My “boyfriend” does that a lot. (I don’t consider him anything anymore) I just need money to leave. He tell me a lot when he’s off not to go to work and that he’ll pay for my day but he never does. He’s said it so often that it enrages me when he offers again. Cause I know he’ll never come through. A few days ago he offered to pay a class for me at the community college. Hard to believe. My ex-boyfriend, who was a calm man and never raised his voice or called me out my name, told me that he was not a fan of me posting selfies on my social media because it could cause guys to be in my DMs. My backside was never shown etc. Nobody was in my DMs and if they were I wouldn't respond. I was always crying n apologizing. He would say its your fault im.angry. u made me go n do drugs. I brought his anger. He wanted to kill me n told me so. He was abusive. In n out of my life 9yrs. He would silent treatment me if i didnt act the way he wanted. Said i deserved to be abused , yelled at n disrespected. Several times he yelled in my face, spit at me , cursed me, had a closed fist n said he would knock my teeth put n bash my skull in. He said he fantasized about choking me to watch the life leave my body. Said he thought about killing me stuffing me body in a duffle bag, cut up , going upstate n burying my body. He said no body no crime. He is a psychopath.

It's difficult to leave in this situation, but not impossible. My mother was with my very controlling and abusive bio father for almost 16 years and had me and four siblings to contend with as well. We gave up everything to run away. Leaving with nothing but the clothes on our backs, a few photo albums, and what money my mother could get her hands on. We met my grandparents two states over, and they helped us go the rest of the way to the state they lived in halfway across the country. We had to live with them for a while and were starting all over, but my mom worked as much as she could until she could afford to get us our own place and eventually worked her way to a much better paying job with good benefits. (It did help that her father was a secretary treasurer for the union back then. ) My point is look for people who are willing to help, whether it's friends, family, or resources made available in your local area ( where we are there are local non-profits who help women and children in your exact situation); just start doing your research. This situation isn't just bad for you. It's bad for your children as well. I hope you're okay and if you haven't found a way out already that you do soon, before it's too late.

If he says he wants to control you it is a very bad sign. It means he views you as a posession or object, not an equal person. If you confront him with this, he will spin it to look innocent. A secure person won't feel they need to control. Where there is control there isnt trust or love, but insecurity and likely in the future punishment = abuse.
