From the "hidden variable" idea for mathematical models:- If the analysis of a mathematical model for time and space is based on the "sum of histories", "path integral", or temporal superposition, depending on the introductory terminology used, then a D-brane can be considered to be a type of quantum chemistry, resulting in a general state where the bonding ratio of the brane structure is related to Euler's formula, as an identity of the superimposed wave connection, ..generating the geometry of measurable quanta from apparently smooth continuity. The Power Pi-i ratio for "e" is "imprinted or embedded" in the cyclic/path nature of time so as to define the mechanism of brane structure, ..in the linear-radial "string" of the number line spectrum. (Superimposed multiples of a mathematically constant ratio becomes the wave band combination of linear-transverse orthogonal geometry/probability) Eg if a plastic ruler represents linear graduations of an arbitrary set of ratios in the localized part of the universe, then its reciprocal relationship with the universal quantum state, is one continuous existence; a permanent, quantized, bond in time of relative timing duration/frequencies. Or "visually" equivalent to a vibrating rubber band/brane.(?) Ie, looking at the macro infinite vanishing point, from the internal micro vanishing point, one perceives an apparent transverse sight plane image of bonded points orthogonal to the line/(string-line), of sight. (All observable)(?)

I believe they go from sigma=0 to sigma=pi, it's a way of keeping track of the string orientation.
