2:55 you are right !! I had humitas in Amazonia for a while until I taste it in Cuenca... WOW, not the same at all in my experience. Same for hornado on Costa VS Oriente...

I find it amazing how much of a difference there is between the same food in different locations. I remember when I ate an encebollado in the highlands around when I first arrived in Ecuador. I already knew what it tasted like in the coast and had already loved it. I ate it over there and NOPE, not good, never again. 🥲

Visiting Ecuador for 2 1/2 weeks on Wednesday, any advice regarding the current situation? We‘re arriving in Quito. Your videos helped me a lot Ace, thank you!
@GMAceM Жыл бұрын
I think that’s awesome, I hope you have a great time in Ecuador! As for any tips on the current situation, it’s hard to say anything concrete. Personally I’d avoid Quito just because if anything big happens there’s a chance it’ll be there. Some people say that it’s fine because the police are around and there’s a large military/police presence around the “Centro Histórico” which tends to be a popular tourist site. Nothing is guaranteed and the situation is constantly evolving. Today things might be peaceful and tomorrow the citizens might decide to storm the capital because they’re tired of everything. I guess the best thing I can tell you is if you go, try not to be out on the streets for too long, maybe consider focusing your trip on tourist attractions. Of course if you’re only landing in Quito then going to Cuenca or Baños or cities like that then I think you’ll be just fine. Glad my content could be useful and thanks for watching! 👏🏼

As always, an interesting video on food. I have noticed there's a difference in all kinds of foods not just region to region, but country to country. You know your eyes light up when you talk about encebollado! hahahahahaha.

Thanks for noticing the big differences between Peru and Ecuador ceviche. The only thing in common is the name. Try original one in Lima or any coastal city.

Hey, Ace. Nice to have a cheerful fun topic. Thanks. Question: how frequently do you come across baked empanadas? Chile and Peru bake empanadas. And it goes without saying, I am so sorry about your 'political incident/murder'. He seemed like a good man/candidate. Thanks, again. Hola to su padre.

While Ecuador has fried empanadas de viento , Peru and Chile are baked empanadas. "Empanadas de Chabuca" Avda. Francisco de Orellana in Guayaquil . They are so good, also selling peruvian tamales

It's a myth that food is "cheaper" in Ecuador. The food comes in much smaller packages, so it may be less expensive, but that doesn't make it "cheaper." The problem with meat, produce and vegetables is that it is either not ripe or it's way past expiration. Which means you may have to throw away a lot of food. It doesn't matter where you buy Mercado, SuperMaxi or Coral. And good luck finding meat that looks like what you're used to. I don't think there is a butcher in the country, at least not in Cuenca. I've asked at both Supermaxi and Coral, what a piece of meat was supposed to be, and I was told "cow" or "pig" or "fish." They couldn't tell me what part of a cow or pig it was. smh Went to Mercado, that was interesting. Purchased "meat" they had beef strips there, which cost $3.50lb. I ordered ground beef, they took the $3.50lb beef and ground it up into hamburger and charged me $1.50lb. wth? SMH As for taste, it's all very bland. I haven't tasted food this bad since the school cafeteria. Lord knows, I've tried to find decent food, but it doesn't seem to be had. All their breads taste the same. The only thing different is how it looks. I'm used to breads in Mexico, each bread had it's own unique taste. Not in Ecuador. smh As to KFC, I've tried that a few times. Sometimes you actually get some with spices. Most of the time, it's "bland." Not sure what Ecuadorians have against spices. lol Oh and the fries at KFC are made up of mash potoatoes which have been placed into a mold. That's the best way I can describe it. You can tell by the texture. They have some kind of love affair with mayonaise. We're used to having ketchup with our fries. They eat mayonaise with just about everything! lol Don't expect salt and pepper with your meals or even being available. Not going to happen. I have to carry my own.

Don’t like encebollado or ceviche….I hate mayonnaise! wife was born & raised in Ecuador…but left at 18 years old in 1993. Give me some Patacones, pan de yuca, empanadas de queso, chicharron, bola de verde con queso & mani, corvina apanada / a la plancha….and some aji.

Don’t let my best friends hear you 😂 Have you tried those dishes in Portoviejo? We got the good stuff 👀 I know a lot of people who dislike the fishy dishes, no worries but people will joke around if they hear you say you don’t like them because of how popular they are. Those other dishes are superb though that’s for sure (big fan of pan de yuca and chicharrón here). Thanks for watching!
