I disagree with the cake/strawberries thing. It depends on the person and situation, but I personally don’t find it to be good advice. If I was craving cake, and ate a whole box of strawberries, I wouldn’t be satisfied. So maybe (because I’m now a little aggravated about still wanting cake) I’ll eat a granola bar. And I STILL wouldn’t feel satisfied. That cycle would eventually continue until I threw in the towel and ate the whole cake and binged. On the other hand, I could have honored by cake craving by having a little slice in the beginning, and then moved on and felt happy that I had cake, and proud that I controlled my portion. I don’t think I’m an outlier here, over restriction can lead to binging in a lot of people.

Absolutely +1.... One of the biggest diet mistake is trying to replace the foods you like... No, carrot with liquid smoke is not healthy bacon... No, celery with pepper and salt is not a replacement for crisps... No, asparagus with salt is not a replacement for fries.. Also on this note, just because something is vegan it doesnt mean its healthy. Deep fried vegetables are not healthy. Nor tofu swimming in oil and spices. Also vegan food will not make you loose weight just because its vegan. (good example is crisps, its vegan but like 4-500 kcal per 100 gram) I always suggest to my friends to keep eating what they eat now, just less... And as the volume becomes is low, they will start introducing high volume, low calorie foods (i.e. salads, vegetables, oats with berries etc) by themselves and they will be proud as they "discovered" some good "hacks". But still they can have their pizza, cake and hamburgers which is hard to give up for most people.

I'm banned from counting calories. It gives me anxiety and makes me want to eat less than the previous day. I could eat 1000 yesterday? Let's do 900 today. I was fine with 900, so that means I don't eat that much food, so let's try 800. I went down to 500 and didn't want to eat even that much, because it's such a high number and I didn't lose any weight on 600, so I'm obviously still eating too much. Yeah, I had to stop.

@@IzzysTravelDiaries Yeah it can become bad if you are obsessed with it. Dont overdo calorie counting, you dont have to weigh everything. New follower, on my own health/fitness/weight loss journey after a stroke in November of last year. It felt really good to see the tips and realize I was following a lot of them already? Finding ways to enjoy lower calorie versions of your favorite foods is such a big thing, though. I also had to find ways to make making those things easier, because I had my right side (and therefore my dominant hand) severely damaged in terms of dexterity, strength, etc. So as you can imagine, working on the stovetop, using knives, etc were not only difficult but dangerous. (Still are in some ways.) But if you aren't used to cooking, making things easier for yourself is a plus! Ask yourself what you're going to cave, want to eat all the time, etc, and find ways to make them healthier. Ex: For me, that was pizza. Size wise think the size of a Totino's party pizza (a whole is 600-700 calories). I have two of my version for dinner, each about 200 calories; they're crunchy, loaded with nutritious veggies I personally enjoy, and I am completely sated afterward. These are good tips overall -- she can do more than I can because I have health issues I have to plan around (stroke recovery so mobility issues, diabetes, hypertension, etc), but these are such a good base line! Also: I went from 365 lbs in Nov 2020 and I am down to 279 lbs so far.

The thing is, tracking macros for a while kind of trains your brain to think a certain way about what you eat and how you eat it. Yes they might not track anymore and eat intuitively, but their intuitive eating has adjusted to a mixture of years of tracking and listening to their bodies. When I started tracking, I started teaching myself in a way what the food contains that I eat, which became mind blowing. So many things I didn't know had carbs, had loads, and that also taught me how many of that is actual carbs and which are fibers etc, proteins and fats.. I knew so little about healthy fats and different types of fats, and still do, but tracking my food has helped me educate myself in that. Now if I slam meals together, my brain immediately starts analyzing how balanced it is between protein, fats and carbs etc, or if I at least have all of those in somewhere.

I've been feeling like a failure for eating a bit more than my daily (deficit) goals but holy shit, I can almost guarantee I was eating at my maintenance goals those days and thus, I'm not a failure! YAY! Going a bit over I felt like weight gain was imminent but nope, it just might take a bit longer for me and that's totally fine

When he said I eat peanut butter everyday I nodded in agreement but watching your channel definitely helped me monitor my portion size. I usually have peanut butter in one meal and nuts for a snack and that will be my fats for the day. I honestly feared certain foods in the beginning of my weight loss journey.

NEAT is a huge thing that I feel isn’t stressed as much as it should be (at least until lately). Unfortunately when I worked a desk job and owned a car I found it harder to lose weight. When I moved to a more expensive city, sold my car and switched jobs to one where I’m active and on my feet, the weight just became so much easier to shed. I think if you work a desk job it really helps to do your best to increase your activity during the day, even just walking to the stores you normally drive to or taking the stairs. The tips that our grandmas gave us actually do work.

Finally someone who actually uses Splenda..thank God there's still hope. I don't have a "goal date", but I alternate day fast and eat 2 meals on my eating days (healthy carbs, protein, veggies, fruit ) I feel great, I hit the gym every morning, and I lost 30 pounds in about 6 weeks...

Hey! I'm curious about your experience with alternate day fasting... was it difficult at first? and if so, how long did it take you to get used to it? also-have you received any medical advice on the safety as it as a woman? (I've heard varying things about how it can affect our hormones negatively.) My partner does alternate day fasting for medical reasons and I've been wanting to join him, but am worried about how it will affect my body/stress levels. So anything you have to say will probably be helpful (:
@brittanybuscay26683 жыл бұрын
@@CheyenneHayden I've been intermittent fasting for a very long time, usually 16/8 and 20/4..I've been alternate day fasting for about 4 months. So it wasn't much of a struggle for me since my body is use to fasting. I didn't get or need any medical advice because I know my body and I don't have any underlying health conditions. If your not use to fasting I would increase your fasting time every couple days and work up to alternate day fasting. A few tips, drink plenty of water, and if you feel like you need something bone broth is great. Just 1 cup. Or some pink Himalayan salt in your water for the electrolytes and it helps control any nasua or light headedness. My body feels so much better when I alternate day fast. I only do it for several months at a time, than go back to a more normal intermittent fasting schedule. Let me know if this helps.

14:22 I think that works more for women who tend to require less calories than men. Personally I began tracking my calories back in May and mostly my daily calories are all about 2300, while maintenance would be 2500. Am currently 174 pounds, down from 182, which isn't much but goal is to get to 165. The first few weeks were a bit rough for me because I loved snacking on trail mix, (700 calories a cup is insane BTW) and didn't know what I could sub food in for and would drink juices for breakfast and or dinner. Simply switching to flavor waters like vue, Perrier or La croix has helped a ton as well as Greg Doucette's ice cream recipe which is both fantastic and highly satiating. I have an app called my NetDiary which is super helpful in tracking too which also takes into account your activity level for your calorie needs.

I personally find it very annoying when people say not to go below 1200 calories. I’m 5 foot tall and my RMR is 1400 so if I really want to lose weight I could fairly healthily go under 1200. I get where they are coming from, but the rule is relative and should be a proportion of your maintenance cals.

Also another point. Be action oriented instead of result oriented. many people focus on the goal they want expecting results. But they don’t realize that the actions they make are what’s ganna get them closer to their goal.

This can work for a lot of people but what kept me from losing weight and maintaining (which I’ve maintained my ideal weight for 15 years) is the whole looking for ways to stuff myself uncontrollably and somehow staying in a calorie deficit. Keto is a diet that tells you WHAT to eat so you feel like you’re eating unlimited. Same with low fat/high carb. And a lot of other diets. For me, living every day eating a pound of veggies and looking for ways to eat two pints of ice cream did not work. Because as soon as I went to a “bad” food I would eat that way and immediately gain it back. I had to train myself SLOWLY, key word slowly, to slow down. Eat smaller bites, stop eating a little sooner, listening to when I ate enough, chewing slowly, and actually enjoy what I was eating. I also got in the habit of checking in with how how full my stomach felt to gage whether to keep eating or stop eating, while eating the food I normally ate. This gives you the control you need to maintain weight loss. To me this is key - finding control. Now when I eat something I crave I don’t go overboard because I’m not in the school of shoveling a crap ton. This was the biggest key and actually I haven’t seen this talked about yet. One detail that I know kept me overweight was no matter what it was I was eating, I was trying to fit as much as I could on my utensil, as much in my mouth, take as big of gulps of liquid as I could, and as soon as I had that bite in my mouth, I immediately concentrated on getting the next big ass bite rather than enjoying what I was eating in the moment. This makes you very efficient at consuming high volumes of food and calories. When you have these eating habits it is SO EASY to fall off track the moment you let yourself eat something you crave. Whereas if you first concentrate on slowing down, getting used to smaller bites, and checking in with your fullness level, no matter what you’re consuming, eating at a deficit is much easier. One more thing I have not seen talked about and I don’t know why, is people being told they should go from the number of calories they eat for their current weight to a dramatic dip to the calories of their ideal weight. For example someone who normally eats about 5,000 a day being told they need to suddenly eat 1,500 a day. That is a big shock to the system! Rather, people should be going from 5,000 a day to 4,500 a day for a couple weeks, then continue slowly going down from there. This is so much more sustainable and easier than the alternative, which I think sets you up for failure. Just my two cents (and then some)!

I can imagine intuitive eating isnt that great for people with disorders as BED or people who are obese and tryna lose weight. Id say find a balance , find what works for you.
