the end, comes down to “horses for courses”, and what could be seen to be an “advantage” may be no more than society’s attempt to adjust the imbalance created by a person’s “disability”, whether it be congenital - as is the case with my middle-aged daughter or, induced by a contracted disease or perhaps, a life-changing accident. None-the-less, a disability almost invariably, has a braking effect; especially for the non-professional, on one’s career prospects - except in rare instances. Many yeas ago we engaged a solicitor to handle a property transaction for us. It was completed without any problems bar the part where the appearance of the property, location and boundaries needed to be commented upon: this was done, in the event, by the solicitor’s Legal Secretary because the solicitor, themselves, was completely blind. Mind you, to be ‘Devil’s Advocate’, the solicitor in question was a senior partner in the business, which at the time, had been offering its legal services for more than three generations. In this instance, it could well have played a part in ensuring the solicitor - all things being equal - had a “job for life”. Indeed, for the record, the solicitor retired from the business the following year. He was, by my estimate, already turned 70 yeas of age. The colour of one’s skin or, their ethnicity cannot reasonably be seen as a fundamental, all embracing, disability. Only where a “disability” has arisen in the same way as it manifests in Britain’s population, as a whole, should a disability be taken into consideration. That there might be bias being overtly practised and which favours certain categories of people, in the country’s “Institutions” - Universities and the BBC being examples - is something for society, through its elected government, (the ‘Establishment’) to sort out. It is not the “duty” of these ‘Quangos’ to take the “law” into their own hands.

"Positive discrimination" is still discrimination. It is not and never will be, or lead to, equality. And how must it feel for the people hired under these schemes, knowing that they got the position based on colour or ethnicity, rather than being viewed as the best person for the job? Imagine turning up to work every day, knowing that at least some of your colleagues are likely to be thinking, "Yeah, we all wanted to work with and learn from the dude tipped to be the next Spielberg, but thanks to D&I we had to settle for you."

4:21 'Does that mean that some people who are perfect for the job must be overlooked?' - Not necessarily. Expecting certain levels of diversity is not the same as choosing employees based on race - which is illegal. If they set targets and they aren't realised, then that might inform their practices. They might ask why certain groups are under-represented and seek to ensure people from less typical backgrounds, who could contribute good work, have a reasonable shot at doing so. Almost by definition, working class people are not those who study things like journalism (at least, on a proper course), or go into a creative arts fields as a career; therefore a working class person may have already lost out on a job they'd be more than suitable for because they didn't study pre-empting a possible career at the BBC. I understand your concern, but do you really not see how some people would be overlooked if they didn't have any measures in place? I do agree with you on salaries though. The pay of BBC staff is outrageous, and I doubt very much whether they need a huge diversity team. It's not like they really have a shortage of willing and capable applicants.

No... They need a diversity team - without that, they have the freedom to portray whatever crap they want. You say that a role should go to someone who is "Best qualified for the job" - so, like, you mean using an actual disabled person to fill the role of a disabled person??? or just the guy with the highest number of degrees??? Weren't they in trouble with the public before for faking a disability on an able bodied actor??? Just think about how many more goons and prosecutions they can get if they strain the relationship between themselves and people on benefits much more, too - oddly enough, didn't you notice that they didn't do a version of "Benefits Street" using Universal Credit as the backdrop??? Why not whack three series' worth of "Benefits Street does Universal Credit" on the tele and see what that does for the ratings and dwindling licence payments???

Ask yourself this though... how many disabled, black...ect ect people have been turned down for jobs that they ARE perfectly qualified for and the job given to some white uni student barely out of nappies? I dont think its pandering at all. Its great to see all the different types of people out there, the more we see it, them then the more comfortable it will be for us. Because we have been taught that to be different is "strange" and "you will never get a job with those piecerings/tatoos" it makes some people uncomfortable to be arround that... so the more it gets seen the easier accepted it will be. Everyone is unique and should be accepted for who they are ... its not "wokery" (i realy cant stand that saying!!) Its caring for each other in they way we want to be cared for too. Its what we all want, a society that is accepting and loving to all. It starts with us.
