I've never seen an apple tree die in that manner before. (Granted, most of my experience is growing younger apple trees.) Usually, apple trees go downhill slowly. This is quick. I suspect the roots are under attack; not by old age but by either insects, nematodes, or disease. See if you can get an arbourist out to identify the problem. Apple trees can live for 2-3 hundred years when taken care of.
@frederickbierweiler80204 жыл бұрын
pruning ,ph,and nutrients can help promote more rigorous growth and might save tree you wont live to see another 100 yo apple tree in its place however plant one just in case for your people.

When my brothers and I bow hunted on state land we would scout all the red oak trees with binoculars and score them from 0 to 10, 10 being the heaviest loaded. Acorns tend to hang in clusters. If the average number of acorns touching one another was about 4, we graded it as a 4 out of 10. Then located the trees on a map with 0-10 number beside them.

Keep it simple. I was just thinking the same thing the other day. When did I go from a half dozen shells and a buck knife on my belt . To a back pack, cameras, half dozen climbers, blinds, topo maps, weather apps, 3 knives, butt outs , range finders ,and whatever else I suddenly need.

BTW Bunjie :-) You should make a pond on that property and increase the deer and other animals to attract them to your property. I have a pond on my property and I tell you it makes wonders of difference for the amount you attract. BTW I put in some perch, minnows, bass and catfish for my fishing desires.
@jasong95025 жыл бұрын
We use to wait until harvest and mow the grass near tree stands and blinds. The deer get use to many landscapes/fields changing and a month later it’s grown in enough they feel more comfortable but still highly visible.

I have an apple tree to the side of my front yard. Now I live up north. So it's not a big deal. That thing is probably 75 years old or so. And it produces almost every year. Even in a bad year it puts out something. Crazy as apple tree ever seen. And yes, it's six by itself. Nothing else around but a few blue spruce

New feature on Death by Bunjie; Everything Rich Learned from Bunjie This Week: 1. Fish in a pond with fish. 2. Hunt deer where the deer are. 3. Deer gotta eat. Deer like food. 4. Bait if you want to and if it's legal (His inner-lawyer speaking) 5. Neighors should share deer. Eat his. 5. Drive the neighbor's deer out of his corn field toward your property with your drone. 6. Donde está el agua. Busca el pez. 7. Don't play wind instruments while hunting. 8. Don't stink. Showere are too time consuming. The night before hunting sleep in a huge box of baking soda. 9. Once you start swinging, it's hard to stop. 10. When it comes to blinds, deer are stupid around apples. 11. Woods are big. Don't forget where you put your trail cameras. 12. Deer adapt and have boogers. [20:22]

Good video as always Rich! Yes I'm in complete agreement about using the KISS approach Keep it Simple Stupid! I do need to get out and put some trail cams out. And about the 100 year old apple tree, hey I'm hoping I can make it that long because America's oldest deer hunter is 105! And he took two bucks in Virginia last season

The hardest thing for me this year was to decide to hunt elsewhere than my family land that my grandfather hunted. Wolves have taken the herd down. If I want to be successful this season I have to cut my emotional/sentimental cord, and go where the deer are. Just like you said.
@Deathbybunjie5 жыл бұрын
Oh, man, I am really sorry to hear that! I can definitely understand what you are going through. Just remember that all those memories are still there. And the property is still there for other purposes, experiences, and memories, also! Make some new memories somewhere else, nothing wrong with that. I hope we can do both. I have issues going on here with family land but I must say that it is not wolves and I was surprised to hear that. Here in Pennsylvania I kind of forget that people deal with Wolves!

I think I know what's wrong with the apple tree! I believe it's SEPTORIA leaf spotting a fungal disease and when it rains a lot or the humidity is bad for the year it spreads quickly and destroys anything on the lower branches. I had the same thing do a number on my blackberry bushes this year. Hopefully this helps!

You might be right, that does make sense

Sorry, well somehow delete it the last message I sent you, or I should say, you sent back. So I just hit on the first video that popped up on the library of mine. Now I can't remember what I was going to say! Lol. Do I delete or sit here for a minute and try to recapture my thought.🤔 And sorry, I just don't do Facebook. Personal thing. Well, without the comment I'm not sure. Awesome getting older! lol. But here's one thought, I'm one of them cheaper crossbow hunters. My kids bought me a Barnett a couple years ago. Probably to get me back into it. It was your time, not that many years ago, that I was into bow and gun. Did everything myself, as far as flutching, arrow weight, paper tune, all that good s***. People would bring me their stuff to do. Guess you could even say I was a semi-Pro bow hunter. But lifes circumstances made me leave the situation for a while. Thankfully my kids brought me back. I don't see anything wrong with the Med range crossbows. At least the ones I've experimented with. Yes, they don't have all the bells and whistles. And I myself was thinking about getting a bigger, faster, newer, shinier crossbow. Until last week, I mistakenly fired the crossbow before I was ready, and it went through a 2x10. At 30 yards. Not all the way through, but, the tip head several inches showing through. That's a lot of power. I think I'm good. And I'm pretty sure that's what all these other people shooting mid to low range crossbows feel. Took a long time to get what I want it to say. Hope you don't hold it against me. Lol. Thanks Rich

I'm in the Texas Master Naturalist program and in the forest year-round. Biggest mistake I see hunters make every year is they wait one or two weeks before hunting season to go scouting. No need to invest in a lot of stuff, but invest time year-round, especially if you hunt public lands. Timber harvest, prescribed burns, and other management activities can change an area, quite drastically, in a year. In National Forest of Texas, you can find wildlife ponds and water can be just as valuable as food. Heat index today is 100 degrees
@Deathbybunjie5 жыл бұрын
Oh, man, yeah, I bet water is attractive down there! Another thing we deal with here is flooding, it can change the lay of the land pretty good. The next scouting video that I am doing discusses beavers too. I agree, you have to get in there and see what has changed!

Find a location with a pond and no other water around for miles because deer need water daily. Bait the area also and you will get your deer.
