I already commented in your other video but thought I’d elaborate more here. I originally saw a picture of these sweatshirts on Reddit and wanted on so bad but the eBay prices were super high. After a few months I finally found a purple one for $80 which I thought was very reasonable so I bought it. It was actually an online storefront for a thrift store. 2 weeks later and I was getting no updates on the usps tracking. I contacted the seller who contacted usps who told them that they had lost the package. I was refunded but was absolutely gutted that I had played a part in the disappearance of this piece of history. Then, about four months later, I went to my PO Box and saw a package. I immediately knew what it was. Sure enough, I guess USPS had found it and it eventually got to me. I’m a little guilty that I technically got the sweatshirt for free in the end but as a broke college student I didn’t feel that bad 😂

Ahah, In the end that is one awesome deal 👌👌
@matthewTobrienКүн бұрын
Wow! What a great ending! And I’ve been looking at additional colors of the same sweatshirt on eBay and love that they’re valuable but certainly can’t justify paying $150+ for one. I’n the end I think I probably paid around $60 - $75 for this one with everything I bought and traded in. I’ll keep it forever!

I'm sorry, but Final Cut Pro has been the most frustrating software I've ever used. One major issue is that you can't copy and paste color correction settings without disrupting the original color values of a clip. For instance, if a clip has a saturation value of 10 and you paste a saturation setting from another clip with a value of 5, you'd expect the result to be 5. But instead, the values add together, resulting in a saturation of 15. This additive behavior makes it incredibly difficult to achieve consistent color correction across clips.

Listened to the first part of this stream also now, appreciate your thoughts. However, with the latest acquisition Apple got not only one but two stand alone apps. Pixelmator Pro itself and Photomator, which mimic the Photoshop/Lightroom distinction. Thus it is not Pixelmator Pro that should become like Aperture but Photomator. As for the Apple Photos it could never contain something like Pixelmator Pro, which is really more like a graphic design tool.
@matthewTobrien2 күн бұрын
Thanks for clarifying. You can see how much I know about Pixelmator/Photomator. While the details might be wrong I think the interpretation of what’s behind the move is accurate. PetaPixel was saying it was also a bit of payback for Adobe going hard into the Windows market after Apple allegedly subsetted Aperture to cede the photo editing/cataloguing market to Adobe. Very interesting.

I was considering switching to DaVinci Resolve, but the release of FCP 11 has made me rethink. Although Apple’s updates for FCP have been slow, this new version is a big leap forward and keeps FCP relevant for now. However, if the gap between FCP and DaVinci Resolve continues to grow, I might eventually switch.
@TommyGP723 күн бұрын
You're video is spot on. To be honest, I've been considering switching to DaVinci Resolve or Premier Pro for a long time. This update looks great, but there are much more things needed to be done with FCPX in order to fit it to the world of 2024. On example: What about a proper support to QNAP network servers?
@JamesZhan4 күн бұрын
I really love that this video is not about the new features, but more about how an avid FCP user feel about the release of FCP11. I pretty much feel exactly the same way. Excited, but just…auto transcribing but only as captions??? It's like 90% there and they just won't let us have it all. Text-based editing?? These aren't even luxury requests at this point, but more like fundamentals of a modern NLE. At the same time, I really, really appreciate that FCP remains clean, fast and easy to use. DVR can have all the features in the world but just looking at it makes me feel like a technician, not a creative. Just way too much stuff that only 1% of the professionals need-and I'm considering anyone who makes money doing video production as pros, as per Webster's dictionary, not just people working in post houses. Premiere is just so clunky, more and more so now with all the new AI stuff. The software itself is so buggy, and it's just a pain in the butt to use. MOGRTs also slow down playback so much that it's no competition to the Motion Templates ecosystem of FCP+Motion. At the end of the day, editing in FCP is just so fluid and so *fun*. Can't say the same with Premiere and DVR. So I think there needs to be a balance there.

At 31:55 you were talking about wanting to be able to search for objects and stuff in the Browser, you can actually do that now with the newly released app that Chris Hocking worked on, Jumper! Have you checked that out?

@evi1ways4 күн бұрын
That FCP studio line cuts. Some of us are old enough to remember the morning of waking up to FCPX. Slow walking is the Apple approach now. (AI for example) Apple seems content to let potential users find applications that do all of the things (or all of the things they need) before Apple itself implements those things into its own applications. This was awesome in 2001-2010. Besides the fact that there wasn't a lot of affordable NLEs, FCP Studio was a wonderful set of tools. I remember feeling like a rebel with a new software that was changing the industry. The market now doesn't have 10% of the loyalty they did before. They go to where the features are. Now some goodwill has been brokered but Apple is going to where the puck is. Gretzky wouldn't approve. As someone who uses different NLEs for different things (FCP, CapCut, Resolve) If I were forced to drop one of these for use case, it would be FCP as of now. There are just not enough useful/unique features to set it apart. Hopefully they don't take the 5 years to try to gain paraity because I can guarantee, That isn't where the others will be 5 years on. Cheers on the video as always!

I may be wrong, but in my opinion, there is only one reason why it is version 11 and no 10.9: new number "politics" from Apple. macOS was OSX 10.x during years. They removed the X and a few version later the started to use "full" numbers (I don't know the exact word in English): Catalina was 10.15 and then they moved to Big Sur witch was macOS v11. FCP was FCPX until version 10.5 and now we have moved to version 11 without a real change like the one we saw between FCP 7 and FCPX. In my opinion: - We will start to see anual updates with 2 or 3 cool new features and a bunch of other simple features. - Updates during the year with new features sometimes and improvements to certain new tools: the tracker integrated in version 10.6 was improved in version 10.6.4. I think the same will happen with auto-captions, for example: we will see improvements at some point before FCP 12 is released. - No hope for Motion: it will remain as a tool which will only be updated when FCP needs it. - No hope for Apple promoting or investing more than what they do now except if it helps (a lot), to sell hardware. They are not interested in the high end market: Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve and other apps already help to sell high-end Macs which is wat they want. - Absolutely no hope toward an hypothetical FCP Studio. I think that we can see a positive acceleration in the development of FCP after years of stagnation: - Version 10.5 was a joke and it came out many years after version 10.4 and the only "new" feature was support for Apple Silicon. - Version 10.6 came after less than a year with very few new features: tracking, cinematic mode editing and neon filter. There were a couple .6 updates that had a couple new features. - Version 10.7 came 2 years after version 10.6. - Version 10.8 was released 6 months after 10.7. - Finally version 11 has been released less than 6 months after version 10.7

But still considering, why fcp is better than capcut?
@benh81994 күн бұрын
Simple economics: since they aren't charging much for it, they aren't allocating that many developer resources to it = slow updates, lack of features, minimal marketing, etc. I hate to say it, but maybe the non-subscription price is their achilles heel
@hartmanscott4 күн бұрын
I'm very excited for this new update. But I'm also disappointed that full transcription and text-based editing is still not included. It just seems so long overdue at this point. It's weird to me that we can auto-transcribe to create captions, but NOT to just transcribe an interview. Fortunately, I've implemented Builder NLE to fill this gap. And it works really well (highly recommend), but it just seems odd to me that FCP can't just do it on its own. Great video!

People shouldn’t fear anything becoming subscription based if they didn’t go and buy into it, this argument comes up everywhere. Unfortunately someone will pay for it and while there’s a market, subscription will exist. We can stop it but like anything, it takes a willingness to stop the habit. Apple used to sell itself when it did things no other device could, back in the early days if you wanted to do desktop publishing and graphics, you bought an Apple, the mouse and windows environment made it stand out. Once pc caught up and had sound cards and a similar mice environment, the divide narrowed, now you can do anything on any of these platforms. Subscription keeps the money flowing in but for Apple, their incentive should be to help sell their hardware by having programs that stand out over the others. Whether they are going down this route, we’ll have to wait and see. I use davinci myself on pc but I’m buying a Mac mini and also have purchased FC Pro because I liked what I saw in the effects area, the newly added magnetic mask is a bonus. However davinci has a great magic mask in it and they don’t call it ai, really it’s just good code. This insistence that ai front the name of anything that has some ability is getting old. Ai is the little black dress and now everyone’s wearing one. I intend to install davinci on my Mac as I use that the most but even davinci doesn’t do everything. I think FC Pro’s market is still aimed at people not wanting to tinker too much, and they are probably being extra careful to keep it user friendly as that’s always been their mantra. A lot of people dislike davinci’s fusion page, powerful as it is, and I think FCP will maintain a user base for that reason. Again, if people don’t buy into subscriptions, they wouldn’t be a thing. The companies will only do what they can get away with.
