I can see Apple using AI in color grading and rather than swimming through the seemingly millions of Creative LUTs you will just import stills from any number of movies and it matches the look (ideally creating a LUT you can save after the fact). They may well use AI for the kind of grouping you do in Resolve. "Put this correction on all daytime shots from Camera X." No need to manually group to add a common correction or grade. Apple's goal isn't to match Resolve but to create a new more intuitive way to get similar results.

I will finally turn on the feature to scan the footage on import, it'll probably be slow though. I am optimisticlly hopeful but would not be surprised if they drag their feet and sandbag adding any of these features to FCP. We've been here before. Great video as always Matthew! At the end 15:15 did you say, "Final Cut Bro will be scrapped" does Dylan know!?

Great video, and you answered all the questions I have been impatiently waiting for with an amazing turnaround time and a lovely edit job at that. I would say that along with the transcript of an interview, the ability to do karaoke-like subtitles à la Captionator (with no malice intended to the fine work of Brian Murray here) that could accurately analyze the sound movement down to the syllable level, now that would be right at the top of my wish list and would save me lots and lots of time (even though I don't analyze sound movement down to the syllable level).

This rapid growth relies on us all having A, end users owning Spatial video goggles and B clients that ask for spatial video for that market. Currently, the amount of work for video creators (in the UK) seems reduced in the mainstream and cost of living high. Neither of these factors bode well for a high priced, cutting edge endeavour. Good luck to Apple. Final Cut Pro needs some text based editing and instant subtitles before all this IMHO. Appreciate the video and insight Matt. Cheers, Adam

SOOOO many possibilities (perhaps not limited to AI?) -Voice Commands: Instead of shortcut keys or using mouse/finger to select input type etc. Imagine selecting a clip on timeline, then just telling Siri to Lift, replace, insert, cut and snap, etc. Or, no longer needing to manually adjust volumes, which sometimes can be finicky with a trackpad mouse or finger, and instead just saying "raise volume on track 3 by 1 and play a 3 second loop, starting from cursor. -More powerful and simplified processes and review: Imagine telling FCP to "add a gaussian blur to the start of the selected clip, and preview. Then do the same with a wipe. Let me see a 30 second loop of both versions, one after another: In future versions "play both clips side by side" ... -Bring the cleanup features over to FCP: Removal of objects would be somewhat obvious. We have seen how Apple has been implementing audio features like dialogue enhancement, voice isolation etc. Use these features and Similar in FCP. -Templates and automations: Titles, sequences, etc can be easily called up and applied. Imagine starting a certain type of project and being able to have the titles, basic structure/timing, effects that may need to be duplicated, automatically come up upon selecting a template. Then from there you can replace and tweak within the framework. So everything's from the timing, effects, titles, transitions levels are all part of the template and now all you have to do is replace the content within. Imagine being able to just tell Siri to save the framework as a template, or ask Siri to recall a clip/pic/effect/etc from project ABC

I wonder if the upcoming Final Cut Camera for iPhone will use two iPhone lenses to match the new Blackmagic Camera with two lenses. Perhaps moving files as we saw it is Apple simplified answer to cloud transfers. Apple may well have been slow to add AI to FCP because their use of AI in the OS will be the real opening of the door into AI in FCP. Apple isn't always to first but they focus on the entire ecosystem and ease of integration. FCPs search with AI may become the most flexible for any NLE in the industry and will be a killer feature for long-form documentary editors. I agree with your analysis and I think big things are coming. BTW years back when FCPX was released they mentioned a "10-year plan." It''s a bit longer than 10 years but I think we're now seeing the leading edge of that plan for FCP 11.

I’ve long thought Apple would be the company to be able to identify with AI the moment a slate claps, but has no audio n the guide track and can still sync with the pro recorded audio…for those times when someone forgot to record the sound d guide track for syncing or the production has no locked timecode between camera and sound. This would be incredibly helpful rather than setting markers to sync manually.

Search functions and Siri voice commands are unnecessary fluff as far as I’m concerned. It makes me sooo confused that the ai base color correction and slow mo coming to 10.8 aren’t the things most discussed. Maybe it’s not useful for KZbin videos or the countless Final Cut feature films(lol). Seriously though…without taking a poll…I can only guess that most FC usage is commercial/lifestyle videographers. Give me something like topaz ai inside FCP and I’m golden. I realize that my needs are no more important than others but visual AI tools are way more important than being able to ask Siri where I left my keys. I’d rather the end product LOOK better than save a couple hours working on a lesser quality product. Monotone rant over….😂.
