Excellent video, Jerry. Congratulations! I am enjoying my 13- inch iPad Pro 2024 very much😀. The oled screen is the main reason why I bought this device, reading and watching content is day and night compared to the M2 iPad 2022.

I love the 13 inch being slimmer and lighter for me. I wish I could get the 11 inch for travel though, but this is pretty light and will fit easily in the backpack. Thanks for a great video.

Thank you for being objective, Jerry. While it is a beautiful device as most Apple devices are, we appreciate your honesty by bringing attention to the downsides of owning the new M4 iPad Pro.

@@JerrySchulze I agree. In fact, I purchased an M1 iPad Air 5 as soon as it went on sale for $399.

While I agree with you that the Magic Keyboard is more top heavy and harder to use on your lap while sitting, I disagree with your complaints about the thinness of the new iPad Pro. The new 13” is actually usable as a tablet for me, where the previous generation was not. I personally hardly ever use the speakers on my iPad for audio. Usually I’m either using a HomePod or AirPods.

interesting, thanks. Was the previous version to thick to hold comfortably?
@jeromescott21135 ай бұрын
@@JerrySchulze - yes, the previous version was too thick to hold comfortably. I actually purchased an iPad Mini because of this issue, but I find myself using much less since upgrading to the M4 iPad Pro.

Hey Jerry! As a middle school student looking to purchase his first tablet, I am contemplating wether to get this or an ipad air 13 inch, since they are the same price, just one model being faster and the other one bigger but slower. My school is slowly shifting to online resources and I am planning to use an ipad up to my early college years. In your opinion, what model is best for futureproofing?
@carlosmiles21105 ай бұрын
*Futureproofing as in “which model is suitible for a middle schooler up to college years*

The 13" air is $799, the 11" pro is $999. (plus a keyboard) I am 100% certain that a MacBook Air would be better suited for your long term school work. (tip, if you can afford it, get 16gb or more for future proofing)

I love my new Magic Keyboard. But I do wish it was more stable on my lap. Also, the sound on my M4 is not as good as my M1. But, I usually use headphones anyway.

Thanks Jerry for the video , enjoyed it. Do you find that with the thinner and lighter design of the 13 you can use it longer in tablet mode? I had the 12.9 but had to return and switched to the 11 but I missed the real estate when docked in the keyboard…. Thanks

What about the battery on the 13 inch?
@JerrySchulze5 ай бұрын
About 10 hours, as usual.
@sloppynyuszi5 ай бұрын
How are people getting 10 hours on these things? When I use Callipeg or Procreate I get around 4 hours. This has been consistent through a few generations of iPads. The last iPad that lasted me around 10 hours might have been the original iPad Air? Or was it the iPad 2? I remember the iPad 3 being fine, but maybe that’s the rose tinted glasses speaking, as I like that tablet and weird to read people reminiscing it as being a blunder with the retune screen ruining performance or something. The 2018, M1 and now M4 tablet I get around 4 hours when I work on it. I’ve moved down to 11” for the last two iPads, but I get half of advertised time.

@@JerrySchulze there’s a KZbin video where someone took the 512gb one apart and found that is has 12gb of ram but only 8gb are being used. Also the 256gb only does prores video recording at 1080p where the 512gb and higher does pro res video at 4k.

My M1 is still great for everything I do, but that OLED screen and new keyboard might make me upgrade? 🤷♂️
@sigiligus5 ай бұрын
It’s just too expensive. I understand that the hardware is an incredible piece of engineering that is expensive to develop and make, but at the end of the day it’s just a very, very pretty iPad. I understand WHY it costs so much, given the hardware. But it’s just not worth it. Buy the 13” entry level iPad Pro and its Magic Keyboard and it costs more than an entry level MacBook Pro. What does it have over the MBP? A better screen. A better processor? On paper, but it’s an ultra thin tablet compared to a laptop with fans. Not that any software on iPadOS does sustained loads to begin with.
@HectorYague5 ай бұрын
And, when push comes to shovel, none of that matters because it is all about the limitations of the software, not the virtues of the hardware.

@@JerrySchulzethe bus. but also i’m tired of hearing this software talking point lol. that just means the product isn’t for you, no big deal
@andyH_England5 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say I like this take. The iPad Pro is not for everyone; 9 million will buy it in 2024. If the software is not for you, move on. Let those who appreciate it for what it is and understand it is a de facto tablet that can do a bit more. You probably need a PC. Just remember when MS tried a hybrid tablet/desktop, it failed so disastrously that it became irrelevant in the tablet market. I think Apple has crunched the numbers and knows that what a tiny niche vocal group wants would be a zero-sum game or worse.
@HectorYague5 ай бұрын
@@andyH_England the point is not whether the OS is for me or not. The point is that the actual user experience of an iPad Pro M4 vs M3 vs M1 is exactly the same, as it has been years that the hardware has long surpassed the capabilities of the software. There is a universal principle in tech: Hardware and Software development must progress in tandem, or else one ends up handicapping the other. There is ZERO performance benefit from using iPad OS (or any iPad App for that matter) on an iPad M4 vs a four year old iPad M1. You would not notice the difference. Four years of computational prowess gone unnoticed because the software doesnt make sure of it... If that is not unfortunate from a product development point of view, then I dont know what is. As it stands, pairing the ultra powerful M4 iPad Pro with the current version of iPad OS is like driving a Ferrari on gravel: most of its raw power goes to waste.
@andyH_England5 ай бұрын
@@HectorYague surely that is the same argument for smart phones and laptops that greater power for the majority is now overkill. So what do we do: stop improving the performance of chips? Of course not. We get the best which is the M4 and although overkill for many it will be future proofed, and for those that need the power, it is on tap. As for software, this is a tablet and the tablet apps are significantly better than Android; quality and quantity wise. As a tablet, it is clearly the best software and now definitely the best hardware. If you are after a desktop OS then you are looking in the wrong place and you should buy one of the hundreds of alternatives. I buy an iPad as a complimentary device to my laptop, as I want no compromises on either device, the best of both worlds. This is Apples philosophy, and if you cannot abide by it then don’t buy it!
