Well I don't loath them, despite having been prosecuted in the past for no licence, but I do find them increasingly irrelevant. I have no interest in dancing or football or soaps and as that's most of their headline shows I'm getting very little for my money. Personally I think they should embrace the world of advertising like everyone else does. Do it little by little and wean themselves off the licence money. That way I could not watch the advertising in the same way I don't watch it on any of the commercial channels. It wouldn't take much as £3.7 billion isn't a lot these days - it's only about 100 metre's worth of HS2.

The corporation is top heavy with executives on 6 or even 7 figure salaries. Then, there's always the, 'superstar', presenters who think the BBC should cater to their every whim to keep them happy. If they want to make cuts, that's where they should start. Oh, and get people in who are actually interested in making programmes that people want to watch might help a bit, too. But then I keep forgetting, the BBC doesn't make their own programmes any more, does it? It tenders them all out to their independent private companies who _aren't_ at all associated with the BBC, and do _NOT_ use public money to make profits for themselves. 😉

Since I can choose what news channels I wish to watch (All of them web based) I find the BBC more irrelevent in my life. I don't watch period dramas, doing up property programmes, games shows or any depressing soaps. I stopped paying licence fee's six months ago and will never go back.... Best thing I've done and should have done it sooner.

Living beyond their means. Our family shops around and buys from discount shops and online, we don't shop at the same store as the rich and famous. The BBC shouldn't spend on supplying the world with radio stations in multiple languages or taking on contracts that other stations can't afford. Living or operating a business beyond your means usually heads towards failure. Bad management throughout or everyone too frightened to speak up.

Look, I have had great pleasure over the last 12 years in not telling tv licensing that I don’t need a tv licence but if I wanted to watch or listen to the BBC then I think the 159 quid that it costs atm for 3 tv channels 5😢 radio channels is a bargain. Everything is getting more expensive, of course they need more money. Without proper investment their quality of programmes will suffer, people will moan more and it will be a vicious circle. If you don’t want to invest in the BBC then don’t. There’s plenty you can legitimately watch without having a licence.

Im actually in favour of the licence fee for those who watch live TV. If not they will do as they do in Germany make it payable to all again via a local tax. Out of all the people I've spoken to when I've been abroad, not one ever mentioned how they envied us for the BBC or NHS. I also know a couple of people from the US who now live here. They've never mentioned anybody back home envying us for our 'national institutions, either. I can't help thinking all the 'envy' of the BBC is in the heads of its cheerleaders in the public sector.

On a side note, I recently saw, on a TalkTV video, an interview with the campaign manager for Defund The BBC. She actually did a good interview. They even brought up the point that broadcast TV is fading away whatever happens to the licence. So, maybe that organisation is springing into life.

As I understand it, the percentage of people aged 40 and under who watch live TV is almost nothing compared to a few decades ago. The new boss is part of a generation that watches/watched a lot of TV. Nowadays, people have so many options, including not watching TV at all. Dame what's-her-face needs to get out once in a while and do some research.

For all your criticism of the BBC you provide no examples or evidence of why or where they mismanage their finances, You could start by highlighting the exorbitant salaries they pay many of their staff and the duplication of news reporting across TV and radio. Every BBC radio station has its own set of reporters for example. What about the enormous number of weather presenters. That is almost amusing. Wherever you turn there is a weather reporter that pops up. There is a lot of scope for saving money since they are not in game of competing with other broadcaster. They are there by statute.
