Export fail. Solution: delete all render/generated files, render again and then export again.

I lost half a day of editing, with the client sitting next to me. Even backups had been corrupt. This is now 3 years ago and I never had a similar issue since and before. Ususally the backups are very reliable. Note: I have even less issues since using Postlab. I don't know why, but I guess they clean the libraries on a regular basis.

I’ve had the occasional issue where a single timeline in a large project totally goes wonky. The only fix I have found was to recover from a prior time when that timeline doesn’t crash. Also a killer third party fix is the digital rebellion tools. Their housekeeper function is incredible. You have to pay for the software but it’s awesome.

If a single timeline goes "wonky" you can try to copy the edit into a new timeline. Same goes with Events, just new Event and copy over, delete old Event.

good tips, thanks! I know the second my skimming doesn't skim any longer that things are getting finkcky and prob won't save project accurately. it's an odd thing, but a great indicator for when things are getting wonky. am i the only one that had this rando issue?

it does seem better with Sonoma for sure. did just have a weird occurance though, where it didn't save about 2hr of edits, but app didn't crash or anything. little bummed about that, for it hasn't happened in a while. regardless, keep up the good work m8, still my fav fcpx channel! @@matthewTobrien

I’ve been working in the same library in FCP for about a year now, and about a week ago it started to show a popup saying a single project is damaged. But nothing in that project seems to be affected. I’ve tried copy pasting everything in that project to another in a new Library, and it doesn’t seem to affect that library. Since then it’s been exported and it seemed completely fine. Have you ever experienced this issue?

I am on FCPX 10.6.5 and it has just been so good I have not even thought about upgrading to a newer version just for some of the reason you mentioned. All my plugins and everything just works fine. But I might be tempted to update to 10.7 or maybe wait for 10.7.1 and I appreciate your video on how to save my current version before upgrading to a newer version. On a side note, I have recently been getting when I make a Vertical timeline FCPX automatically picks NTSC REC 601 many times? It is random and I do not quite understand why? Is there a reason it would highlight that option when making a new timeline? Usually when I make a Vertical timeline. I always click on Standard 709 but wondering if you know why it may do that and what is Rec 601? Never even heard of it... Thanks

External devices can indeed cause issues when there is a handshake, or any communications between your main system and a device that can cause an interruption in any process.

for the past week or 2 or so, since I updated to final cut 10.6.10, I have been issues exporting my videos.. is there any ways to work around this or fix this?

That's incredibly frustrating! First thought: what version of macOS are you running? Second: check out this support article from Apple all about troubleshooting issues when sharing a video: support.apple.com/en-us/HT207791#:~:text=Before%20attempting%20to%20share%20again,size%20in%20the%20Share%20window. This link may not solve your issue, but at least it's something new to try in case it does...

The reason that a restart solves a lot of issues has to do with how the mac works, how all computers work... When you start the mac it loads the OS into it's memory, the ram, and that is where all the works is done... The hard drive is storage only... All the work is done by the processor using the ram... The processor writes into and out of the Ram continuously... and errors creep in... a bit here a bite there, preferences are rewritten constantly, and referred to constantly, and errors happen there too... These little errors aren't much all by themselves but over time they add up and interact with themselves... If your mac is having a lot of weird unexplained errors and doing funny things... RESTART.
