Roman's point on carving a niche is exactly how I view his channel. I watch Roman because I like the DIY engineering projects, deep dive investigations such as SEM images of transistors, or early OC explorations on new hardware. Similarly, I watch TTP because of insights from the media angle, or indepth analysis on the silicon business, or interviews with significant members of the industry. If I wanted to inform a purchasing decision, I'd be watching Paul's, GN, HUB, LTT, or many others. The reason I subscribe to der8auer and TTP is exactly because they bring something different. The same can be said about the Anandtech website. I visit there not for launch day reviews, but for indepth material. Anandtech is often infamously late on product reviews anyway, so why would I look there first? It's the unique things they do that keep me as a reader.

Thank you both, awesome interview, love you both. Found Roman a year or more ago and don't think I missed a single vid since, loved the electron microscope chip testing vids, shared with my friend that works in Intel and that's exactly what he does but he told me their tools are even more accurate and with even smaller needles, he was testing Alder lake at the time. Found you trough Tech deals and love your content, watched many of your older vids and interviews but this 1 is the best because when you speak with the "oficial" interviewees I need to sieve through the 70-90% marketing\company talk to get some real info and here it was all real talk and very interesting topics. I agree with Roman best way to grow on KZbin is be yourself and do content that you like and passionate about because consciously or subconsciously people can see if you fake it. I watch many channels, some are the usual popular youtubers that every1 watches, I watch them mostly for info and could just as easily get from some other channel but most of the channels I watch regularly and engage with are the ones with unique approaches, stiles and most importantly unique people. But that's just me and I've been told I'm a bit weird so what do I know.

I feel like yours is the kind of niece that came and has stuck with the channel since they enjoy the insight, the technical aspects, the interviews about the broader picture etc... Doesn't matter if I don't completely understand every word/concept (and i don't, but hey, the comment section is there) Also as Roman said, development/production details are so scarse, especially on this platform, and yours is one of the few outlets that patch the scarcity

I'm not entirely convinced overclocking as a 'thing' has much of a future - it feels past it's peak to me. There was a time when CPU's shipped with huge engineering overheads built in and just waiting to be exploited and with a bit of effort , and basically for free, enthusiasts could access too that overhead and really boost their experience. Nowadays cpus are so aggressively binned , so they can be stratified and priced accordingly and when the engineeering overhead is pretty minimal anyway and you have to pay more just to get an overclockable chip. The whole point seems to have gone away now , people who were into it in the past probably still are , but I'm not sure the community is expandng. Time will tell i suppose.

Hey Ian. I love your channel. I want to tell you what I enjoy from your content. I like learning things. I like being exposed to someone who knows more than I do about microchips and fab. I recently got deep into hardware, just a few years ago. before that I was purely software. I am completely fascinated by hardware now. Chip fab is amazing. I even took some courses at a university to learn the basics about chip logic design. I feel like I am a junior engineer who is learning from a senior engineer. I love being mentored by someone with more experience. I love your dedication to accuracy, like with RAM speeds (which I already knew and had some strong feelings about). I agree with everything you said on that topic. I grew up with a focus on science, and later with computer science. and I believe in clearly defining things and correcting people with false notions, even if the majority of people are ignorant of the proper definition of something. I always strive to be accurate in the things I say, and to not spread misinformation or ignorance. I think you do a great job of that, too. Also, I love many of your interview episodes. I am not the kind of person who gets starstruck by Hollywood actors, but I am truly intrigued by certain people , like Jim Keller, who is still just a human, but I feel like I have a lot in common with his philosophy on everything. He obviously doesn't see himself as a God or anything. he's very humble, but he's figured out a lot of things about life (and microarchitecture). I love that you ask interesting and relevant questions to the people you interview. I have seen some people do a great job at interviewing, but I've seen some people who don't quite get it, and they ask questions that show their lack of experience. You always seem to be on point with your questions. I'm not a follower of Derbauer, I have seen a few of his videos, but I found your interview with him to be truly fascinating. I love when people can just be real and get their egos out of the way and present their experiences, so that I can learn from them. I love fresh perspectives. Anyhow, much love and respect. Keep up the great work, and please don't dumb things down. If you do, do it on a new channel please. There are more of us brainiacs with a love of technological innovation than you think. It took me a while to find you, but once I did, I knew I found a place where I belong. You're my peeps!

So I have some issue with Der8auer as well but just opinion-wise. I still knew I had to watch the video on a slow weekend simply because it's such a rare opportunity to get an unfiltered discussion piece, even if it's an interview with two people that are so "close to the metal" or silicon, as it may be and I really enjoyed it. Perhaps the most surprising thing was that he actually reads most of the KZbin comments and my respect for him has grown. P.S.: I guess it was a bit too awkward for you to correct him at the end when he mistook your question of how der8auer is spelled with how it's pronounced. 😅

Often, I can see why people downvote a video. A 10 minute vid about a new CPU or something, I can see people liking one better than the other... but... for this, it's two enthusiasts talking about about various topics... Who is the people watching this, for an hour and 8 minutes, or at least half, and then decide to downvote... did 6 people (at the time of writing this) expect an argument over releasedates when Ian uploaded this, and wanting honestly to watch that for an hour and 8 minutes? Tl;dr: Great and interesting interview!

Not only was the Kirin 9000 the size of a dime but the ARM Mali-G78 MP24 24 core monster is rated at 2.6Tflops FP32 and runs under 12watts. That's just insane to me.

I don't accept ads from anyone I write about on AnandTech. Of course there's cross over, hard not to. But over the years I've suggested stories for AnandTech that have been rejected. YT is an outlet for them now. Plus don't forget I said AnandTech is owned by a large publisher - that company has 2700 employees and almost 1B in revenue a year. Paul's Hardware lost views because he is more interested in his daughter rather than his channel. Don't get me wrong, if he wants to do that he has all the rights, but I don't care about children and I want to see cool tech videos and he does not provide them anymore. Same thing for Kyle of BitWit. When he divorced from his wife he hopped on a downward spiral.

50:00 The difference Between the German comments and the English contemns is the difference between International audience and the only German speaking audiance. The viewers that watch or read content in in there not first language putt in general more "effort" into it, i assume they are also more open minded and have higher education compared to the average viewer that only consumes content in there first language. Also we Germans are just "verbittert"
